1 Saint Anthony Catholic School Alumni Newsletter October 2015 Visit us at Alumni, we missed you. As the start of a new school year is upon us, we would like to take some time to let you know we are thinking of you. During this exciting time our students reunite with fellow students and teachers, ready to quench their thirst for knowledge. We are happy to have them back to follow in your footsteps and participate in the long legacy of Saint Anthony Catholic School. Welcome all to the school year, glad to have you with us! Hello Alumni, Fall is upon us, the season is changing. It is a chance to remember our blessings, the strength we get from our challenges and the things that make us laugh. It is a time to think about how we gave to our community, the blessings we received from our community, and all that unite us. I am grateful for the past generations that had the commitment to build this beautiful church and school. We continue to honor traditions that started long ago. We remember generations that had a devotion to Catholic education, one that runs strong and continues to grow at Saint Anthony Catholic School today. Our legacy and all our traditions are represented by all of you. As the school year began, we welcomed Mr. Jolly and Ms. Cerrone to our Jr. High staff. Ms. Cummings is our Curriculum Coordinator. New to our art staff for K-5th Grade is Ms. Sikaczowski. Student enrichment welcomes Mrs. Pyle and Mrs. Smallwood. We also welcome a new teacher aide, Mrs. Morgan. This school year we are devoted to our dedication to expand technologically, further enhancing our math programs, and introducing our new science lab. New programs are allowing our students many opportunities to explore and discover. I am thankful for my blessings every day; Father Grady, our staff, our parents, students and of course... our Alumni. Mrs. Terry Maus Principal Achieve More. Then and now the history of our school flashes before our eyes!...recognize Anyone? SACS Boys Basketball 2007 Who I see... RJ Bucknell University 2015

6 Recognize anyone?
7 Alumni Relations at Saint Anthony Catholic School would like to congratulate and take a moment to recognize Alumnus Jordan Trumbore, from our graduating class of 2012, for receiving both the 2015 Broward County Non-Public Schools Pinnacle Award and the Knights of Columbus Statewide Altar Server of the Year Award for Broward, Dade and Monroe counties. These awards are a few of the many accomplishments Jordan has achieved in his life acknowledging his accomplishments as a student, volunteer and an outstanding member of our community. Jordan is a Saint Anthony success story that continues to set the bar higher and make us proud of the role this community school has had in his upbringing. Jordan is a very accomplished student currently attending Cardinal Gibbons High School, set to graduate in I had the pleasure of getting to know Jordan better when I was able to talk with his Mother Jacqueline, an extremely kind, compassionate, hard-working single mother. Jordan attended Saint Anthony Catholic School from Pre- K 4 through 8th grade. His Father passed away in a tragic boating accident when Jordan was just 4 years old, shortly after the loss of his grandfather. With family in Pittsburgh these events caused Jacqueline to lean on the Catholic education she chose for her son. Jacqueline talks about these difficult times and how the support of our beloved church and school and her faith got her through it all. Today, Jordan is a very well-rounded and talented individual. His interests are broad, ranging from basketball and other sports to history and literature. Being the high achiever that he is, he's received awards in just about all his academics and extracurricular interests and activities. I learned a lot about Jordan, that can't really be explained in one word. Jordan enjoys art, music, theater, travel, even flying himself. Jordan is adventurous, not afraid to try new things and certainly not one to settle for falling short of conquering goals. You can't really talk about Jordan without mentioning his faith and desire to help others less fortunate because it is a huge part of who he is. When Jordan attended our school he received various scholarships from the Saint Anthony Foundation for Education (S.A.F.E). He was the recipient of the Father Timothy Hannon Scholarship Award, given to him because he was thought to be most like Father Hannon. Being humble and serving others are important values in the Trumbore home, these are things Jordan learned here at Saint Anthony Catholic Church and School. When Jordan is asked of a teacher or mentor that inspired Jordan during his time at Saint Anthony, he mentions Joseph Sharkey who was his confirmation sponsor in 8th Grade. Mr. Sharkey helped fortify Jordan's faith in God during his middle school years. The two shared things in common as Mr. Sharkey was from Scotland. Both had a love for Scotland and Jordan would like to study there someday. Jordan's mom remembers how Mr. Sharkey always looked out for Jordan. Jordan describes his time at Saint Anthony as making him a better person. Pat Solenski is another example that Jordan was always in good hands. Jacqueline speaks highly of Mrs. Solenski and talks of how instrumental her religious guidance still plays a role in Jordan's life. Jordan has been an Altar Server for many years and has progressed in his service with the Saint Anthony's Knights of Columbus, now a Second Degree Knight. Inspired by youth, Jordan is dedicated to a Squire program at Cardinal Gibbons High School. Most recently, Jordan has been given the honor of becoming a Eucharistic Minister. At times, he serves Mass multiple times a day. Jordan aspires to be a Biomedical Engineer and wishes to make prosthetics for the military. He would also like to attend a graduate engineering course in Military Engineering/Weapons at the University of Glasgow in Scotland. Described by his mother as her "rock" and by his peers as being loyal, smart, honest and peaceful...we know Jordan will make it far in life. We wish you all the best on your spiritual journey and all the quests you set out to conquer. Thank you for leading by example, carrying on the tradition of a Catholic education and never forgetting to give back to your community.
