1 Deputies and Alternates to Province VII Synod Elect 4 Clergy Deputies and 4 Clergy Alternates; Elect 4 Lay Deputies and 4 Lay Alternates. Description of duties: As voting representatives of the diocese attend the meeting of the Synod of the Province of the Southwest (Province VII). Clergy The Rev. David Archibald, Rector, St. Andrew s, San Antonio Qualifications: The ministries of Province VII are ten-fold as listed on their website. While all the areas are important, three of them are of particular interest to me: Anti-racism, Restorative Justice, and Christian Formation. If chosen as a deputy these would be areas I could both grow in and contribute to. Rector; I have particular interest in children and youth ministries, and in church growth. Community Activities: Active in community organizing for District 7 (San Antonio City Council) Diocesan Activities: During 25 years in ordained ministry in this diocese and the diocese of Texas and Arkansas, I have served in numerous capacities, including: Stewardship Committee, Commission on Ministry, and Camp Capers Chaplain and Dean, and others. The Rev. David P. Chalk, Rector, St. Francis by the Lake, Canyon Lake Qualifications: While I was not born and raised in the Diocese of West Texas, I got here as fast as I could. I have a historical knowledge of, and intense personal experience with, the Episcopal Church in many dioceses and through many ministries. I also have international experience with the Episcopal Church. I have now served as a priest in this diocese for more than 15 years and believe I understand our local concerns and context. I would like the opportunity to put my knowledge and experience to good use on behalf of the diocese and for our church. James (Jim) Friedel, Rector, St. Peter s, Rockport Qualifications: Jim previously served as a Province VII Deputy, and he is interested in the further development of Province VII relationships and collaboration. 3 The Rev. Shanna Neff, Rector, St. Paul s, Brady Qualifications: I grew up in the Episcopal Church and I have always loved being involved in a diversity of ministries. I have served in three dioceses and have been blessed with a variety of activities in each diocese. I have been ordained closed to 26 years, and I want to give back to my Church what it gave me: a passion for ministry. Canon Beverly Patterson, Canon Missioner for the Coastal Bend PIM Qualifications: Beverly holds a Bachelor of Science degree in human behavior and business; has 20 years customer financial services experience, including training and supervision; has her MDiv from the University of the South, School of Theology; and she has strong organizational skills and a passion for ministry. 4 Lay Ms. Wheless Baker, member of St. John s, Sonora Qualifications: Wheless loves the Diocese of West Texas Wheless has served on Vestry as a general member and is now serving on current Vestry as Junior Warden; she has also served as a lay reader, Godly Play instructor, Council delegate many times, served on Vet Mission teams to Vera Cruz and Honduras, as well as been on a mission trip to an orphanage in Belarus.
