3 GENERAL Marist College Ashgrove Cross Country Information 2013 Part I General Information 1. Marist College Ashgrove has a proud history of involvement in TAS and now AIC cross country competition over many years. We have been Champions- 2008,2009 and our most recent successes and we look forward to continuing this success in The cross country season commences on Monday March 25 th with our traditional Fun Runs. Boys are able to attend on any one of the four days (Monday 25 th to Thursday 28 th ) (only one, except for the year 12 s) bus transport will be provided back to school. Boys who attend these runs are signing on and committing themselves to the AIC Cross Country season. All those who attend will receive a ticket to go into a raffle to win a sports gear voucher from our sponsors- The Run Inn at Alderley. 3. Our main events are: - Selected AIC/QA meets, King of the Mountain series, Met North Trials, Term 2 and 3AIC lead-up carnivals and the Alexandra Headlands Camp. A number of team breakfasts will be held throughout the season, as well as our traditional pre-aic lunch, held in the Cyprian Pavilion. 4. This year holiday training will be conducted during the Easter and June holiday. Some training will be held at outside venues and some at the college, please refer to program for full details. 5. To obtain all the information regarding the Marist College Ashgrove Cross Country Program please visit our web site: 6. You need to collect a program of events either at the sign- on runs or from Mr Lehman. You can also sign on by attending our regular training sessions during the season. Please complete and sign the Cross Country Agreement (tear off last page) and return them to either Mr Mulvihill or Mr Lehman. ORGANISATION 7. 4 CROSS COUNTRY PROGRAMME The Cross Country programme for 2013 is shown in Part II. It contains a list of events that boys could be involved in throughout the season some are compulsory Not ALL EVENTS. AGE CHAMPIONS 9. The age champions will be decided on AIC Championship day first past the post. There will also be trophies or medals (one per age group for each category) for: team spirit (for the whole season) and a courage award (based on AIC Championship day). A coveted, single team award for team spirit, commitment and leadership- the Desha Joseph Trophy- is also presented after the AIC carnival. TRAINING 10. a. sessions are on:- Monday,Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday at 6.30 am (Warm-up) for 6.45 am Start ASSEMBLE at the CHAMPAGNAT CENTRE UNLESS NOTIFIED OF CHANGE. b. It is possible to combine Cross Country with other sports or with private coaches. Simply talk with Mr Moniz or Mr Mctaggart to work out a program. If you have the desire to be involved, it is possible to work out an agreement/plan with your long term involvement with all sports in mind. c. You are to record all of your training sessions by using one of the recommended mobile phone apps available. d. Breakfast is available, each morning, at the boarder s dining room at a reasonable price (usually $3). We have some organized team breakfasts. e. Commitment and effort at training will be recognised, in an appropriate way, on a fortnightly basis at Friday assemblies. CROSS COUNTRY SINGLETS/ TEAM SHIRTS 11. Boys who wish to run at AIC events are asked to buy a singlet at the start of the season. Running shorts, must be, the correct college type, available for purchase from the college Clothing Shop. Team shirts will be presented to the various age groups at the camp, at the beginning of Term 3. CONCLUSION 12. In conclusion, the 2013 Cross Country season will be both demanding and enjoyable. Our success has been built on having a large number of athletes training consistently as a team, combined with an excellent record of attendance at trials and organized meets. We need to build on this for VIRILITER AGE RUN COURAGEOUSLY!!!

