The curse seeks t imprve the student's ability t understand serius and cmplex prse and t imprve the student's ability t write an expsitin that is thughtful and clear, including the prductin f a well-dcumented research paper. Class time may be spent listening t brief lectures, taking ntes, reading, thinking, writing, dialguing, and cllabrating n grup tasks. Out f Class Assignments: The Department f Educatin plicy states that ne (1) credit hur is the amunt f student wrk that reasnably apprximates nt less than ne hur f class time and tw (2) hurs f ut-f-class time per week ver the span f a semester. WASC has adpted a similar requirement. Since this is a 4 unit curse taught ver a six-week perid, yu shuld anticipate spending hurs each week utside class n yur reading, writing, and ther assignments.
