1 PROGRESS: % ( of 26 Action Items Complete) The following report is filtered by active items, all statuses, all funding sources, all assignments, all tags, and all goals. 1: ELA achievement for all students will increase by 1 percentage points, moving from 7.3% proficient or highly proficient on 216 AzMERIT to 17.3% proficient or highly proficient on 217 AzMERIT. 2: The percent of students in the State s bottom 25% in ELA will decrease by 3 percentage points from 47% on 216 AzMERIT to 44% on 217 AzMERIT. 3: English Language Proficient reclassification will increase by 4%, moving from an estimated 13% reclassification as proficient in 216 to 17% reclassification as proficient in 217, as measured by AZELLA. Note: As of this date (9/21/16), OELAS has not yet released the actual reclassification results. This goal is based on estimated reclassification results for FY16. 4: MATH achievement for all students will increase by 1 percentage points, moving from 5.8% proficient or highly proficient on 216 AzMERIT to 15.8 % proficient or highly proficient on 217 AzMERIT. 5: The percent of students in the State s bottom 25% in MATH will decrease by 4 percentage points from 51% on 216 AzMERIT to 47% on 217 AzMERIT. 6: Science achievement for Grade 4 students will increase by 5 percentage points, moving from 26% passing the AIMS Spring 216 assessment to 31% passing in Spring : Increase attendance by 1% moving from 94% in SY15-16 to 95% in SY School Leadership The principal will effectively guide the school through the Continuous Improvement process. 3 Strengthen Instruction for Students Coaching A full-time Instructional Specialist provides coaching to teachers and paraprofessionals including best practices and interventions, and facilitating the weekly collaborative teams and data evaluation. Leupp School does experience high turnover, primarily due to distance from Flagstaff, so an emphasis is placed on supporting teachers with three or fewer years experience. A district mentor is assigned to first-year teachers. FUSD provides a financial stipend to Leupp teachers because of the distance from Flagstaff. 4 Strengthen Instruction for Students Modified School Calendar Leupp School utilizes a modified calendar to shorten the summer break, provide a one-week fall intersession, and increase instructional time by three hours per week. The Friday schedule has been restructured to increase the tier 1 instructional delivery time. 1 TurnPrin-3, David Dirksen, Mary K Walton Professional Development: Curriculum & Assessment Ongoing training is provided for all staff in AIMSweb and Synergy benchmark assessments, RTI and the schoolwide intervention programs. Title I funds are also set-aside to support professional development activities such as ADE conferences and coursework for certified staff and paraprofessionals. 6 Intervention Program for Struggling Students Increased Instructional Time Increase direct instructional time by: (1) special area classes have been evenly distributed throughout the week. This provides students with increased instruction time on Fridays. CT's are embedded consistently during the week; (2) increase instructional time by three hours per school week; (3) provide one-week intersession classes during fall break. 3 Title-I, TurnPrin-3, Mary K Walton Response to Intervention Struggling students receive an additional 3 minutes of small group instruction through RTI for math and reading, dependent on individual student needs/data using research based methods. Schoolwide, the intervention times were adjusted to create smaller intervention groups. Tier II and III interventions are provided by the Instructional Specialist, Instructional Interventionist and the Instructional Aide for non-special education students and by the special education teacher for identified special education students. All data collection, facilitation of group data meetings and collaborative time is facilitated by a full-time Instructional Specialist. TurnPrin-5, Mary K Walton After-School Enrichment After-school programming is provided three hours per day, Monday-Thursday, includes homework assistance and enrichment activities. 7 Intervention Program for Struggling Students Extended Learning--Summer Students identified as in need of interventions in Reading will be invited to attend a three-week intensive Club Read summer school, utilizing target support improvement funds. The district will provide free transportation and access to an extended day recreational and enrichment program to encourage consistent attendance. Title-I, TS, TurnPrin-3 Instructional Interventionist Leupp School has an Instructional Interventionist position. This person provides intensive interventions to students identified as most in need using assessment data and teacher recommendations. The person in this position also provides Tier III interventions to students that have not been identified as special education. TurnPrin-5 Data Driven Decision Making Utilize AIMSWeb and Synergy benchmark and progress monitoring data in weekly Collaborative Teams for individual student data analysis to inform classroom instruction and intervention activities through RTI. Ongoing Data Evaluation Principal, Instructional Specialist, and Program Specialist meet weekly in CT's with all classroom teachers and paraprofessionals to review data, benchmarks, and classroom and student progress. 8 Data Driven Decision Making No Excuses University Ongoing Professional development training has been provided through Turnaround Schools Institutes and will continue with three on-site visits; rigor and goal setting observations, with training based on those observations. Training involves all school staff (including classroom teachers, paraprofessionals, building administrator, Instructional Specialist), and includes components for intervention, collaboration, data management and assessment. In addition, new staff members will be attending the NEU annual convention in Anaheim in the fall. 1 PD, TS, TurnPrin-4, Mary K Walton Coordinated Services Provide family services to increase involvement in academic learning for students and to support improved attendance. This will include parent notifications of achievement status, attendance, home/school compact and family engagement policy, family service/volunteer and training opportunities, and transition programs for preschool to kindergarten and fifth grade to middle school. Family Services Leupp parents/families are or will be supported by district and school-based services including: 1) Parenting Arizona classes. 2) District Parent Liaison assists with family night activities, translations as needed, and home visits. 3) Leupp Parent Center is staffed by the parent liaison and Parenting Arizona to provide a welcoming and supportive atmosphere for parents to obtain service referrals, bridge the gap between home and school, participate in informal parent support groups, and become involved with school-based service or volunteer efforts. 4) Family Nights/Activities are facilitated monthly to include parent and child group activities and academic and cultural programming. 5) SY16-17 Leupp has been awarded a grant through the Arizona Community Foundation. 1)GED Course Classes, 2)Parenting Classes, 3)Technology Information Class. Our collaboration community partners will be Coconino Community College, Goodwill and the Trans-formative Learning Center. 9 Coordinated Services Transition Services Leupp School provides a preschool classroom for ages 3 to 5, providing a natural progression to enter kindergarten down the hall. Transition services for students moving to the middle school from 5th grade is provided by counselors and teachers assisting students with class scheduling and responses to individual concerns of both parent and child. Leupp's home school liaison continues to work with families and students who have transitioned to the middle school, providing home visits and support onsite at the child's new middle school. TurnPrin-6 Improved Attendance Leupp School will continue to work with the Coconino County Attorney's Office to maintain the ATTEND program which includes parent notification by the attorney for excessive absences. Additionally, a student incentive program to encourage regular attendance is in place. Weekly calls are going out to parents to encourage school support, achievement, and attendance. Parent Liaison supports families with tracking attendance and providing support as needed. Sports have been added to the after school programming to encourage students to attend school so they can participate. The staff is also analyzing the attendance trends to identify reasons for poor attendance. TurnPrin-6 1 Plan Development, Implementation & Evaluation The District and school work collaboratively to develop and update the Continuous Improvement Plan to address site-specific needs and implementation of each component. The plan is revised at least once annually, with appropriate revisions and additions made during FY16 to support the Focus School designation.
