3 Job Description Classification Title: Speech-Language Pathology Assistant Job #: I DEFINITION Under supervision of Language, Speech, and Hearing Therapists, completes a variety of tasks such as activities designed to develop pre-language and language skills, oral-motor control for speech production, vocalization, and use of assistive technology devices for communication; works with students who have identified speech and language disorders as well as other disabilities; performs related duties as assigned. RESPONSIBILITIES Conducts speech and language screenings, without interpretation, and uses screening protocols developed by the Language, Speech, and Hearing Therapists; provides direct treatment assistance to students at various school sites; follows and implements documented treatment plans or protocols; documents student progress toward meeting established objectives and reports the information to therapists; assists the therapists during assessments by assisting with documentation and performing clerical duties including preparing Medicaid requests and Low Incidence orders for therapists and completing Medicaid billing for students receiving direct therapy; prepares therapy materials such as visual boards, word walls, communication boards, and/or equipment for use in therapy activities; programs and troubleshoots Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) devices; adapts or modifies instructional materials and/or equipment as determined by student needs and abilities; assists in maintaining student records, tallying data, preparing charts, records, graphs and reports; observes and reports significant behavioral patterns or other problems to the therapists; assists in maintaining appropriate behavior between activities; prepares various teaching materials such as charts, pictures, word lists, and other related items. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Education, Training, and Experience Bachelor of Arts degree in speech-language pathology or communication disorders, or related field. Prior SLPA experience in educational or clinical settings is preferred. Knowledge of: Speech and language pathology equipment, materials, and procedures; normal speech, language, and hearing development; language disorders and rehabilitation; articulation disorders and rehabilitation; acquired disorders and rehabilitation; terminology related to communicative disorders; learning patterns in children; student behavior management techniques and strategies; learning difficulties of children with special education needs; AAC devices and other assistive technology; English usage, punctuation, spelling, and grammar; basic math skills; routine office procedures and recordkeeping; standard software applications including IPad applications. Skill and Ability to: Deal effectively with attitudes and behaviors of students; use a variety of screening tools and protocols; 2 appropriately administer and score screening tools; provide effective implementation of therapy objectives; interact and communicate effectively with children and adults from different cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds; work independently with minimal supervision; maintain and troubleshoot assistive equipment; communicate effectively in oral and written form; operate a computer and IPad using standard software applications; react with flexibility and sensitivity to changing situations and needs; organize and prioritize work; effectively carry out written and oral instructions; maintain cooperative work relationships.

5 School Psychologist Intern Job #: I school year Salary Scale -200 day contact for one school year $30, Qualifications: Must be currently enrolled in the School Psychology Program at Marshall University and has earned enough credits to be eligible for yearlong internship. Duties In school psychology training programs, a year-long internship provides a culminating experience and ultimately the opportunity to integrate numerous aspects of your education. Many consider this to be the most important part of training in school psychology. An internship enables you to practice and integrate skills with support from field-based supervisors and university program faculty. In addition to the professional experience they provide, internships are required for school psychology certification and licensure from national and state credentialing agencies. They offer varying degrees of hands-on experience, opportunities to practice and/or refine an area of interest, pathways to permanent positions, networking opportunities, and compensation Responsibility: the district will provide a minimum of 2 hours of supervision per week by a School Psychologist. The intern will work directly with students a teaching staff in a building level team. They will develop behavior and academic plans to help students be successful. The intern will be actively involved in the Student Assistant team process and provide psychological and academic assessments. The intern will be responsibility to develop a School Wide behavior support plan for the school with the assistance of the teaching staff. The intern will provide consultative services to parents and help facilitate improved parental involvement in the education process. The Intern will work under the Direction of the Director of Special Education

24 POSITION DESCRIPTION FOR THE POSITION OF SPEECH/LANGUAGE PATHOLOGIST The speech/language pathologist is responsible for the implementation and quality of instruction required by students with communication disorders as designated by federal, state, and county policies. PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Cooperate with other teachers, support personnel, administrators, and parents in planning and implementing the speech/language program for students assigned to him/her. 2. Work with building principals and county staff (supervisory) in identifying and solving problems related to assigned exceptional students. 3. Prepare and review IEP=s with parents and appropriate personnel reflecting specific objectives for each student. 4. Provide clinical instructional services to students with speech/language disorders. 5. Assist in the identification and evaluation of students who are referred for communication disorders. (Includes sweep screening activities). 6. Design and/or utilize diagnostic and evaluative techniques in diagnosing and assessing the exceptional students needs with regard to the goals and objectives designated by the IEP. Assess the accomplishments of students on a regular basis and provide progress reports as required. 7. Refer students for medical or other professional attention necessary for the clinical management of speech or language disorders. 8. Utilize materials, furniture, equipment and facilities in an effective manner. 9. Interact with students to promote a positive school image to enhance the teaching - learning process. 10. Perform assignments related to record keeping, progress reporting, child count, inventories, etc. 11. Maintain up-to-date files on each assigned student. 12. Assist in the selection of programs, equipment, and materials to meet the needs of exceptional students. 13. Submit requests and requisitions for equipment, materials, and supplies to meet the needs of assigned students. 14. Prepare daily and long range lesson plans as may be required. 15. Communicate and comply with local, state, and federal guidelines, regulations, and laws in regard to education of exceptional students. 16. Promote positive parent relations through effective communication and involvement of parents.

