Staff directives will be positive, proactive, and preventative when dealing with students. The following reward system will be used consistently throughout the school in grades K through 5. Individual Incentives Honey Bucks Honey Bucks will be colored-coded according to the grade level. Students from one grade level should not be in possession of any other grade level s Honey Bucks. Sharing or trading Honey Bucks with anyone is prohibited! The use of Honey Bucks outside of this established school-wide system will decrease the effectiveness of the reward. Redemption of Honey Bucks will be up to the individual child. 13

o o Earning Honey Bucks o o Attendance One Honey Buck will be awarded per day to students who arrive in the classroom by 7:50. o Citizenship One Honey Buck will be awarded for each day the Pride Folder is not signed. o Reading/AR One Honey Buck may be awarded for each chapter book read and AR test passed in grades 3-5. Students should be expected to read o books on their independent reading level. They should not get rewarded o for books below their reading level. Books or reading assigned in class o or done as homework do not count. o o Special Classes Only two Honey Bucks per class period will be awarded to outstanding participants. o o All staff should avoid large class rewards of Honey Bucks. Other incentives o or rewards should be given for motivation and recognition. o Honey Buck Rewards o Hat Friday 15 Honey Bucks wear a hat on Friday (only on Fridays) o Buddy Lunch 15 Honey Bucks eat with a grade level friend at your assigned lunch tables (must have completed slip with them during lunch) o School Store miscellaneous pricing purchase items from the School Store on Thursdays assigned to your grade level for shopping (Honey PTA will purchase items, price items, and operate store.) 14 P RIDE Slips o Honey Staff will award two PRIDE Slips each week to students who exhibit extraordinary PRIDE behaviors (Prepare, Respect, Invest, Decide, Excel). Staff members are encouraged to look for a variety of students who exhibit PRIDE both in and out of their grade level. Staff members should award one PRIDE Slip on their grade level and one outside of their grade level. o Staff members are encouraged to recognize PRIDE behaviors as a means of encouragement, classroom management and to be a proactive teaching tool for appropriate behaviors. The amount of PRIDE Slips presented at a time is not a set number; however, PRIDE Slips should never be awarded to an entire class. The effectiveness of this tool is directly proportional to the presentation, meaning and timing of the staff member.

o These PRIDE slips will be awarded to students for choices made in the common areas (cafeteria, arrival, dismissal, assemblies, restrooms, hallways, and break) as well as in the classroom. Staff members are encouraged to consider members of their own class as well as others they see throughout the building. Take time to praise any student who receives a PRIDE Slip. Displaying PRIDE Slips o As students receive PRIDE Slips, they may take it to the display wall across from the entrance near Kindergarten at an appropriate time arranged with the teacher. (This wall is viewable by all grade levels as well as by parents visiting the building.) PRIDE Slips will be displayed on the wall by grade levels for one week. o Students will be taught and will review expectations for hall behavior as they view and pass the display wall as well as the proper procedure for hanging the Slips. It will be counter effective if students are getting a folder sign for being excited about their positive Slips. o At the conclusion of each week, slips will be removed. Classroom Incentive Class of the Week o Each week a primary and an intermediate classroom will be selected to be the PRIDE Class of the Week. The two classes will take extreme pride in being model classrooms for other Honey students. Their classroom s name will be announced each morning of their assigned week, and the class picture displayed on the board in the foyer area. o Staff members are encouraged to prepare their class for times when they are the PRIDE Class of the Week by reviewing guidelines and procedures. o The PRIDE Class of the Week is meant to be a motivator for students to show their pride and teamwork. o Pictures will be taken at a time arranged by Vicki Hathaway. 15 Lunch Monitoring & Rewards o There will be 2 tables per classroom used at lunch each day. Each table will have a set of 3 colored cones; therefore, each class will have 2 sets of cones. o A cone system will be used for the cafeteria staff to communicate with students and teachers how they behaved during the lunch period. The top cone will display the current status of the class. A red cone indicates an inappropriate lunch either in noise or episode. A yellow cone indicates caution is necessary and noise is a little too high. A green cone indicates appropriate noise and no episodes. o The cone color may move several different directions within the lunch period. (Example: green to red, back to green, to yellow and back to green) o ONLY cafeteria staff may manipulate the color of the cones. Parents and students may not adjust the cones for any reason. If there is a consistent problem that has

