4 3. Assessment Procedures and Timeline The graduate Art Therapy Psychology Program will assess one student learning outcome annually, using at least one required or elective course. Each year the department will examine the syllabus for the course in which an outcome will be assessed; the primary responsibility for choosing and designing the assessment instruments will be the instructor of the class in consultation with the chair and the Division of Social Sciences Assessment Coordinator. The Department will hold a meeting in January or May (depending on the semester of the course involved) for the purpose of assessing student progress on learning outcomes. All full-time faculty members will be expected to participate, and part-time faculty will be invited to attend. A report will then be submitted by the instructor to the chair, who will forward it to the SS Assessment Coordinator. GPY4200 Communication and Counseling Skills: This assessed with three written interviews with volunteers. 4

Expected Levels of Achievement The expected level of achievement in the capstone classes (GPY4397 Research: Thesis Completion and GPY4370 Seminar II) is expected to be mastery. The expected level of achievement in the early practicum class and the ethic class (GPY4365 Seminar I and GPY4255 Professional Ethics and Law I) is expected to be mid level competence. The expected level of achievement in communication (GPY4200 Communication and Counseling Skills) is early level competence. V. Review and Action The faculty will address these measures in each September, January and May staff meetings. Each instructor for the class will be responsible for collecting the data. They will meet with the chair to compile data. The department will utilize the data in yearly strategic plans and in our accreditation reviews. VI. Retention and Use of Assessment Results The data will be stored in the G-drive and made accessible to all faculty. We will use the data in our yearly strategic planning meetings and in any program reviews.
