Works SPEECH LANGUAGE PATHOLOGIST Evaluates and treats patients referred to the Speech Therapy department. Documents patient evaluation, plan of care, progress and discharge status. JOB DUTIES 1. Knows and adheres to the code of ethics and all laws and regulations pertaining to patient health, safety, medical information. 2. Accurately evaluates patients with communication and/or swallowing disorders appropriate and consistent with patient diagnosis. 3. Develops goal-oriented treatment plans, interventions, educational materials based upon evaluation results and patient input, establishes functional, measurable and attainable goals and performs reassessment and updating/modification of goals based on client progress. 4. Clinical Treatment: Administers individualized and effective treatment procedures through engagement of client using interpersonal dynamics (including home exercise and selftreatment plans and family education) to assist patient towards goal achievement Provides information regarding diagnosis and prognosis of therapy, recognizes contradictions or adverse responses to therapy and adjusts treatment accordingly, provides recommendations and discharge planning as appropriate for the anticipated needs of the patient. 5. Maintains files and/or records (e.g. progress reports, billing information, treatment plans, required documentation, quarterly reports, screening results, etc.). and/or other written materials (e.g. activity logs, correspondence, memos, etc.) as required. 6. Makes appropriate recommendations and referrals for additional services. Consults and collaborates with a variety of groups and/or individuals (e.g. parents, teachers, physicians, other rehabilitation disciplines, team members, other professionals, etc.) for the purpose of coordination of treatment strategies, communicating information, resolving issues and providing services. 7. Maintains and increases professional competency by participating in continued education and annual review. Provides in-service for staff after attending courses and conducts in service training programs in the community regarding speech therapy services. 8. Participates in team meetings and client treatment planning meetings. 9. Actively demonstrates the company's mission and core values, and conducts oneself professionally at all times in a manner consistent with these values. OTHER JOB DUTIES 1. Must possess excellent organizational, time management, verbal and written skills. Judgment, problem solving, mental flexibility, and initiative are required. 2. Physical strength and mobility to meet demands of the job including, but not limited to, occasional bending, squatting and reaching, frequent sitting and standing, and, when appropriate, floor sitting with pediatric patients. 4. 3 Continued from previous page. JOB SPECIFICATIONS AND CORE COMPETENCIES Education: Masters Degree in Speech Language Pathology from an accredited academic program. Licensure: Current Indiana License (or eligible) as a Speech-Language Pathologist Experience: ASHA CCC preferred with prior experience in a Clinical Setting, but CFY encouraged to apply. Criminal Justice Fingerprint/Background Clearance SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES SKILLS are required to perform multiple, highly complex, technical tasks with a need to occasionally upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions. Specific skill-based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include, but are not limited to: applying assessment instruments; operating specialized equipment used in the treatment of communication disorders; operating standard office equipment including pertinent computer software; and preparing and maintaining accurate records. KNOWLEDGE is required to perform multiple, highly complex, technical tasks with a need to occasionally upgrade knowledge in order to meet changing job conditions. Specific knowledgebased competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include, but are not limited to: anatomy and physiology of speech and hearing mechanisms and disorders; principles and practices of speech and language therapy; and pertinent codes, policies, regulations and/or laws. Maintain a positive learning environment which is attractive and well-organized to promote student interest in learning. Utilize an appropriate behavior management system to maintain efficient use of the total instructional time. Maintain ongoing communication with the school personnel, parents, and other professionals to positively enhance program effectiveness. Participate in department meetings, staff meetings, professional learning community (PLC) meetings and in-service activities. Participate as a team member to provide hearing screenings for students in Kindergarten, grades one, four seven and ten, students who are new to the school system and students who are suspected to have speech, language or hearing problems on a referral basis.
