Donevan Six years ago the Oshawa High School, then standing on the site of the present Collegiate and Vocational Institute, was raised to the status of a Collegiate Institute. With the present building programme complete, the school is now a fully equipped Collegiate and Vocational Institute. The courses of study offered in the Collegiate and Vocational Institute are designed to give instruction and training in those subjects which time and experience have shown to be best suited for the living of a complete, useful, successful and satisfactory life. (a) THE COLLEGIATE DEPARTMENT The Collegiate Department is essentially for those students who wish to enter on a University course of any kind. C.H.R. Fuller W.M. Hutchison R. MacKinnon M. Miller (b) THE VOCATIONAL DEPARTMENT The Vocational Department is the answer to the growing demand that Secondary Schools offer preparatory courses to that large group who will find their way into commerce, trade, and industry. I. The Commercial Course (for girls and boys): This course is designed to give a general High School education, together with such training in business theory and practice, that students, besides being generally well-informed, will be able to adapt themselves to the needs of any business with which they may become identified. The Industrial Course (for boys only): The industrial course is planned to meet the needs of boys who are looking forward to employment in industrial occupations and who will eventually become skilled workers, craftsmen, foremen, superintendents, executives, technical experts. 2. The Home Economics Course (for girls only): This is a three-year course for girls in the Science of Home Making and Household Economics. Graduates may become nurses-in-training, or may find their vocations as saleswomen or assistants in dressmaking and millinery departments, hospitals, or cafeterias. 3. Evening Classes: Evening classes are offered in such subjects as the Advisory Vocational Committee decides upon.
