1 19 July 2018 Welcome Term 3 We would like to welcome all our students, staff and families back for Term 3. During the term our students will be participating in many and varied Learning Activities, Athletics, School Opinion Surveys, Book Fair, Eisteddfod, Kidsing, School Photos, Tournament of Minds, Rock Band Tour, Cheerleading events and much more. We look forward to a productive and fun filled term. (Pat Cavanagh) P. &C. News - Colour Fun Run Thank you to our students, parents and families who helped to make our very first Coolum Colour Run a fabulous success! A special thanks to the teachers, staff, P&C members and parents who assembled and packed up the amazing course, threw colour, and joined in with the children to have a great time. We all had a blast and raised nearly $20,000 along the way. Thank you to all grandparents, work colleagues, neighbours and family members, who contributed to our students' sponsor cards and encouraged their participation. Finally, a giant thanks to our sponsors: Ray White Everton Park, Fletcher's School of Tennis, Rebel Sport, SUP Noosa, Apex Camps, Noosa Civic, Rookies2Reds, Lightning Sunshine Coast, Coolum Cricket Club, Coolum District Netball Association and Adventure Sports. Fundraising to air condition our school... a Coolum State School P&C Association Fundraising Project. (Denise French)
2 News from Prep R Welcome back to term 3! Last term in Prep R, we had an amazing Red Carpet Event. We had security on the door, ticket sellers, popcorn for sale and ushers to show the parents to their seats. Not to mention the fabulous performances by all the prep children! This term we will be creating and reciting our own poems. We will start by practising Nursery Rhymes this week. We are having so much fun with our learning. Keep up the great work Prep R! (From the Prep R team, Miss Storm and Miss Lorri) Red carpet event Prep R Fantastic Foyer display Premier s Reading Challenge Each year Coolum School participates in Premier s Reading Challenge an annual state wide initiative for children. This challenge is not a competition but rather a challenge to improve literacy and encourage children to read widely for pleasure. It is a great opportunity to spark the passion for reading and lifelong learning. The reading challenge will take place between Monday 16 July and Friday 24 August. Your child is challenged to read both fiction and non-fiction books at home or school. P - 2: read or experience 20 books Years 3 & 4: read 20 books Years 5 & 6: read 15 books Further information about this exciting event has been sent home to all families this week. We look forward to supporting your child to travel through the pages of some great books in the coming weeks. (Karen Hatchman) Buddies by Brainstorm Productions On Tuesday 24 July, PREP and Years 1/2/3 will attend the presentation Buddies. Buddies is an anti-bullying program that uses educational theatre to provide simple strategies all children can use to develop positive and healthy friendships. (Maurie Corvisy) Sports News This Sunday we have a team who will represent us at the King of the Mountain in Pomona. We wish them all the best. (Mark Dwyer) On Monday our Junior Boys and Senior Girls soccer teams will be competing in the South East Queensland Championship Sunshine Coast Final at Maroochydore. We wish them all the best. (Brodie Porter)

4 Get Started Vouchers 2018 Get Started Vouchers program opening 25 July Round 12 of the Queensland Government s Get Started Vouchers program will open on 25 July A voucher of up to $150 per calendar year is available for eligible children/young people aged 5 to 17, who hold or whose parent/carer/guardian holds, a valid Centrelink Health Care Card or Pensioner Concession Card. Vouchers are then presented to local sport or active recreation clubs registered for the program to help with the costs for membership. When a child or young person does not have access to a Centrelink Health Care Card/Pensioner Concession Card but the family is in genuine financial need, or if the family does have access to a Centrelink card but is experiencing issues that would prevent them from applying directly (e.g. computer/internet access issues, computer illiteracy or language as a barrier), a referral agent can refer the child to the program. Please ensure that you have created a QGrants account beforehand or logged into your existing account, to ensure that you are ready to apply once the round opens. Watch the How to Apply video to see how to create an account and apply for a voucher. For more information visit Sport and Recreation Services website As the school is a Referral Agent, parents (without a Centrelink Health Care Card/Pensioner Concession Card but your family is in genuine financial need), can contact Chris Chant (Deputy Principal) to register for Get Started Vouchers. I have to send in numbers for vouchers on 31 July. (Chris Chant) Community Notices Tennis with Jamie Fletcher: every day either before or after school. Lots of fun for all ages. Call Jamie:
