Mr Kerry Swann Contact Person Principal s Foreword Introduction Xavier Catholic College is a P-12 coeducational College owned and administered by Brisbane Catholic Education. The College is a member of the Australian Jesuit Schools Network as a Jesuit Partner School and the World wide Network of over 2 Jesuit Universities and Schools. The site is situated within the Catholic Parish of Hervey Bay City and is located in Wide Bay Drive, Eli Waters, Hervey Bay. The College opened in 23 with ninety Year 8 students. In our total enrolment was 1131 students in Prep to Year 6 and Year With the addition of Year 7 in 211, the College will then cater for all year levels from Prep to Year 12. The master plan caps growth to a 3 stream Primary operation and 5 streams of secondary. 2 Curriculum offerings Our distinctive curriculum offerings The College takes its name from St Francis Xavier, who along with St Ignatius of Loyola, was one of the founders of the Society of Jesus, the Jesuits. We have adopted Ignatian spirituality as the basis for the ethos and culture of Xavier Catholic College; therefore, our distinctive curriculum offerings are characterised by the following: There is no learning without the learners activity. No action without motivation. Mastery is attained by using, applying, even teaching what has been learned and understood. Strenuous effort: If you really want something, you will use the means to get it, so there is no growth possible either in religious or secular learning without strenuous effort. Education based on Ignatian spirituality seeks excellence, where individuals continually strive to be and achieve their very best. The development of critical analysis; the skills of analysing, evaluating and communicating, rather than knowledge for its own sake. An apostolic focus. St Ignatius sought to educate women and men to work for the betterment of others. For this they need to be erudite, generous and and influential. Schools in the Ignatian tradition seek to sustain a tradition which has honed many men and women to be fine instruments of God in the service of others; people of contemplation, competence, conscience, compassion and commitment. Extra curricula activities In keeping with the holistic nature of Catholic education, there are many activities outside the classroom that help us to provide for the spiritual, physical, intellectual, social and cultural needs of students. 3 How Information and Communication Technologies are used to assist learning A significant aspect of the curriculum of our contemporary College is the access that students have to Information and Communication Technology as a learning resource. This has been enhanced by the following: Commencement of the roll out of laptops to all students from years 9-12 Six Computer Laboratories for use across P-12 Digital Hubs (Data Projector and Smartboard) to all classrooms Prep 8 with a selection of Year 9-12 All areas covered by Wireless Technology and Optic Fibre to all buildings Fast Broadband Internet Access across P-12 Provision of laptops to all teaching staff Appropriate technical and people support Provision of ongoing teacher professional development Social climate Our mission for the College is to provide a high quality education within our Catholic tradition where all are engaged in their learning, challenged and motivated to do their best. Our aim is to assist the formation of our students to become reflective young men and women of competence, conscience, and compassion with an attitude of excellence and service. Underpinning all that we do is the common belief that as a community we should work in partnership to find Jesus in all things. The religious and spiritual dimensions of the College are supported by an attention to the pastoral care of all who form part of our community. It is respectful of the dignity of every person.
