We are very proud to have been recently designated a National Teaching School. We are seeking to appoint a Social Inclusion and Child Protection Officer who will report directly to the Assistant Headteacher, Support for Successful Inclusion, with effect from September Key duties will include:- To be the School s Designated Child Protection Liaison Officer and point of contact for Child Protection issues. To work with Heads of School / tutors regarding support and strategies for at risk students making sure that all relevant members of staff are kept informed. To work with pupils who have child protection issues, are deemed to be children in need or with pupils that meet the criteria for either group Co-ordinate the support available from outside agencies producing documentation for staff to refer to when working with vulnerable pupils A full induction programme is provided for all new staff, and a commitment to continued professional development. 2 Social Inclusion and Child Protection Officer Job description Reports to: Assistant Headteacher, Support for Successful Inclusion Responsible for: Supporting Vulnerable and At Risk Pupils Important Links: Leadership Team Teachers & Support Staff Inclusion Team Learning Development Department Students, Families and all relevant outside agencies (ensuring appropriate responses to facilitate inclusion of students). Job Purpose: To assist the School with direct student support Overall Aim: To ensure students at Esher High School receive the best possible support to enable learning to take place, and achievements to be made in a safe and caring environment. Key Duties: To be the School s Designated Child Protection Liaison Officer and point of contact for Child Protection issues. To organise and run training for school staff on child protection issues. To work with Heads of School / tutors regarding support and strategies for at risk students. To make sure that all relevant members of staff are kept informed. To work with pupils who have child protection issues, are deemed to be children in need or with pupils that meet the criteria for either group. To co-ordinate contact and communication between school and social services for children at risk. To liaise with outside agencies (Social Services, Police, PCT) and home for children who are at risk and / or require additional support. At risk means pupils on a Child in Need plan, current child protection case or pupils who we feel meet the criteria. Co-ordinate the support available from outside agencies producing documentation for staff to refer to when working with vulnerable pupils Organise Child in Need and Multi Agency meetings. Produce CAF forms for pupils and families in need. To be the lead member of staff for Pastoral Support Programmes, managed moves and dual registered students. Tracking pupil progress and putting in place appropriate support to help these pupils succeed. To liaise with the Optional Curriculum Manager and other staff to help with planning as necessary (work experience, reduced timetables, college placements) to support individual students. To set up Support Programmes as required; to support student, staff and families. To support students who are vulnerable as identified by the Inclusion Team and SLT. To support and intervene with students who are at risk of Permanent Exclusion.

3 To oversee collation of documentation for permanent and fixed term exclusions for Governors Disciplinary meetings. To sit in on re-admission meetings following a fixed term exclusion, completing contents of re-admission contracts and tracking pupil progress in meeting targets set. To liaise with the Assistant Headteacher (Inclusion) / SENCO and Head of Lower School to ensure information relating to pupils deemed to be children in need or who have child protection plans are passed from feeder schools on to Esher High School. To be a member of the school Support Staff Management Strategy Group (middle management). Report on the progress of pupils deemed to be children in need or child protection cases data to the Senior Leadership Team as part of the Inclusion Team on a termly basis. To be the link person for behaviour issues on school transport. To interpret and evaluate good practices with regard to social inclusion and child protection, sharing these with other schools. Produce and update a list of vulnerable pupils being supported. To liaise with and allocate pupils to the Home School Link Worker Hold weekly meetings with the pastoral support co-ordinators, providing, support and guidance in matters relating to pupil welfare To carry out all such other duties as the Assistant Headteacher, Support for Successful Inclusion, may reasonably request.

4 Social Inclusion and Child Protection Officer Person Specification Qualifications / Training Essential GCSE / O level qualifications or equivalent including English and Mathematics Experience Experience of working with and supporting vulnerable students Awareness of relevant legislation Ability / Skills High levels of administrative and organisational skills Ability to consult, reflect, analyse, persuade, negotiate and influence to establish most effective and logical course of action Ability to work co-operatively and proactively with colleagues To take the school lead on individual child protection cases and where students are deemed children in need or vulnerable Ability to work effectively with students to support teaching and learning in a professional manner Good oral and written communication, problem solving and liaison skills Ability to prioritise and manage time with evidence of meeting deadlines and achieving objectives Evidence of competent IT skills Personal Qualities Enjoy working within a team and have the ability to work proactively with a wide range of personalities Self motivated Determined High level of initiative Sense of humour Sound judgement Calm under pressure Personable and approachable Professional in appearance, manner and attitude Desirable Degree or other related qualification Evidence of Continuing Professional Development relevant to the post Experience in child protection issues, ideally in education or the public services Knowledge of relevant legislation Have a sense of vision to provide forward looking advice and guidance with regards to the school s approach to child protection and inclusion issues across the whole school Enjoyment of working within an educational environment Enjoy varied work & fast paced environment

Esher High is an mixed Voluntary Controlled School. We currently have approximately 1050 students and following discussions with the Local Authority will be increasing from a seven form entry to an eight form entry school by We are a very popular school and this is reflected in the fact that we are significantly oversubscribed. The 2011 examination results were record breaking with the best ever percentage of students gaining 5+A*-C including English and Maths at 60% also saw the highest number of students gaining 3+ A*/A grades. Our contextual value added score places us within the top 25% of schools nationally. The results show that there has been significant and sustained improvement over the last six years. In September 2011, Esher High was delighted to be designated a National Teaching School. The school was one of only 100 schools in England to be granted this status. We aim to further raise standards in teaching and learning by providing high quality training and development through a network of strategic partners, bringing real benefits to all students. We pride ourselves on achieving success. We have Specialist College status in the Performing Arts and gained HPSS in September As a result, our second specialism is as a Leadership Partner School and a Lead School for Gifted and Talented students. This reflects an ambitious and forward thinking school. We hold the Gold Arts Mark and the Investors in People award. We have a stated goal of being the best non-selective school in Surrey and have made major strides in fulfilling that ambition. The Ofsted inspection, in November 2009, judged us as Outstanding.
