1 Factory Shoals Elementary School Wide Discipline Plan The Dynamic Dolphin program is a set of school-wide expectations and rules for student behavior. It begins with a daily reciting of The Dolphin Pledge to create a positive Dolphin family mindset. Teachers will train students in the Dolphin Matrix expectations and reinforce them with active supervision, regular routines, and daily communication through the color coding system. The following FSES Standards of Conduct outline expectations for student behavior and are geared to teach many of the character traits we stress all year: Student Responsibilities FSES Standards of Conduct: As a student at Factory Shoals Elementary, I will: 1. Show respect for myself, others, and property. 2. Listen and follow directions. 3. Take responsibility for myself and my actions. 4. Follow school-wide procedures hallway, cafeteria, PE, Art, and Music Appropriate student behavior is recognized through praise, rewards, phone calls, and notes. Inappropriate student behavior is monitored by students and teachers through a visual color coded system: Students are allowed to move back up the behavior scale if they exhibit appropriate behavior. * Warning Loss of privileges/time-out Loss of privileges, parent contact All students start each day on blue. Students that demonstrate exceptional behavior will be recognized through our Dolphin 200 club. *s vary by grade level. See grade level information sheets for specific consequences. Opportunity Room (OR) Referrals: Teachers should contact parents before sending students to the office for minor classroom disruptions. This will allow parents the opportunity to work with their child in order to solve the problem. Continuous disruptive behavior (example: two or more red days in a week) may result in automatic referral to O.R. **Serious offenses: Automatic referral to office for reasons that include fighting, bullying, threats, harassment, weapons, vandalism, or stealing. No prior parent contact required. Assignment to and amount of time in the Opportunity Room (OR) is determined by administrators only. The Douglas County School System Discipline Manual is used for guidance in determining consequences for serious offenses.

2 Teacher Responsibilities 1. Set expectations and remember that discipline is not a punishment, but an opportunity to teach. 2. Monitor behavior consistently each day. 3. Use agreed upon visual to track student behavior in classroom. 4. Maintain communication log and communicate daily behavior with parents through agenda or communication notebooks. 5. Consider developmental level and grade level discipline expectations when determining when to move students from one color level to the next. Inappropriate behavior outside classroom: *Special Areas (PE/Art/Music) Reminder of expectations, information on consequences sent home *Cafeteria Reminder of expectations, move to silent table *Hallway Students are expected to be on the third tile and quiet *Media Center Reminder of expectations, return to class Administrator Responsibilities 1. If a child is assigned to the Opportunity Room (OR) parents will be contacted concerning the offense and consequence. 2. Inform teacher of consequences (amount of time in OR, etc.) 3. Return a copy of OR referral form to teacher for their records. Parent Responsibilities I will support implementation of the FSES Standards of Conduct by: Signing daily that I am aware of child's level of conduct. Supporting my child s teacher. Helping my child understand his/her responsibilities. Assist the school should my child choose not to follow the Standards of Conduct. Please review this plan with your child, complete the following information and return to your child s teacher by Friday, August 19, A copy of this plan is posted on our school website under the Forms link.
