3 About your teacher: My name is Mrs. Baldwin and I am excited to be your sixth grade ELA teacher this school year. I was born and raised in Winchester, Virginia. This is my seventeenth year in education. I have taught sixth grade, K-5, response to intervention, and literacy. I attended Lee University, in Cleveland, Tennessee for my Bachelor s Degree, which is in Human Development/ Elementary Education. I graduated from Liberty University with my Master s Degree in Education/ Teaching and Learning. I am married to Van, who is a football coach at SEHS. I have two little boys. Coby is four years old. Carson is one year old. I like to sing, travel, read, and take pictures. I love to watch as kids learn new things. I am looking forward to working with you this school year.

4 My Philosophy of Behavior Management: I believe that all students have the ability and the right to learn in a safe and effective learning environment. I also believe that teachers have the right to teach in a safe and effective learning environment. I believe that students thrive in a class where they receive praise and encouragement. My classroom will be a place where my students receive support and praise, as well as structure and positive reinforcement. Students will be taught class guidelines, routines, and procedures on the first day of school. They will be expected to consistently follow these guidelines, at or above a sixth grade level. When a student has difficulty following a class rule, he or she will receive a warning, and the rule will be reviewed with the student. Further disciplinary actions will be taken if necessary, according to the class behavior plan. Parents will be informed of all student behavior throughout the school week.

8 Throughout this school year, you will participate in class through many activities. It will be very important for you to learn and apply the guidelines and procedures of our classroom.

12 Homework each night= Students will need to review the notes that we discuss in class each day. Student graded papers will be sent home each week. Please look over them with your child as a review.

13 Calls and notes home to parents to share good news Free Time Class reward parties Reward certificates Reward passes Praise from the teacher Marble Jar- Each class period will receive marbles to place in a jar. When the jar is full, the class will receive a reward. Marbles may be given for positive behavior or when the class receives a compliment from another teacher, etc.

14 Procedures For Times Outside of the Classroom : Morning/ Breakfast- Please go to breakfast as soon as you arrive so that you have time to return to homeroom before literacy block. You will need a pass to go to breakfast. Hand Clap- I will clap a rhythm to get everyone s attention. When you hear the clap, Please clap the rhythm back to me. Restroom- Students will use the restroom located near the classroom. We will take class restroom breaks throughout the day. If you have an emergency during the day, you may go to the bathroom with a pass. Passes- You must have a pass if you are leaving the classroom during the day, except when leaving as a whole group.

15 Outside Procedures Con t. Lunch- At lunch time, the students who have lunch boxes will line up first. Students eating school lunch will be called to line up next. They will quietly enter the lunch room, then sit at our team tables. If the student is buying lunch, he or she will walk through the line of their choice, then walk to his/ her seat. Students will be allowed to whisper while eating and may raise their hands if they need additional help during lunch time. Hallways- Students will need to walk on the right side of the hall, with quiet mouths and bodies. Hands should be placed at students sides, without touching others or the walls.

16 Con t. Lining up- Students will be given numbers for line order. When their number is called, the students will line up. We will also line up by table groups at times. Dismissal- Please be sure that your learning area is clean before leaving our room each day. Homeroom- All passes will be collected. Each period, you will line up according to which class you are going to next. End of the day- all trash will be cleaned off the desks and floors. Students will walk quietly to their dismissal areas.

17 What About Procedures for Emergencies? Fire Drills- Students will line up quietly and immediately in line order when they hear the alarm. They will walk out the side door to the class designated area (silent voices). We go out the end doors by our room, then turn right to go to the field. Tornado Drills- Students will line up quietly and immediately when they hear the announcement. They will walk to the middle of the hallway and get into tornado drill position (sit on knees, head down at the wall). Students will sit quietly during the drill. Lock-Down- If there is an intruder in the building or near the building, the students will proceed with lock-down procedures in their classrooms and the building will be secured.
