1 Lisa Persinger, Ph.D. Assistant Professor, School Psychology Program Coordinator, Academic Advisor, and Dissertation Chair/Member Professional Bio Dr. Lisa L. Persinger currently serves as the coordinator of Northern Arizona University School Psychology Programs. She is a Nationally Certified School Psychologist and a licensed psychologist in Arizona. Dr. Persinger obtained her Ph.D. and M.S. from Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana. She obtained an M.A. degree in Counseling and Social Psychologies from Ball State University and a B.A. in Psychology from Franklin College, also in Indiana. Dr. Persinger served in a leadership capacity for the National Association of School Psychologists for 5 years and continues her work with the GLBTQ Issues Committee. She consulted on the American Psychological Association s Healthy LGBTQ Students Project when it began in 2000 and has continued to support it since that time. Dr. Persinger has many years of experience working in residential treatment with both adolescents and adults with developmental disabilities and those with brain injuries. She also has experience working schools as a school psychologist. Dr. Persinger provides coaching services to district and school teams for the Arizona Department of Education to support capacity building for systems changes to improve outcomes for students with disabilities. She works closely with other faculty around the state on collaborative endeavors to support school psychology training and practice statewide. Dr. Persinger also provides training and consultation for school districts seeking improvement in services and outcomes related to school-based intervention and systems level support for academic and behavioral issues. Currently, Dr. Persinger is the President-Elect of the Arizona Association of School Psychologists. Her focus in the training program is on applied school psychology skills. Areas of Research and/or Professional Interest Dr. Persinger has research and professional interests in how school psychology and human service professionals think about and use information to make decisions in school-based settings. She has studied how gender information about children is perceived and used, as well as how other characteristics, context, abilities, and achievement information is used by practitioners for school-based decisions. She has authored numerous research to practice curricula, guide documents, and articles related to supporting gender diverse and lesbian, gay, bisexual children and youth in schools in collaboration with others in the National Association of School Psychologists and the American Psychological Association Safe and Respectful Schools Project.
