3 Test Security All state assessment instruments as defined under TEC and are considered secure, and the contents of these tests, including student information used or obtained in their administration, are confidential October October TAKS Training 3

4 Test Security Test security involves accounting for all secure materials and confidential student information before, during, and after each test administration. Confidentiality involves protecting the contents of all test booklets, online assessments, and completed answer documents. October October TAKS Training 4

5 Penalties Penalties for Prohibited Conduct placement of restrictions on the issuance, renewal, or holding of a Texas educator certificate, either indefinitely or for a set term; issuance of an inscribed or non-inscribed reprimand; suspension of a Texas educator certificate for a set term; or revocation or cancellation of a Texas educator certificate without opportunity for reapplication for a set term or permanently. Release or disclosure of confidential test content could result in criminal prosecution. State Board for Educator Certification may take any of the above actions based on satisfactory evidence that an educator has failed to cooperate with TEA in an investigation. 12 Proper Test Procedures A Test Administrator (TA) who has been trained in test administration procedures must be present in the testing room at all times during the test and have your oath on you. October October TAKS Training 12

13 Proper Test Procedures Please make sure that your testing materials are stored properly in a locked storage place. Never leave your materials unattended. You are not allowed to copy any secure materials without authorization. October October TAKS Training 13

15 Proper Test Procedures, cont d.: Students are not allowed to use scratch paper. Students may make notes or work problems in their test booklets. All answers must be marked on an answer document with a No. 2 pencil. TA s may not require students to first mark their answers in the test booklet and then transfer them to the answer document. Students may be allowed to use highlighters and colored pencils in the test booklet to emphasize important information. October October TAKS Training 15

16 Proper Test Procedures, cont d.: Students must remain seated during testing. No talking while test booklets are open. TAKS tests are untimed. Each student must be allowed to work at his or her individual speed. October October TAKS Training 16

17 Proper Test Procedures, cont d.: Only students are allowed to erase their stray marks or darken answer-choice circles, and only during the scheduled test session. Students are not allowed to return to a subject-area test attempted on a previous test day or to work on a subject-area test that has not yet been administered. 19 Active Monitoring Active monitoring means that test administrators are actively engaged while students are working on the test, moving about the room so they can be more aware of students actions. October October TAKS Training 19

26 Security Test Security All security measures outlined in this manual Test administrators must be aware that they are viewing secure content and that responding to test items, recording the information they see, or discussing the content of the test at any time is prohibited Test administrators may not write notes, calculations, or any other marks in a test booklet or in any other location Test administrators who give an oral administration of a test are required to sign a separate section of the test administrator oath October October TAKS Training 26

27 Test Administration Should be conducted by test administrators who are familiar with content-specific terms and symbols associated with the subject-area test. This will ensure that the test is administered accurately. Each word, phrase, and/or sentence in the test questions and answer choices may be read aloud as many times as necessary. No part of the test may be rephrased. Voice inflection must be kept neutral during the reading aloud of test questions and answer choices, although words that are boldfaced, italicized, or printed entirely in capital letters must be emphasized. Test administrators should read aloud the sample items in the same manner as they will read aloud the test questions. Nonverbal assistance may not be provided to students. 35 How to Read Q & A When reading words or numbers from a table, graph, or diagram, be careful not to aid the examinee in interpreting or analyzing the information on the graph or table, since the ability to interpret and analyze is part of what is being tested You may only read words and numbers to the examinee.
