1 TCAP Achievement and End f Curse Tests Grades 3-8 TCAP Achievement Assessments Annual assessments play a key rle in the teaching and learning prcess, and they are critical t ensure that all students are meeting higher standards and are making prgress n their path t pstsecndary and the wrkfrce. The TCAP assessments are designed t prvide Tennessee students, teachers, and families with better infrmatin abut what students knw and understand. Each test (by subject) is divided int multiple subparts and will be administered n paper in a single administratin windw at the end f the schl year. English language arts (4 subparts) will cnsist f multiple chice and selected respnse items, as well as reading frm texts and prviding a written respnse. Mathematics (3 subparts) will cnsist f multiple chice, multiple select, equatin editr, matching tables, and graphing representatins. Science (2 subparts) will measure current cntent standards and cnsist f multiple chice items. The required scial studies field test will have ne subpart. Required Yes Applicable Federal/State Law Administered in accrdance with the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) f 2015 and T.C.A pertaining t district and schl accuntability. Mdified assessments in Braille and large print are als prvided in accrdance with the Every Student Succeeds Act f 2015 and Individuals with Disabilities Educatin Act (IDEA) f Purpse & Use The TCAP tests are designed t assess true student understanding and nt just basic memrizatin and test-taking skills. TCAP measures student understanding f ur current state standards, nt the previus SPIs with the exceptin f science, which is scheduled t have new assessments in the schl year.

April 17 May 5 The ELA subpart 1, which includes a written respnse, must be administered the first week f the administratin windw. Length f Assessment English Language Arts Grades 3-5 Subpart 1 (writing): 75 minutes Subparts 2-4: minutes each Grades 6-8 Subpart 1 (writing): 85 minutes Subparts 2-4: minutes each Mathematics Grades 3-5 Subparts 1 3: minutes each Grades 6-8 Subparts 1 3: minutes each Science Grade 3 Subparts 1 2: minutes each Grades 4-8 Subparts 1 2: minutes each Scial Studies (field test) Grades 3-8 ne subpart: 50 minutes Results t Parents & Students
3 Quick scre reprts, which prvide teachers and parents with a snapsht f their student s perfrmance, are prvided t districts by end f schl year. These are used t help calculate final grades fr reprt cards. Due t vendr delivery issues in the schl year, this is the first year we will be able t fully administer the new tests fr grades 3 8. The scring results will be delayed while Tennessee teachers and the department cmplete the scring prcess during the summer. Therefre, the results fr grades 3 8 will nt be released until fall During future test administratins, the department will publish results fr grades 3 8 and high schl n a similar timeline. Districts receive individual perfrmance reprts which summarize student perfrmance in mre detail. Districts can chse hw and when t share these reprts with parents. - See mre at: Students with Disabilities During the schl year, TCAP-Alternate will include the Multi-State Alternate Assessment (MSAA) in English language arts and math, as well as the TCAP-Alternate assessment in science and scial studies. TCAP-Alternate is an assessment based n alternate achievement standards. This assessment is apprpriate fr students with a significant cgnitive disability as determined by the Individual Educatin Plan (IEP) team. The MSAA is designed t be administered nline by the test administratr. The TCAP- Alternate science and scial studies is designed t be administrated via paper by the test administratr. Required Yes Applicable Federal/State Law The develpment f alternate achievement standards fr students with the mst significant cgnitive disabilities is authrized under a department regulatin (34 C.F.R.
6 Part 200) published n December 9, 2003, and T.C.A The Individuals with Disabilities Educatin Act (IDEA), sectin 504 f the Rehabilitatin Act f 1973, and Title I require inclusin f all students with disabilities in the state assessment system. Purpse & Use This test is given t help measure hw much a student grws academically ver the curse f a schl year. Administratin Windw (Tests must be given within these calendar dates) The peratinal Alternative assessments will be administered March 6 May 12. Districts are highly encuraged t participate in the state-wide field test f the Alternate Assessment in Octber Length f Assessment Students are given the assessment during class time thrughut the windw based n student needs and class schedules. Results t Parents & Students Districts receive individual perfrmance reprts which detail student perfrmance in early summer. SAT Fall SAT: Octber 19, 2016 Spring SAT: March 1, 2017 r April 5, 2017 (district chice) Students may als take the SAT n the dates listed at US SAT Registratin. Participatin in the statewide administratin f ACT r SAT cunts as using a vucher.
