1 Job Advert Speech and Language Therapist (Primary) Blossom House is an Ofsted-rated Outstanding specialist school for children aged 3-19 years of age with speech, language and communication difficulties. Although many of the children have some associated difficulties such as fine motor problems or poor organisational skills, they are all within the average range of cognitive abilities. We have an exciting opportunity for a fully qualified Speech and Language Therapist to join our Therapy Team, supporting children who have complex speech, language and communication difficulties. The role involves providing an integrated Speech Language Therapy (SLT) service to children within our school, focusing on attention, expressive and receptive language skills, and social communication. You will be required to jointly plan and deliver a curriculum alongside teaching and other therapy staff creating an environment with a class-based and integrated SLT approach. Excellent English skills (clear written and spoken English) along with good reading, writing and numeracy skills. The ability to build good working relationships with children, teachers, parents and carers. Experience working within a school setting desirable. Experience of working with children with Special Education Needs (SEN), particularly children with Speech, Language and Communication Needs and Social Communication Difficulties. Page 1 of 6

3 Responsibilities and Duties To be committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children To provide a Speech and Language Therapy service to the school, focusing on attention, expressive and receptive language skills, and social communication To work in the Primary provision, with possible opportunities to work across other Key Stages To write, implement and evaluate half termly plans for group speech and language therapy To write, implement and evaluate measurable targets for group speech and language sessions To record case notes for all children To write, review and implement Individual Therapy Treatment Programmes for prioritised children To write termly Individual Education Plans for each child in his/her group To assess all children seen for Speech and Language Therapy and prospective pupils To write comprehensive reports for the purposes of Annual Review and Initial assessment reports for new pupils To develop contacts and liaise with the Multi-Disciplinary Team and outside agencies as appropriate, providing professional advice and feedback To develop and liaise with and support Learning Support Assistants To visit other placements, as necessary and support transitions to and from the setting To manage behaviour according to the school Behaviour Policy To attend staff meetings as required To adhere to the Code of Conduct for Speech and Language Therapists To attend INSET and ensure Continuing Professional Development To deliver INSET training To liaise with parents as required under the guidance of the Principal To be fully aware of all applicable Blossom House School Policies To provide an environment for the children that enables them to realize their potential and maximise their academic, social, physical and emotional development To be flexible and carry out any such other duties as may be reasonably required and directed by the Principal To be aware of and implement Health and Safety Regulations, including Risk Assessment, by assessing the environment in which therapy takes place on an on-going basis Page 3 of 6
4 Person Specification Qualifications Degree in Speech and Language Therapy and the Royal College of Speech/Language Therapists Licence to Practice Registered member of HCPC and RCSLT Knowledge & Understanding Disordered language and speech development and social communication difficulties / ASD within the educational setting Code of Practice Therapeutic intervention for children with complex social communication difficulties and ASD, working with both individuals and groups. The workings of a multidisciplinary team. Knowledge and skills of appropriate interventions i.e. shape coding, colourful semantics, SCERTS, attention autism approaches, AAC etc. Experience of working with children with challenging behaviour An understanding of health and safety and confidentiality Skills Clear written and spoken English Good numeracy and literacy skills Diplomacy and Flexibility Ability to carry out formal and informal assessments Page 4 of 6
5 Experience of providing training to parents and other professionals Good Organisational Skills Initiative Ability to deal with stressful situations Willingness to become involved in all aspects of school life, e.g. break times, school productions, parents evenings.
