1 District: Yonkers Action Planning to Achieve America s Promise May 1, 2009 Once your team/school/district has decided upon SMART goals for at least two of the following Promises out of the five America s Promises please list them below. Also list any next steps to continue meeting, collaborating and working together to achieve the goals and increase student engagement and the high school graduation rate. Promise 1: Caring Adults 1. Continue and expand Personalized Learning/ Career Plans and Student-Led Conferences with administrators, teachers, counselors, and parents. 2. Expand upon Mentoring Program so that all students are connected to an adult advocate in the school building. 3. Continue and sustain Gear Up and College Readiness programs making connections with students and providing opportunities for college visits. 4. Continue with programs that support student transition into high school and college: Summer Transition Program, College 101, and Teens in Transition. 5. Continue to implement all existing parental involvement initiatives and increase PTSA enrollment, PTSA/School sponsored events, and participation in the PTSA/School sponsored events. 6. Organize a "Bring your Parent to School Day" where parents can feel part of their child's education. Promise 2: Safe Places 1. Continue to provide a safe and secure learning environment for all students and staff. 2. Continue to provide organized, structured athletic programs and recreational activities. 3. Increase internet safety awareness amongst students, parents, and teachers by arranging for the DA s office to do presentations. 4. Implement the RTI model so all staff and students are aware of consequences for actions as well as establish specific safety procedures. 5. Create Positive Behavior Intervention Support (PBIS) School Teams in each school focusing on areas of concern in the building Promise 3: A Healthy Start 1. Provide students with a variety of healthy and appealing breakfast, lunch, and snack choices. 2. Incorporate a wellness festival to introduce students to elements of wellness. 3. Develop and implement activities other than sports for gym such as Zoomba exercise and Latin Dance. 4. Increase community outreach to support and reinforce healthy habits for children. 5. Create a welcoming and nurturing atmosphere, educating students in mental health using outside counseling and peer mediation. 6. Institute Health tip of the day activities for the mind and body. 7. Increase "green" awareness of students.

Increase the quality of the learning environment through the daily usage of technology and differentiated instruction. 3. Continue to provide academic extra help programs and extracurricular activities to facilitate student learning and social awareness 4. Continue to provide challenging Advanced Placement, IB, and college link courses and increase student enrollment in these courses. 5. Continue to work with college partners to increase student college readiness and research skills. 6. Continue college visits virtual, onsite, and offsite. 7.