16 not been addressed, parents may wish to discreetly make staff aware, but should not adjust the cones. o When the teacher picks up the class, a Lunch Report will be provided from a support staff member assigned to that table area only if there was a notable problem for that day. The report will indicate how the class performed as a whole or if there were a select few students who need to be addressed. The use of the Lunch Report should be a useful tool for teachers to reward and reteach skills and expectations as needed to ensure a more successful lunch environment. o A reward system shall be established and agreed upon by each grade level. Each person on the grade level is an important and contributing member of the team. The team will establish a reward system based on positive classroom behaviors during the lunch period. The grade level incentive plan must be developed and turned in to Mr. Neeb no later than the end of the day August 22 nd. (If no new plan is developed, the grade level agrees to continue with the original PRIDE Stick reward system.) o PRIDE Sticks (optional method of counting) if BOTH tables cones are green, the class has earned a PRIDE Stick (specialty pencils provided to each teacher to represent sticks). When the class returns to the room, the teacher (or a chosen student) may add one PRIDE Stick to the cup. After 10 PRIDE Sticks have been earned, the class receives a reward. The cup is then cleared, and the class begins earning the next 10 PRIDE Sticks. o If either of the 2 cones is not green, the class does not get a PRIDE Stick. If according to the staff, a student consistently prevents your class from earning a green cone at lunch, that particular student may need to not participate when the reward is earned and the cafeteria staff also may note the problems in the student s PRIDE folder. (It is suggested that a folder or documentation system be established to organize Lunch Reports. This will provide records of student behaviors for addressing some students about their own behaviors, addressing parent concerns, SST issues relating to peers (if needed) or other patterns of behaviors as warranted.) o The following PRIDE Stick Reward Chart shows various privileges a class may choose to earn when they attain 10 PRIDE Sticks. Students are allowed to choose the same reward multiple times. Staff members are encouraged to let students decide as a class what will be the best motivator for them as a group. o It is advised that to truly reward students, staff members should grant the privilege chosen by the class the day of or the day immediately following the earning of the tenth PRIDE Stick. Occasionally weather may become a factor, and teachers will use their own judgment on the best time to grant the reward. Any item on the above chart may be cashed in whenever it is not a normal occurrence. Keep in mind that there should be a staff member present outside for EACH class. Students should stay within their own class and not merge into larger grade level groups. A teacher may also choose to take students out immediately following their lunch time if it is acceptable within their daily schedule.

Dear Parents, We have had many successful years implementing Honey s Positive Behavior Interventions and Support plan, which involves creating a positive reward system and developing behavior expectations for the eight common areas of our school (arrival, departure, cafeteria at lunch, hallways, restrooms, assemblies and office area). A PBIS team worked together to create the guidelines for a more positive, safe, and efficient school day. Parents are an integral part of this implementation. Schools and families must be partners in supporting and socializing students. Parent support can significantly increase the effectiveness of any school intervention. We are attaching the PRIDE guidelines for the eight common areas. These can also be found on the Honey Elementary website. Please take the time to review both the Parent and Student Expectations for each of the areas. Staff members will also have a set of expectations and responsibilities. We will all work together to make our learning environment a safe and successful place for students, parents, and staff. Please pay particular attention to the following: o Parking and leaving your vehicle unattended during morning arrival and afternoon departure is now prohibited. If you wish to get out of your vehicle, please park somewhere other than the drive through area. o Parents are asked not to drive through or drop off their child in the teacher parking lot. o Disabled parking is painted blue and should be observed at all times. o There are only two morning entrance areas that are unlocked before 7:45 the main front doors and back doors near the portable buildings. From 7:45-7:50 only, the door near Kinder/1 st grade will be open and monitored by a staff member. All students and parents arriving before 7:45 will go to the cafeteria. (PreK is the only exception.) o All students will be counted tardy after 7:50. Students must be already in their room when the bell rings and announcements begin. Those not in the grade level area will be asked to report to the office for a tardy slip. o Any child on the playground after 3:20 must be supervised by his/her own parent. We are excited about the rewards (on the back of this sheet) and opportunities this implementation offers to all students. These guidelines will have a positive and safe effect on our school environment. Honey PBIS Team 22

Honey PRIDE Reward System Honey Staff will reinforce appropriate student behavior using a variety of positive rewards. Staff directives will be positive, proactive, and preventative when dealing with students. The following reward system will be used consistently throughout the school in grades K through 5. Honey Bucks Honey Bucks will be colored-coded according to the grade level. PRIDE Slips o Honey Staff will award two PRIDE Slips per week to award to students who exhibit extraordinary PRIDE behaviors (Prepare, Respect, Invest, Decide, Excel). o These PRIDE Slips will be awarded to students for choices made in the common areas (cafeteria, arrival, dismissal, assemblies, restrooms, hallways, and break) as well as in the classroom setting. o As students receive PRIDE Slips, they will hang the appropriate portion in the hallway near the front east entrance. Tickets must be written in the PRIDE Book before 3:00pm to be announced the following morning. These will be removed from the wall at the end of each week. o Mr. Neeb will announce PRIDE Slip recipients each morning. o One portion of the PRIDE Slip is designed for the student to take home immediately for parents to see. Class of the Week o Each week a primary and an intermediate classroom will be selected to be the PRIDE Class of the Week. The two classes will take extreme pride in being model classrooms for other Honey students. Their classroom s name will be announced during their assigned week, and the class picture displayed near the office area. PRIDE at Lunch o A cone system will be used for the cafeteria staff to communicate with students and teachers how they behaved during the lunch period. The top cone will display the current status of the class. A red cone indicates an inappropriate lunch either in noise or episode. A yellow cone indicates caution is necessary and noise is a little too high. A green cone indicates appropriate noise and no episodes. o ONLY cafeteria staff may manipulate the color of the cones. Parents and students may not adjust the cones for any reason. If there is a consistent problem that has not been addressed, parents may wish to discreetly make staff aware, but should not adjust the cones. o When the homeroom teacher picks up the class, if BOTH tables cones are green, the class has earned a PRIDE Incentive for the day. After the class has met the grade level incentive expectations, the class receives a reward voted on by the class. 23
