Then when you visit our classrooms, you can see more of the amazing talent we have in visual arts. Great job students and teachers, your classrooms are inspirational. Come in and check out our hall artwork during one of our school assemblies. The next K-2 Assembly is on today, and the next 3-6 Assembly will be held next week. Class Attendance trophy The school distributes a class attendance trophy to the class with the best attendance from the previous week. That class receives the trophy for the week and also gets a certificate to display in their room. KS have won the award for 4 weeks in a row now, with only 2 absences for the class, for the term so far, an amazing feat. Please send your child to school every day that they can possibly be here. It is vital that their attendance, and indeed their learning, is consistent. Statements of Account Within the next week, each family will receive a statement of account which will include 2018 General School Contributions, Life Education in Term 3 for Year K-4, Visiting Show in Term 4 for all students, Year 4 Sydney excursion, Y5 Great Aussie Bush Camp. There will be other excursions throughout the year, such as Canberra for Year 6 and Sydney for Year 3, however costs for these excursions have not yet been finalised. Payments can be made by EFTPOS, cash, cheque or via the Make a Payment link on the school s website. 2 Children s University 20+ students in Year 5 have entered the Children s University program, coordinated by University of Newcastle. These students will now begin the task of registering 30 hours of learning OUTSIDE school, to be eligible to graduate at the end of the year. Students will have until September 26 th to register their 30 hours. The school library will be set up as a hub for students for students to register hours during their lunch break, by completing online tasks. For more information, please visit Swim School Year 2 students have been enjoying their time at Swimming School this week and will continue the program into next week. Thank you to the teachers and parents for coordinating this so smoothly. Newcastle Permanent donation Thank you to the Newcastle Permanent for their donation of $1800 from their Introducer program that donates $300 to a selected organisation every time someone takes out a home loan. Thank you to the community for this wonderful donation. This donation will go towards the design of a playground activity space in the kindergarten area in the near future. PSSA Cricket Our school Cricket team played a game against Singleton Public school yesterday. The boys played well and demonstrated great sportsmanship but unfortunately were defeated. Harmony Day 21 st March Our school will be celebrating Harmony Day on Wednesday, 21 st March. Harmony Day celebrates Harmony Day celebrates Australia s cultural diversity. It s about inclusiveness, respect and a sense of belonging for everyone. Students will be able to come to school dressed in orange, they will participate in a whole school picnic lunch on the back field, and classes will buddy up and participate in cultural activities for the afternoon session. Easter Scripture Assembly All students who participate in Special Religious Education lessons will be able to attend the Easter Scripture Assembly on Tuesday, 27 th March, from 9:30am. New School Shirt Unfortunately our second order for the new polo shirts, from Flanagan s menswear, has been delayed. We hope to have the new stock in at school by the start of Term 2. We have made a second order that will arrive at the same time, so we will have double the stock we anticipated. I am sorry for the inconvenience, it was anticipated we would have these in by March, but the manufacturer was delayed. 2

3 Easter Hat Parade Our school Easter Hat Parade will be held on Thursday, 29 th March, the last day of school before the four day Easter break. The parade will be for all students, K-6, and students in K-2 will be asked to bring in their most creative Easter hat to wear in the parade. K-2 students will also be performing several creative pieces, prior to the parade starting. Kindergarten students will march with their Year 6 buddies. Students in Years 3 to 6 are invited to make a hat, basket or poster to parade in during the morning. The parade will begin at 11.35am. P&C Easter Raffle The P&C will be holding an Easter Raffle in the coming weeks. We are asking families to donate an Easter Egg or two, to contribute to the prizes. Please bring in your donation to the front office for collection. Let s chip in and create some great prizes! The P&C will also donate a basket of eggs to Alory House, as part of family contributions. Start bringing them in. Winners will be drawn following the Easter Hat Parade. Easter Break The school will break from Thursday, 29 th March until Tuesday, 3 rd April, when all students return. Parent Teacher Interviews Our new format parent teacher interviews were held after school last Tuesday in the hall. It was wonderful to see such a great turn out from parents and the feedback from all involved has been very positive. My name is Jessica Leyshon and I am the School Chaplain. You may be wondering what my role as a Chaplain actually is! Very simply I am here to give support, encouragement, help and a listening ear to students, staff and parents/carers. If you or your child could use a friendly ear, I am available at the school on Tuesday and Thursday 9am -2pm. Watch this space for encouraging and exciting information. 5 On Friday March 16th we are holding a special Irish day to celebrate St Patricks Day. Our recess menu will be coloured orange or green as much as possible plus decorations around the canteen. It s something different for our students and I am sure that they will enjoy it. On Thursday 29, to coincide with the schools Easter Hat Parade, we will be making our recess food in the Easter theme. A menu will be sent home with the newsletter. Lunch will be as normal. We have been very fortunate to have parents popping into the canteen to help for which we are very grateful. It is wonderful to see the smiles on their students faces when they see mum, dad or grandma in the canteen helping. This is the reward for volunteering at school. Breakfast Club At Februarys P and C meeting, it was decided that we need to come up with ideas to sustain Breakfast Club: * Contact Bunnings to request running a Bunnings BBQ if any dates are free If any member of the school community wishes to help Breakfast Club in any way, please contact the canteen.
