2 Mission of the program This program is designed to support the visually impaired preschool children and their parents by creating an environment with programming series at public library where they can learn skills and knowledge from specialists, exchange ideas with peers and have fun together.

6 Program: 1) Introduction to visual impairment Target audience: Parents & Caregivers Program description: Short lectures by medical and clinical experts and specialists that introduce knowledge about the eye conditions, possible medical/surgical interventions, opportunities of treat at local/national institutions. Supplies: Handout of lectures; related books for checking out; contact information of institutions.

7 Program: 2) Introduction to adaptive devices Target audience: Parents, caregivers & children Program description: Display and trial use of different devices. Parents and kids can try various devices, asking questions and consult specialists for devices choosing, parents can also share their own experiences with peers. Supplies: pamphlets of devices; introduction books about adaptive devices for checking out

8 Program: 3) Learning development for children Target audience: Parents, caregivers & children Program description: Invite teachers of students with visual impairments to the learning commons center for providing proper skills and techniques for parents about how to teach kids to learn by touching, hearing, and usage of lights, multimedia devices. Supplies: Written instructions; Related multimedia resources in library; Books for checking out.

9 Program: 4) Braille learning for beginners Target audience: Parents, caregivers & children Program description: Invite teachers of students with visual impairments for instructing how to train children fine movements of two hands, coach parents and caregivers for teaching Braille, play games together. Supplies: Handout for techniques; Introduction books of Braille learning for checking out; Braille toys.

10 Program: 5) Tea-time at the Learning Commons Center Target audience: parents, caregivers & children Program description: Invite psychologists, social workers that work with the blind and visually impaired people to the Tea time to provide consulting, strategies for reducing pressure, and batter ways for communicating with children Supplies: Snakes; Handout about tips for relaxing and communication; Information about counselors.

11 Program: 6) Family storytime Target audience: Parents, caregivers, children and anybody who is interested in this area. Program description: sharing stories, songs and doing activities together for building early literacy skills with fun for the whole family. Supplies: Story books for checking out; Multimedia materials and toys.
