Overview of the Problem Solving Team (PST) procedures: The team reviews referrals from individual teachers, grade level teams, and results of benchmark testing and administration. Information is obtained regarding educational/medical history and team ensures parents are notified of the referral and process. If student s concerns are validated by converging evidence and to be addressed by the team, each step of the process is documented in the database, including problem identification, problem analysis, plan development, plan implementation, and plan evaluation. The PST periodically reviews weekly progress monitoring data and considers: effectiveness of interventions, integrity of intervention implementation, and potential changes to the intervention if necessary. When growth is minimal, changes are made to the intervention or a referral is made to SST for consideration of evaluation for

4 Overview of the Problem Solving Team (BIT) procedures: Membership of the BIT includes the principal, general education teachers, special education teachers, guidance counselor and the school psychologist. The BIT meets weekly for an hour. The team reviews referrals from individual teachers, grade level teams, and results of benchmark testing and administration. Information is obtained regarding educational/medical history and team ensures parents are notified of the referral and process. If student s concerns are validated by converging evidence and to be addressed by the team, each step of the process is documented in the database, including problem identification, problem analysis, plan development, plan implementation, and plan evaluation. The PST periodically reviews weekly progress monitoring data and considers: effectiveness of interventions, integrity of intervention implementation, and potential changes to the intervention if necessary. When students make significant progress toward their year-end goal, the PST may discontinue the intervention and ongoing support is provided through the grade level teams. When growth is minimal, either changes are made to the intervention, or a referral is made to SST for consideration of evaluation for special education services.

5 Overview of the Student Support Team (SST) procedures: The Student Support Team includes all special education teachers, the school psychologist, guidance counselor, and the due process secretary. SST is facilitated by a Special Education. The team meets bi-weekly for hours. All students receiving special education services or referred for a special education evaluation through the BIT or parent request are on the caseload of the SST. Topics covered during SST meetings include: Evaluation/reevaluation planning and coordination, IEP planning, individual student problem solving and collaboration as needed, due process timeline monitoring, and professional development regarding updates in due process procedures and policies. Case managers are individually responsible for creating student IEP s and collecting data on each goal and bring questions and concerns to the SST as needed. Student is either referred back to grade level teams with recommendations or will be placed on list of students to be addressed through problem solving process. If more information is required to make determination team assigns member(s) to obtain necessary information and report back to team. If student s concerns are to be addressed through PST the team works through problem solving process to address concerns. PST periodically reviews progress monitoring data and determines: effectiveness of interventions, required changes in interventions, and need, depending upon success or failure of interventions, to refer back to grade level teams, continue to monitor progress and required intervention changes, or refer to SST for consideration of evaluation for special education services. Maintain necessary documentation of interventions. Ensure grade level teams have communicated with parents regarding concerns. Overview of the Student Support Team (SST) procedures: Reviews referrals from the Problem Solving Team (PST) to determine if a special education evaluation is appropriate.

7 Determines evaluation procedures for initial evaluations referred from PST. Determines evaluation procedures to be used on mandated evaluations included those required three-year eligibility and early re-evaluations required because of need for transition evaluations. Reviews progress monitoring data on special education students referred by case manager to determine need for intervention changes and provide input regarding changes. Process parent requests for student evaluation to determine special education eligibility.
