None The Special Education Paraeducator Academy has been established to provide categorical and general training to all Special Education Paraeducators. A variety of training topics will be offered and each strand will be held in three different locations to provide convenient training sites. The attached Training Schedule lists the training sessions available, dates, times and locations for each session. The enrollment form must be completed and must contain the signature of the school administrator. 4 LOS ANGELES UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT Division of Special Education SPECIAL EDUCATION PARAEDUCATOR ACADEMY INSTRUCTIONS FOR COMPLETING THE ENROLLMENT FORM 1. Select a training strand in which you are interested and for which you are qualified from the list of training sessions. 2. Complete the attached Enrollment Form and return it to the address indicated (on or before the due date). 3. Each Strand contains 6 hours of training completed in 3 two-hour sessions (except the Career Ladder Strand). Please include all session dates. 4. Participants will be paid for the hours they normally work. Any time over their normal hours will be unpaid time. REMINDER: Your Principal must sign the form indicating that they are willing to release you and cover your assignment on the dates of training you have selected. The number of participants in each session is limited. Please register as soon as possible to ensure your enrollment in the desired session. At this time the Special Education Paraeducators can only enroll in one session per year. To receive a certification of completion participants must attend all three sessions of each strand.

Instructional and learning strategies will be discussed, and tips on how to be successful while working within the general education classroom will be covered. This session is open to all paraeducators currently serving in a Special Day Class (SDC) or Resource Specialist Program (RSP) for students with SLD or Temporary Support Assistants (TSA) assigned to a student whose primary eligibility is SLD. 15 PAGE 10 STRAND 10: Title: Paraeducator Career Ladder Forum and the 7 th Annual Paraeducator Career Ladder Conference. Description: The Paraeducator Career Ladder is a program of support for all District paraeducators who need to complete the paraeducator requirements for the No Child Left Behind Act and/or want to pursue a career in teaching, school psychology, or school counselor. The Career Ladder provides partial Tuition Reimbursement, scholarships, access to a variety of BA and credential programs, reimbursement for the CBEST, and hiring assistance. The Forums provide the opportunity for paraeducators to join the Career Ladder as well as receive information on Behavior Management, Special Education, Credential Options, and earning a BA. College advisers will also be available to answer questions. In order to receive a certificate attendance is required at: 1) 3 Forums OR 2) 1 Forum and the Annual Conference. The Paraeducator Career Ladder is open to all District paraeducators.
