Emma has had plenty of experience volunteering in schools and also in managing school canteens. She is keen to get our canteen up and running and to work with our parent (and grandparent) volunteers to make the school canteen a happy and healthy option for our families. (I know the staff I m so excited to open next week and start meeting you all! The Canteen is starting off slowly - there are many different things to organise and learn in a new school. So while you may think that the Menu is smaller than it was, I can assure you it won t stay that way for long. Following the Right Bite Strategy is a DECD Staffing News are all looking forward to the reopening too!) Welcome also to Toni. Toni Styman is a fifth generation Australian with ancestors from many nations. (An Aussie bitsa!) She has helped students in maths, spelling, reading comprehension, science, art, writing and research. As a book lover she is familiar with many of the library s books and is able to recommend ones that will meet student s needs. Toni has mainly worked with junior primary students but Canteen news expectation (and part of my contract) and I must do it properly from the beginning. Putting together a menu that follows the guidelines and working together with your children to put more food on the menu that they want will take some conversation and time. Aside from that, the next most important part of running the Canteen is F E B R U A R Y 2 3 R D enjoys working with older students as well. In the library she works as a stock taker, shelver, cataloguer, displayer, repairer, listener, cleaner and learner. Toni is a hard worker, enjoys finding out new things and meeting new people. She has worked at Lockleys Primary, Coromandel Valley Primary, Port Noarlunga Primary and Reynella College. the volunteer input. The more help I can get from the adults in the community the sooner the Canteen starts to move from strength to strength. So PLEASE consider volunteering. 2 P A G E 2 School uniform update A total of 167 responses were received Governing Council has considered the response to the survey monkey conducted in late 2017 in relation to a potential change in school uniform. A total of 167 responses were received and while there was some positive support for a change to a darker top, there were also some concerns raised about affordability. The Governing Council has concluded that there is currently no compelling reason to consider a change in uniform at this time. School uniforms can be purchased from the School Uniform Shop Mondays am, Wednesdays pm and Fridays am or through the QKR app which may be more convenient. The school will re-stock iron-on Seacliff Primary School logos and will advise via the newsletter when these are back in stock. Clare Coupar For and on behalf of the Governing Council. Meet the Teacher Evening and Community Barbeque Feedback from this evening was overwhelmingly positive from parents and staff. Thanks must go to all of the staff (and some long time volunteers!) who contributed to the success of this event, and to the families who came along to the teacher information sessions and the community barbeque that followed. There were some wonderful salads and sweets to complement the sausage sizzle! It was a terrific turnout despite the heat and my only regret was that I didn t think to take some photos to share with you in this newsletter. All Seacliff school staff will be involved in professional learning and curriculum development meetings at various schools throughout this area. As the March 13th date is fast approaching, please make childcare arrangements if necessary. P A G E 3 E D U C A T I O N A L L E A D E R S D A Y A N D T H E D E C D S T R A T E G I C P L A N Last Friday I attended an Education Leaders Day in the city with most Principals and Preschool Directors from around South Australia in attendance. Sessions covered how schools can work towards achieving the aspirational goal of becoming a world class system. The Department for Education and Child Development Strategic Plan (PDF 609KB) outlines public education s priorities, accountabilities and commitment Welcome to Lexi Rose Litchfield (pictured here with big sister Evie) born last Wednesday and all doing well. to building capability in 6 fundamental areas that have created impact in successful education systems around the world. The areas are: expert teaching quality leadership engaged parents and communities stronger services resourcing and investment Congratulations Lexi arrived 3 weeks earlier than expected and weighed in at 3.2kgs. Congratulations to Chanele, Chad and Evie on the new addition to their family improvement and accountability. I found the day tremendously useful, (even inspirational!) and was heartened to see the way in which DECD goals, Marion Coast Partnership goals and our own Seacliff School Improvement Plan goals were brought into alignment. SRC Representatives Congratulations to the class representatives on the SRC. They represent all of the students in their class and will be asked to make important decisions relating to our school on their behalf. Some of the roles of a SRC Class Rep: Represent all other students in the school and act as their voice Convey information, suggestions and concerns from your class as discussed in class meetings Provide leadership in school events Organise special events such as fund raisers through casual days (one per term) Provide ideas and suggestions relating to whole school projects e.g. upgrades to the school environment.

4 P A G E 4 If you would like to register your child in one, two or all of the competitions, please complete an entry form, available from the office, and return it to school by Wednesday 14th March T H E U N I V E R S I T Y O F N E W S O U T H WA L E S I C A S C O M P E T I T I O N S Each year our school enters students in the University of New South Wales International Competitions and Assessments (ICAS) program. Entry into the competition allows students to compare their performance and achievement with other similar aged students right across Australia. Participation in the competitions is recognised with a Certificate, while High Achievement gets special recognition. All participants also receive a detailed analysis of their results, showing areas of success and areas for further development. Our school participates in the Digital Technologies, Science, Writing, Spelling, English and Maths competitions which are appropriate for students from Years 2 to 7. Year 2 students are only eligible to enter the Maths, Science, Spelling and English competitions. We still have our awesome Arcade Zone with our super fun air hockey table and soccer table. We would like to thank everyone Our room renovations are complete and we are back in our awesome new OSHC room! We are very excited to put our new pinboards to use and decorate our walls with bright and exciting colours and all of the creations the children make. We have set up a fantastic Junior Primary area which all the children are loving so far, with mini cubbies, dress ups, white board, books, toys and more! A 5,6,7 HEAVEN has been set up for the year 5, 6 and 7 students, allowing them to have their own for their patience and understanding during our relocation to the hall! How is it nearing the end of week 4 already! Keep your eyes posted for the upcoming Vacation Care programhopefully it is out by week 6!
