The grade is pushed from 3, as we aim for the English track, to 5 for our French Immersion students due to the main goal for the first few years of primary is language acquisition. Daily 5 reading program, silent reading blocks and other literacy based lesson times occurred daily. French stream classes followed a similar language arts program, minus the leveled reading with additional instructors. We try to provide students time to explore titles and genres to find French language books of interest to read in class during choice reading times and at home. Library, silent reading, reading centers, free time reading all allowed for student choice reading time. Student surveys will be utilized next year to monitor use of time. Goal 2 Engagement and Connections: We as a Board believe that to create engagement and lasting connections we must: 1. Celebrate and promote achievements of our students and staff 2. Improve and expand our use of social media to communicate what is happening in the district 3. Continue to support and raise the profile of student leadership opportunities in the District 4. Continue to develop focused student leadership opportunities for First Nations students 5. Reach out to Brooks Student Council to engage with Board 6. Communicate to and collaborate with community stakeholders 7. Reestablish DPAC and attend PAC meetings quarterly 8. Invite administrators and teachers to articulate what s happening regarding educational excellence, Board vision and BCED plan 9. Communicate Board vision regarding excellence and BCED Plan 1.
