1 Friday 8th December 2017 Mrs Brown s Week On Monday we welcomed Ace to Year 2. I am sure that you will make him and his family very welcome. In the afternoon there was great excitement in Year 5, when the children held their Enterprise Challenge Market Day. Thank you to all the children and parents who supported this venture and helped the children to raise for the dementia charity are raising money for a Dementia Garden at Leighton Hospital. Well done to all the children. There was a wide range of products on sale, from lava lamps to stress balls and Christmas decorations. Tuesday was very exciting for Reception and KS1 who visited the Civic Hall to watch Santa s Mixed up Martian. I was reliably informed that Martians like lots of presents for Christmas, but they especially like alien teddies! Thank you to FOSA for organising the coffee morning on Wednesday morning, which was quite well attended. It was a lovely informal get together and was enjoyed by all. The next one is planned for January 17th put it in your diary now. On Wednesday afternoon the Dragons visited Year 5 children to hear the presentations from each of their companies. The children all did really well but in the end it was the Stress Poms who won. The Dragons were especially impressed with the fact that as well as ready made stress balls, the group had some kits to make your own. Well done to the winning team Isabella, Lizzie, Joe, Lewis and Maria M. They go on to the finals at Brine Leas in the New Year. Victoria Palethorpe visited school again this week to help the children in Y4 to practice their songs for Animal Farm, which they will perform next week (13th and 14th) - tickets are available from St Thomas More s Reception or by phoning Prices are 4 for Adults/ 2 for concessions. At this morning s assembly we celebrated good writing throughout the school; it was especially pleasing to see the progress that the Reception children have made as they recounted their theatre visit. A huge thank you to all of the parents who helped prepare resources and run the activities on Advent Day and to those who helped on the day. The children had a lovely day and enjoyed learning about Christmas around the world. Well done to Y6 for their very interesting Advent Assembly that ensured we remembered the true meaning of Christmas. Pastoral Life at St Anne s Assemblies This week have focused on the theme of Advent and getting ready for Jesus coming. First Holy Communion The next preparation session is on Sunday 28th January in church at 10.15am. You could use the break to ensure that your God s Greatest Gift Book is up to date. This week school continued to pray for Miss Alcock. 11th Choir singing at Elm House 12th Nativity Performances 2.15pm and 6pm 13th Nativity performances 6pm STM & Y4 Animal Farm 14th STM Y4 Animal Farm 14th KS2 Primary Carols at St Mary s help to walk to church welcomed Y1/Y5 Fairy Tale thank you party 15th Wear Christmas Jumpers to school Y3 Drumming assembly Christmas lunch and film 5pm Choir Carol Concert Parties Y3/4 18th; YR/Y1/Y2 19th; Y5/6 20th Please check our website diary for events further into the future.
2 St Anne s Keep Fit - Healthy Sport Sport Football **Congratulations** to our football team who won the Town Cheshire Shield last Friday. The whole squad played an important part in getting us to the final so we want to thank them all for their hard work and commitment. Thank you to Mr Day for coaching the boys and supporting them during each match. Thank you also to Mrs Mooney and parents for supporting the team and taking them to the matches. Golden Mile Club We have not been able to use the field as it is very wet and muddy at the moment. We hope to offer the club in the morning, lunchtimes and after school again during the Spring term. Change4Life Club We will be offering this opportunity to a new set of children during the Spring Term. Look out for your invitation! Thank you to our Malbank students who run this club on a Wednesday lunchtime. It has proved to be popular for most of the children who were invited this term. 4 St Anne s Community St Anne s Needs You : I received this this week : I am ing regarding the school crossing patrol located outside your school on Wellington Road. As I am sure you are aware Lynda the current school crossing patrol has resigned and will be finishing at the end of this term. I would like to make you aware that it is unlikely that Lynda will be replaced. It is not Cheshire East Policy to recruit where there is a marked crossing. There are two zebra crossings on Wellington Road close to school. Lynda was employed before the crossing was put in so remained at the location. I will arrange for a risk assessment to be carried to confirm that a crossing patrol is not needed. Kind regards Pat Hughes Transport Service Solutions Transport Operations Officer E mail : Schooltransport@transportservicesolutions.co.uk I have expressed my concerns about this decision but many voices are likely to be heard more than one. Please contact Pat Hughes to ensure that she understands how busy and dangerous Wellington Road is. Governing Body Many of you may be aware that our Chair of Governors, Aaron Baxter, is leaving his position. He was elected as Parent Governor in December 2008 and took over the position of Chair of Governors in October Aaron has given his time freely and has supported the staff and the Governing Body throughout those years. Schools evolve with staff and legislation but Aaron has always ensured that St Anne s has stayed ahead of the game and ensured that, whatever the situation, it is the pupils and their education which is of paramount importance. Thank you Aaron for your time and commitment and we wish you well with everything you do in the future. Aaron will continue to serve on the Governing body. Thanks also to Clare, Elliott, Niamh and Isaac for their support of Aaron. The Governing Body also welcomed Mrs Sue Day, this week as the new Parent Governor. Thank you to Mrs Day for volunteering to help the school in this way.
5 Stars of the week Y1 YR George M for a fantastic Wanted poster about the wolf. Felix B for amazing independent writing and lots of tricky words spelt correctly and Arten S for making fantastic progress and working amazingly hard with his writing. Y2 Daisy C for writing a fabulous story - well done Daisy! Y3 Kuba G for putting so much effort into this non-fiction book and improving his punctuation. Y4 Alicia L for constantly thinking about improving her writing. Y5 Lizzie D for her Just So story in the style of Rudyard Kipling and for up-levelling and improving her ending. Y6 Ogo O for his excellent report on the sinking of the Lusitania.
