2 MCPSAP-PR Montgomery County Public Schools Assessment Program for Primary Reading (sometimes referred to as MCLASS) This assessment tool is designed to give MCPS teachers and schools a comprehensive view of all K-2 students literacy skills. This individual balanced literacy assessment combines guided reading practices which measures phonemic awareness, phonics, and fluency. The test is administered by the classroom teacher for each individual student. Informs instructional practice and measures progress Administered 3 times a year within a designated testing window

3 MAP-P, MAP-R, MAP-M MAP P (Primary Math), MAP-R (Reading), MAP-M (Math) Grades 1 and 2 (MAP-P) and grades 3-5 (MAP-R and MAP- M) in the fall, winter, and spring. Kindergarten takes MAP-P only in the Winter and Spring The difficulty of the assessment is based on the students performance. If the students get a certain amount correct the test gives harder questions, if they start to get them wrong it will automatically give easier questions until the find the appropriate level. MAP testing results identify the skills and concepts students have learned and diagnose instructional needs for individual students or an entire class or grade level. Measures academic growth over time.

4 InView GT Identification All Second Graders and those new to MCPS take the test (Grades 3-5) The test was taken over three days during the first week of December 5 subtests administered: Sequencing, Analogies, Quantitative Reasoning, Verbal Reasoning (Words & Context) Multiple Criteria for GT identification Parent Survey Teacher Survey Staff Advocacy Reading and Math Levels Identification happens in the Spring SIPPI (Student Instructional Program Planning and Implementation) recognize students whose performance, motivation, or potential ability indicates the needs for accelerated and enriched instruction

5 Test for Compacted Math Compacted Math math taken in 4 th and 5 th grade by some students. It takes 3 years of math (Grades 4-6) and condenses them into two years. Test given in 3 rd grade to some students Students who meet the counties criteria are identified to take the test. The criteria include grades from both 2 nd and 3 rd grade report cards, score on certain parts of the INVIEW test, and teacher recommendations. The test is broken into 5 tasks and given to students in small groups over 5 days between November-February. The results of the tests are not shared with schools until the end of may/beginning of June.

6 Highly Gifted Center and Magnet Programs Cold Spring Elementary and Middle Schools HGC (Coldspring) grades 4 and 5 Magnet Programs grades 6 and up Applications mailed to all 3 rd and 5 th grade students in September Parent Meetings held October Deadline for applications is November HGC and Magnet Testing - December/January School recommendations due to MCPS office by mid December

7 IEP Process Pre-EMT [Educational Management Team]: consultation with teacher(s) to discuss observations and strategies Documentation of Interventions [DOI]: implementation of suggested strategies for 6-8 weeks Follow-Up EMT: discuss outcome of implemented strategies Screening Meeting: IEP Team & parents meet to discuss additional information gathered including: teacher referral, educational history, classroom observation, & parent questionnaire; testing may be recommended based on information gathered Initial Evaluation: Planning and Determination Meetings; evaluations are completed based on findings from the screening meeting which can include testing by: speechlanguage pathologist, resource teacher, school psychologist, occupational therapist, and/or physical therapist

8 IEP Process (continued) Timelines: 90 days from referral or 60 days from signed authorization, whichever is sooner Individualized Educational Program [IEP] Development: based on the outcome of testing, a legal document is created to meet the educational needs of the student; testing accommodations are a part of the IEP Re-Evaluation Planning Meetings and Determinations: mandated to occur every three years or sooner, if necessary; diagnostic questions are posed; testing is completed if additional or updated data is needed Exiting Special Education: student no longer qualifies as a student with an educational disability

9 ESOL Assessment - WIDA (World class Instructional Design & Assessment) Measures the development of the English language proficiency skills of English language learners (ELL) in grades K-12 on an annual basis within the domains of listening, speaking, reading and writing. The primary purpose of this assessment is to measure English proficiency growth tied to the criteria of the WIDA Consortium s English language Proficiency Standards. Standards are aligned to the academic content areas. Mid January thru Mid February All ELL students identified as ELL take this test.

10 PARTNERSHIP FOR ASSESSMENT OF READINESS FOR COLLEGE AND CAREERS (PARCC) PARCC will be given this year between May 9 th and June 3 rd. We will share exact dates for each grade in February. PARCC s ultimate goal is to ensure all students graduate from high school college- and career-ready. PARCC assessments include English Language Arts/Literacy (Reading) and Math. The testing is done using the Chromebooks and includes both selected response and written responses.