5 Cross Country Information 2012 Cross Country Programme Part II Eligibility Criteria for the College AIC Cross Country Team. All athletes are required to conform to all sections of the Marist College Ashgrove Code of Conduct. All athletes are expected to involve themselves fully with the squad training group. It is not an expectation that ALL Athletes would be able to attend ALL of the events listed in the 2013 program. It is our hope, that the boys will attend as many events as possible, given the many commitments they have. For example, those boys representing the college in other sports might need to modify their attendance due to the commitments required for those sports. There will be injuries, illness and so on. Coaches will take into account all of these factors when making team selections. GENERAL GUIDELINES for AIC TEAM SELECTION Boys not involved with other AIC SPORTS, are encouraged to attend three sessions per week Boys involved in other AIC sports, are encouraged to attend two sessions per week Performance at Designated Time Trials Individual plan as approved by Head Coaches- Cross Country Performance at AIC INVITATIONAL Meets Performance at QA, All Schools and Regional meets A training attendance record is kept; those athletes who do not meet the minimum standard expected, taking into account injury, illness and other AIC sports and study commitments will not be selected. Selection is earned by your effort and commitment to the team, performance at time trials and AIC meets. ATTENDANCE RECORD All athletes are to register each of their training attendances on the roll taken during the warm up session at the Champagnat Centre on training mornings. PLEASE SIGN OUT WHEN SESSION IS COMPLETE

8 Cross Country Information 2011 Part V Camp Information This year, the annual Camp at the Alexandra Park Conference Centre will be held on the first weekend of Term 3 Saturday the 13 th July and Sunday 14 th July, The change for 2013 is that, we will first attend the AIC trial meet at St Patricks Shorncliffe at Curlew Park, and then travel to the Alexandra Headlands Conference Centre for our team camp. It is important for those boys wanting to be selected to represent the college at AIC to attend the camp, as it allows each age group to participate in a number of different activities under the direction of the senior leaders. As well, squad members are presented with their team shirts and come together in their final preparations for the AIC Championships held at Limestone Park, Ipswich on the 3 rd August, The activities will be different from past years, taking into account the trial run the boys have already participated in at St Patricks. We would anticipate leaving Marist College at 7 am on Saturday morning (13 th July), and returning to the college by about 3.30pm on Sunday afternoon. We hope to take approximately sixty boys on camp- twelve boys from each age groupto assist with our final preparations for the AIC Cross Country Championships on the 3 rd August at Ipswich. We do have some flexibility with the numbers and can include other boys who, by their commitment and dedication to the team, can be invited to attend. The boys selected, will be given a letter confirming their selection for the camp towards the end of Term 2. They will also receive a camp information booklet at this time, detailing the program of activities and travel arrangements.

9 Cross Country Information 2012 Part VI Athletics Agreement Cross Country This agreement is to certify that.... (name of student) is aware of the commitment and responsibilities associated with the opportunity to play sport at the College as part of the College s Sporting Program. The above mentioned student needs to be aware that as condition of enrolment (point E) the College expects if a student has ability in a sport and this sport is offered by the College he would be expected to contribute by representing the College. Participation in College teams takes precedence over club fixtures. Commitment to a team, squad or sport means: - 1. Meeting on a regular basis the set training times in accordance with the detailed eligibility criteria. 2. Availability for all designated meets (see program) throughout the season unless exceptional circumstances prohibit this (sickness and injury excluded). Athletes are required to be available for long weekends and boarders weekends. 3. Abide by College policies that exist for all other aspects of College life. i.e. Safe School Policy 4. Wear correct and specified uniform to and from carnivals and compete in matches, trials or carnivals in set College playing attire. 5. Abide by the Code of Conduct for Sport as published in the College Diary on p.23. Breaches will result in disciplinary action that may include exclusion from training / carnivals. Serious breaches will involve the Head of School. 6. RESPECT your opponent, coach, official, spectators and the rules of the game. Good sportsmanship should be reflected by playing the game in the spirit of the game. This includes shaking your opponents hand at the conclusion of games/races/meets. Respect of College facilities and equipment as per directions given by a member of the College Sporting program is also paramount. 7. Foul and inappropriate language will not be tolerated. 8. Selection and eligibility for selection of teams will be under the direction of the appointed coaches and in accordance with the detailed selection criteria. The College has a long and proud tradition of sporting success built largely on the pride, spirit and good sportsmanship displayed by past students. The manner in which both individuals and teams play the game is essential to fostering an environment of enjoyment and success, irrespective of winning or losing. Personal Details: Signed:..
