3 Section RSMo Bullying and Suicide Awareness/Prevention Modified the definition of bullying Modified the components districts must include in their antibullying policies Required DESE to develop a model policy for youth suicide awareness and prevention DESE to develop training guidelines (materials) Districts to adopt a policy for youth suicide awareness and prevention education

4 Section RSMo Trauma Informed Schools Initiative Requirements of DESE Consult with the Departments of Mental Health and Social Services to implement requirements Provide information regarding trauma-informed approach to all school districts Offer training on trauma-informed approach to all school districts Develop a website about the trauma-informed schools initiative and a guide for schools on how to become trauma informed schools *Trauma Informed Schools Pilot Program is on hold - subject to appropriations - (currently funds withheld).

5 Section RSMo Dyslexia Created a Legislative Taskforce on Dyslexia Task force will make recommendations for a statewide system for identification intervention delivery of supports for students with dyslexia DESE is to develop guidelines for appropriate screening of students for dyslexia. necessary support for students with dyslexia and related disorders. * These guidelines shall be consistent with the findings and recommendations of the task force.

6 Section RSMo Dyslexia Each school district and charter school shall Conduct dyslexia screenings consistent with the guidelines developed by DESE; Provide reasonable classroom support consistent to the guidelines developed by DESE; and Include two hours of in-service training for all practicing teachers in the district regarding dyslexia and related disorders.

7 Career and Technical Education (CTE) Advisory Council The CTE council shall develop a comprehensive statewide short-and long-range strategic plan for career and technical education; identify service gaps and provide advice on closing such gaps related to employees, workforce development, and employers on training needs; and confer with public and private entities to promote and improve career and technical education.

8 Career and Technical Education Certificate 8 CTE certificate legislation - Senate Bills 620 and 582 (2016) CTE certificate requirements approved June 2017 by State Board of Education, in consultation with the CTE advisory council

9 Career and Technical Education Certificate 9 Earned by students in addition to their high school graduation diploma Available to students entering high school in and later Must meet all requirements to receive the CTE certificate

10 CTE Certificate Criteria 10 Qualify as a CTE concentrator Minimum GPA of 3.0/4.0 Technical Skill Assessment (TSA) and/or Industry Recognized Credential (IRC) 50 hours work-based learning experiences 95% attendance in grades 9-12 Attainment of soft-skills/business skills Score state standard on DESE-approved measure(s) of college and career readiness

11 Missouri Career Pathways Vision All Missouri citizens will (1) graduate from high school success ready with an individual career and academic plan (ICAP) and work-based learning experience; (2) attain a credential of certification with value in the regional and global labor market(s); and (3) launch a career in an occupation earning a family living wage with opportunity to advance to higher levels of education and employment.
