1 NEWSLETTER TERM 2 WEEK 9 FRIDAY 29TH JUNE 2018 A MESSAGE FROM OUR PRINCIPAL In Acts 2 we read the amazing account of God pouring out of his Holy Spirit on his followers. The outpouring of God s Spirit immediately results in significant events people hearing the gospel proclaimed in their own language, Peter addressing the multitude of people gathered in Jerusalem and many coming to faith and approximately 3000 added to the number of believers. As we study the account of Acts we read of many stories of God s Spirit at work - God using very ordinary people to proclaim the gospel, of men and women being convicted of their sin, repenting and placing their faith in Christ, and the growth of God s church here on earth. We see the Church place its focus clearly on Christ. It is the same Spirit that is at work in believers today bringing us to a point of repentance and faith in Christ. This term it has been encouraging to see God s Spirit at work in our school community as we seek to point our students to Christ and bring glory to him in all things. It has also been very encouraging to read the stories of some of our school Alumni in response to our facebook post (and we look forward to sharing some of these with you in second Semester) and hear how God is using his people to make a difference in his world Enrolments We are currently enrolling for Some places still exist. If you know of someone considering enrolling their child(ren) at ICS in 2019 please encourage them to contact the school office as soon as possible. Farewell This week we farewell Mr Bob Green who will be leaving us to work with The Royal Flying Doctors Service. Bob has served as our IT Manager for the past 3 years. We wish him God s richest blessings in his new position, as he seeks to assist on the communication and IT side of enabling people in remote parts of Australia gain the medical treatment they require. We have recently advertised for this position and hope to have a replacement soon. TENNIS COACHING BEFORE SCHOOL AT ICS David Winley from The Illawarra Tennis Academy will be conducting Hotshots tennis lessons in Term 3 on Tuesday mornings before school 7.30am to 8.30am. These will be held on the new Hotshots tennis courts under the COLA. Cost $10 per lesson, charged by the term. Limited spots available. First Lesson FREE commencing Tuesday 7th August. Phone to book your spot. PRAYER AND PRAISE "Praise be to the Lord, to God our Saviour, who daily bears our burdens." Psalm 68:19 Pray for the health of our students and teachers. Pray for upcoming sporting events, for safely in travel and competition. Give thanks for the new students who are starting with us in Term 3. Pray for preparation of camps coming up early next term. Pray for Japanese students visiting next term that their association with ICS families will be positive and memorable. 2 TERM 2 WEEK 9 FRIDAY 29TH JUNE 2018 LIFE EDUCATION - PARKING CHANGES The Life Education van is visiting our school from Tuesday 26th June Thursday 5th July. During this time the prep car parking spaces will be moved to the eastern side of the top carpark. We apologise for any inconvenience. Mrs Sue David KOSEI JUNIOR HIGH VISIT From the 31st July until the 10th of August, ICS will be hosting a number of students from Kosei Junior High School in Tokyo Japan. We are very excited about this cultural exchange as it enables the Kosei students as well as the ICS students to get to know another culture and make new and lasting friendships. We are in desperate need of families to host 1 or 2 students. The boys are aged from years old and are very much looking forward to getting to know an Australian family. Many of the items have no name. Please check for any misplaced belongings. Items that have names are being returned to students and any lost property that has not been collected by the end of the term will be donated. SCHOOL BUS ROUTE NUMBER CHANGES All Premier Illawarra school route numbers will be changed from Monday 2 July This will ensure that school buses are easily identifiable. All new school bus route numbers are easily identifiable. All new school bus route numbers will start with a capital 'S' and will be followed by a new three digit bus number. If you have any further queries please contact Transport for NSW directly on WORKING BEE DATES Each school family is rostered on for one working bee per year with the class of their youngest child, however, you may attend any of the working bees. Time: 8.30am am except for the make up date which is 2pm-5pm. Dates for 2018: 25th August (Years 1 & 2) 15th September (Years 7 & 8) 17th November (Years 3 & 4) 8th December (Make up date) Signmee notes are sent when families are rostered on. ICS CAREERS WEBSITE Our aim is to provide you with all the latest information that will help you make decisions about your future career and your life beyond school. You can use this site to locate a range of courses in Australia, including university and TAFE courses. There is also information about the HSC and search for job vacancies. SCHOOL CAFE (WITH ONE) Our cafe, With One, is open for business on Tuesdays and Thursdays 8.30am 9.30am for parents, staff and senior students. Coffee, hot chocolate, chai, mocha, tea available $3 each or $2.50 when you bring your own cup. ICS cups now available for $10 with a free coffee. K 12 SCHOOL PHOTOS K 12 school photos are taking place: Monday 6th August (secondary) Tuesday 7th August (infants/primary) School photo envelopes were sent home with students last week and should be returned on photo day. A SEQTA message with details has also been sent out to parents. Family photo envelopes can be collected from the office. Family photos are being taken on both days. Prep photos are arranged separately. K-11 PARENT TEACHER INTERVIEW DATES Tuesday 31st July and 7th August 4pm 9pm For these interviews we are using a internetbased booking system called Parent Teacher On-Line (PTO). Please look out for a SEQTA message with information on how to log on and book interviews. SEMESTER 1 REPORTS AND SEQTA Semester 1 reports will be sent out via SEQTA later this term. Please make sure that you have your login and can access SEQTA. Printed copies of reports are no longer provided. Contact our IT manager via the office if you require assistance.
