Involvement has included participation in monthly RTI leadership team meetings and monthly grade level team meetings. Cotati-Rohnert Park Unified School District June, 2010 Presentation to 40 special and general education teachers about the research foundations and implementation implications of the Response to Intervention model. The objective of the presentation was to help teachers understand the model and the ways in which it can help boost achievement of struggling learners. Learning Disabilities: Research & Practice 2009-present LD:RP is a peer-reviewed journal, well regarded in the field of special education. I serve as a member of the editorial review board. Remedial and Special Education RASE is a highly selective special education journal. After an article I co-authored was published in this journal, I was invited to serve as an ad-hoc reviewer of a few manuscripts in my field of study. El Cajon Unified School District August, 2007 Presentation to general and special educators about how to use curriculum based measurement (DIBELS) to inform reading instruction. Talking Fingers Inc. June/July 2007 Collaborated with Talking Fingers Inc. to develop the research design for a Small Business Innovative Research Grant through the National Institute of Child Health and Development (NICHD). I designed the sampling plan, assessment procedures and 6
7 statistical plan for the project, which will involve implementing a reading intervention program for students at-risk for reading problems. Mendocino County Office of Education April, 2007 Presentation on behalf of North Coast Beginning Teachers Program to new special education teachers, their support providers and paraprofessionals about behavior management and academic engaged time. The objective of the presentation was to increase collaboration among teachers and paraprofessionals by giving them a common language to use to frame their ideals and teaching. The Special Edge 2005/06 I served as a content consultant to The Special Edge, a publication funded by the California Department of Education, Special Education Division and created at Sonoma State University s CalSTAT Project. The Special Edge is offered free to teachers, parents and education professionals in the state of California and has a circulation of approximately 40,000. Texas Reading First 2006 Two days of presentation, one of administration and scoring of DIBELS and a second of how to use curriculum based measurement and other assessments to group students for reading instruction, monitor their progress, and improve their reading ability. Calaveras County Office of Education 2006 Presentation to special educators and school psychologists about the use of curriculum based measurement for progress monitoring. Shasta County Office of Education 2005/06 Presentation to general and special educators about how to use curriculum based measurement (DIBELS) to inform reading instruction. Also, work with small groups of teachers to assist them with analyzing their DIBELS data to help plan better reading lessons for children at-risk for reading failure. Lennox School District 2005 Two day presentation to special educators at one middle school about how to collect and plot data from curriculum based measurement in reading and mathematics. Implications for using informal assessment of students for making decisions about academic interventions were discussed. Washington Department of Education 2004/05 Presentation to general and special educators about how to use curriculum based measurement (DIBELS) to inform reading instruction. Funded by Reading First grant and by the Office of the Superintendent of Public Education of Washington. Project GEAR UP 2003/04 Presentation to tutors from an after-school program about how to manage the behavior of middle school age children at risk for academic failure. 7