25 17. Attend staff meetings and serve on staff committees as required by the principal or other appropriate supervisory personnel. (SBAT, PAC, departmental meetings, inservice training programs, etc.) 18. Maintain and improve professional competence. 19. Function as other school faculty members in such areas as related duties, homeroom, etc., as scheduling permits. 20. Perform other duties and functions as assigned by the building principal and county supervisory staff. QUALIFICATIONS: The speech/language pathologist shall hold a valid West Virginia teacher certification with endorsement in the area(s) of assigned exceptionality. Upon approval of the West Virginia Department of Education, a teacher may be employed on permit providing a teacher with the required endorsement is not available.

26 POSITION DESCRIPTION FOR THE POSITION OF SPECIAL EDUCATION TEACHER The special education teacher is responsible for the implementation and quality of instruction to exceptional students designated by federal, state, and county policies. PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Cooperate with other teachers, support personnel, administrators, and parents in planning and implementing the instructional program for exceptional students assigned to him/her. 2. Work with building principal and county staff (supervisory) in identifying and solving problems related to assigned exceptional students. 3. Prepare and review IEP s with parents and appropriate personnel reflecting specific instructional objectives for each exceptional student. 4. Utilize teaching techniques and classroom strategies to accommodate the various learning styles and modes of students. 5. Design and/or utilize diagnostic and evaluative techniques in diagnosing and assessing the exceptional students needs with regard to the goals and objectives designated by the IEP. Assess the accomplishments of students on a regular basis and provide progress reports as required. 6. Utilize materials, furniture, equipment, and facilities in an effective manner to support the instructional program. 7. Provide resource assistance to regular education for students who are integrated into the regular classroom. 8. Interact with students to promote a positive school image to enhance the teaching-learning process. 9. QUALIFICATIONS: The special education teacher shall hold a valid West Virginia teacher certification with endorsements in the area(s) of assigned exceptionality.

27 FOR THE POSITION OF SUBSTITUTE TEACHER POSITION DESCRIPTION The teacher will plan, implement, and coordinate classroom activities in the assigned area of education. Assure establishment of activities leading to individual and class achievement of educational goals. Be knowledgeable of and assure compliance with school board policies and programs and those of other governmental agencies having jurisdiction over the school district. Teachers will assure compliance with established classroom regulations and standards. This includes the following: 1. Appropriate pupil accounting as assigned by the principal. 2. Assure proper care and usage of school property including maintenance of inventories. 3. Maintain appropriate student conduct in accordance with building and board policy. 4. Maintain a professional code of conduct and dress in association with students. 5. Maintain an interest in the overall growth and development of each assigned student and assure proper evaluation by professional record keeping. 6. Maintain a professional level of competence within the specialized field of education as well as the broad scope of education. 7. Maintain an appropriate level of personal conduct as established by professional codes and in accordance with the state and federal laws. 8. Develop and maintain a harmonious and understanding rapport with parents and other community agencies. 9. Develop and implement innovative activities in the areas of methods and curriculum toward upgrading of the understanding and development by students. 10. Perform extra-curricular and non-instructional duties as assigned or approved by the principal. QUALIFICATIONS: 1. College graduate with degree appropriate for specialized field of education. 2. Meet requirements of State Board of Education. 3. Actual teaching experience in public or private schools helpful but not essential. THE TEACHER AS A PROFESSIONAL: 1. The teacher maintains a cordial and cooperative working relationship with colleagues. 2. The teacher cooperates with and participates in the planning and evaluation of the school program, including textbook selection and curriculum development. 3. The teacher assumes responsibility for professional self-evaluation for the purpose of improvement. 4. The teacher works effectively with the public to define school objectives. 5. The teacher keeps informed on current educational trends, procedures, and practices by participating in inservice activities including workshops, courses, conferences, and the reading of literature in the field. 6. The teacher dresses appropriate to the level of respect received and desired. 7. The teacher strives to cooperate with the philosophy of the individual building. THE TEACHER AS A PERSON (LANGUAGE USE): 1. The teacher uses correct grammar, enunciates clearly, pronounces words correctly and uses good voice modulation when speaking. ATTITUDE: 1.
