3 Exercise and recreation are as necessary as reading. I will rather say more necessary, because health is worth more than learning. (Thomas Jefferson) Vision Statement To be Singapore s premier school for sport; winning national and international competitions, tournaments and festivals, whilst providing competitive sport for the entire student population to enjoy and learn from. Mission Statement To provide a high quality sports programme with both breadth and depth of opportunity for all students to participate enthusiastically and earnestly achieving their natural potential, what-ever that may be. Sporting Values Dulwich College (Singapore) is abbreviated to DCSG. All our students are expected to show the following traits whilst playing sport: Determined Students are determined to try their very best in all situations. Courageous Students have courage to trust their instincts and play without fear. Skilful Students have a passion to improve their technical skills in their chosen sports. Gracious It is an important trait of Dulwich College (Singapore) students to participate, win and lose with a gracious attitude, showing respect for all.
4 Sport at Dulwich College (Singapore) Sport is an integral part of life at Dulwich College (Singapore). Our abbreviation is DCSG and students are encouraged to show Determination, Courage, Skill and a Gracious attitude on a daily basis. We aim to ensure all students aspire to reach their potential in sport, whatever that might be, from international performers (with periodised training programmes and individual mentors) to recreational participants. We provide the best teaching environment for students to acquire a lifelong interest in sport allowing them to develop a healthy, balanced lifestyle which they can take into their adult lives and enjoy the rewards that regularly taking part in sport provides. We encourage and nurture students to take part without fear; developing a positive approach whilst celebrating and acknowledging success in all its forms. All students take part in competitive sport through a well structured House system and any student expressing an interest in representing Dulwich College (Singapore) is encouraged to do so. Touring, taking part in international and local festivals or tournaments, as well as hosting them, is an important part of our programme. It helps to develop resilience and independence for the individuals in our care and provides the opportunity to make friendships and memories that last a lifetime. We are very proud of our sports programme; it inspires and energises everyone to enjoy and be involved with sport. Through taking part students learn to manage both winning and losing with grace and dignity. They work together successfully with people from many different nationalities and cultures to prepare them for the challenges of life in the 21 st Century. We warmly welcome everyone to enjoy sport at Dulwich College (Singapore) and we look forward to greeting opposition and spectators to our school. Kevin Shaw Director of Sport.
5 Our Attitudes: Dulwich College is founded on a history of a child-centered education, with high levels of sports participation. Outstanding academic results achieved through a holistic education and a Can Do approach; the co-curricular and curriculum work in tandem to provide maximum opportunity for students to grow. Students are at the center of their own learning with excellence at the fore-front of every aspect of the education. Whatever is being achieved or delivered is done to the very highest standards. Based on the history of Dulwich College and the environment in Singapore; DCSG will have a focus on team games, whilst individuals focus on our core values of Determination, Skill, Courage and a Gracious attitude. Swimming, and athletics will also be major sports whilst gymnastics will also feature strongly. With the aim of developing well rounded, confident young people, who are fit, healthy and understand the importance of winning and losing with grace and dignity. They will have a strong sense of wanting to work together to benefit others on a global stage. We seek to dominate the school sport scene in Singapore and Asia. Our major team sports of Rugby, Netball, Touch and Football will be available for as many students as possible to enjoy the opportunity to represent their school. We will take part in ACSIS here in Singapore; the Dulwich Games which take place every year for our Junior athletes and the Dulwich Olympiad which occurs every 4 years is also a major feature. Which ever competition and tournament we enter we do so with the goal of doing as well as possible and prepare students to compete without fear and to use the talent they have to the very best of their ability. The Dulwich Olympiad. The Dulwich Olympiad occurs every 4 years. The first event occurred in Beijing in April This is the opportunity for all Dulwich Colleges to come together to compete against each other in a whole range of sports. The next event occurs in London in 2019 and is designed to be part of Dulwich College s 400 th anniversary.
