Broderick, Jr., Mayor October Newsletter City of Anderson 120 E. 8th Street Anderson, Indiana (765) Fall has officially begun and the colder weather is here to prove it, but there are still many activities and impactful events coming up for our citizens to enjoy during the season. Our Fall Break Camp will be held from October 8 th October 19 th. Throughout this camp, our Anderson kids are provided lunch every day and go on exciting field trips, such as roller skating, bowling, the pumpkin patch and an Indiana Fever Game. The 3 rd Annual Mayor s Ball will be held on October 6 th at the Paramount Theatre. This event goes towards grants for teachers to organize projects outside the scope of traditional instruction. Last year, the Mayor s Charity Ball gave away $40,000 to 40 very deserving educators. The city has set annual trick or treat hours for Halloween night from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Also, the Anderson Police Department Annual Trunk or Treat will be held at Dickmann Park on October 26 th. 2 The Walk to End Alzheimer s took place on Sunday September 23 rd at Hoosier Park Racing and Casino. A large crowd gathered and raised flowers to show their support and raise awareness for Alzheimer s disease. Mayor Broderick speaks with event walkers. The Financial Enhancement Group, LLC held a grand opening and ribbon cutting on September 19 th to celebrate their newly built facility on Enterprise Rd. The City of Anderson and the Madison County Chamber of Commerce were on hand to express their appreciation to the company. For Information on Financial Enhancement Group, LLC and talk about Your Life After Work, please visit their website: Primrose Retirement Communities celebrated their 30-year anniversary with Mayor Broderick presented to Primrose Retirement Community a certificate of recognition of their 10 th anniversary in the community. Several residences joined in the celebration. 2

3 Mayor Broderick and the Board of Works announced that Bestway Disposal will be picking up leaves this fall season starting October 1 st through December 14 th. Pick up will be early morning the day after regular trash pick up. Materials eligible for collection are leaves, grass clippings, weeds, brushes and tree branches. All materials must be securely placed in biodegradable bags (no plastic), reusable containers or bound in bundles. All containers need to be within four feet of the curbside or alley. Branches can be no larger than three inches in diameter. Bundles can be no longer than four feet long or weigh more than 50 pounds. Trash bags will be given away at the Water Pollution Control compost site located at 2000 W. 8 th St. and at Anderson City Hall located at 120 E. 8 th St. Mayor Broderick stated, This is a continuation of our efforts to assist our citizens to being able to maintain an attractive city for our residents and visitors. Mayor Broderick's renovation of Horne Park located at 7th and John St. has begun! The improvements on the park will include a new shelter house, a picnic table, a 3 bay swing, a grill, a typhoon slide, a bumblebee spring rider, and park benches. The newly renovated park will serve all age groups for our community. Mayor Broderick said, This is a continuation of our work to upgrade our parks that provide quality of place for our citizens. We have been making ongoing improvements in our parks during the last 2 years, including upgrades to Belmont, Walnut, Streety, Geater, Shadyside, Pulaski, and Jackson Parks. Community Block Grant Funds were used for the improvements saving general tax dollars. 3

4 Mayor Broderick will present the 2018 Fall Break Camp beginning October 8 th! During this program, Anderson kids will receive lunch, t-shirts and go on exciting field trips. The field trip featured below is from last year s fall break camp when the children went to the pumpkin patch. Mayor Broderick also holds a Summer Break Camp and Spring Break Camp. 5 During the Citywide Latino Celebration, Mayor Broderick presented two scholarships to deserving students choosing colleges in our community. The recipients are Citlali Rodriguez and Aaron Diaz. One student will be attending Ivy Tech Community College and the other will be attending Anderson University. The event included a Mariachi Band, food and many vendors form our local organizations. Mayor Broderick and his team have been demolishing houses all around the city of Anderson to make our community an attractive place to live and visit. 6 Mayor Broderick will host the 3 rd Annual Mayor s Charity Ball benefiting Anderson students on October 6 th. Last year, the Mayor s Charity Ball raised over $40,000 and gave 40 grants to Anderson teachers to create projects and programs to get their students excited about learning and their futures. This year, this enchanting event will be held on October 6 th and tickets are $100 each and sponsorships are also available. There will be a silent and live auction, food, drinks and dancing to an exciting band. All the proceeds will go toward the teacher grant program. The event is aimed to show appreciation for our first responders in our Anderson Police and Fire Departments. The Anderson Township Trustee Youth Center will be hosting an open house on October 25 th to celebrate the expansion of their facility. The Anderson Township Trustee Youth Center, in partnership with the City of Anderson provides after school programs for children, as well as meals and tutoring. The expansion will include a 3-basketball court field house and a walking track for all ages.
