2 Academics Academics in December 2014 Exams & Results On the 27 th of November 2014, Cambridge International Examination Board, along with British Council, organized an award ceremony to honor the Outstanding Learners who completed grades 10, 11 and 12. The ceremony was held at Amari Hotel, Dhaka at 4.00 pm. Students of DPS STS Dhaka received awards for attaining the highest grades in Bangladesh in 8 subjects. Three students: Md Wasee Ul Hoque, Sifat Bin Quadery and Sandip Kollol Dhruba received the Awards for Best Results across Eight Cambridge IGCSE subjects in June The Award ceremony was attended by the Honorable Vice Principal along with Coordinators and Heads. Grade-10 Screening Exams were held from Sunday, 30th Nov to Saturday 20 th Dec Grade-11 Screening Exams were held from Tuesday, 18th Nov to Tuesday 9 th Dec Grade-12 Screening Exams were held from Tuesday, 18th Nov to Monday 8 th Dec Grades 11 & 12 Screening Test (First Term Examination) results were given on Wednesday, 17th Dec General Awareness Test for Grade 3-9 (Term 2) was held on 10th December, 2014, Wednesday. Academics in January 2015 Exams & Results Monday, 5 th Jan 2015, after winter vacation School could not reopen due to political disturbance. As per instruction of the Vice Principal, HOD S and the Secondary Head were present in the school on Wednesday, 7 th January

3 Grade-10 Screening Exam (Retake) was held from Friday 9th January till Tuesday 20 th January Grade-11 & 12 Screening Exam (Retake) was held from Friday 9th January till Saturday 17 th January2014. Mr. Mustafizur Rahman Mridha (Board Exam Coordinator) has started the Board Exam Registration for IGCSE from 14 th January 2015 till 1 st February, FELICITATIONS Congratulations to Ms. Amina Tasnim Annie Assistant Executive Admission and Administration who was blessed with a baby boy on Monday, 5 th January Field Trips in December 2014 INTERNATIONAL SCIENCE CAMP, SINGAPORE 11 Students of DPS STS Dhaka visited the International Science Camp at the National University of Singapore from Dec 15- Dec 19. Students enjoyed learning in a multi faceted environment where they gained incredible knowledge about Genetic Engineering, 3D Printing, Waste Incineration, Self Driving Cars, Modern and Future Surgical techniques and more. Young adults learned to each take up responsibility, work outside comfort zones and deal with different perspectives, cultures and ideals. Students also experienced life living in dorms, setting up schedules and distributing everyday duties while learning to live in harmony. 3

4 GRADE 4 TRIP TO TAKA MUSEUM On 8 th December, all sections of Grade-4 went for an Educational Field Trip to the Taka Museum. The students enjoyed the outing and they were able to gather a lot of information about currency. GRADE 7 TRIP TO SHILPAKALA On 11 th of December, 2014 all sections of Grade-7 (Art students only) went for an Educational Field Trip, to Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy Art Gallery, Shegun Bagicha, Dhaka. The Shilpakala Academy is a place where the inner beauty of artistic imagination has been preserved in aesthetic frames and models. Students were mesmerized by the varieties of Art ranging from Illusion Arts, Glass Painting and Sculptures. They also enjoyed brief videos and famous Canvas Paintings by eminent painters throughout history. 4

5 GRADE 5 TRIP TO HERITAGE PARK On the 14 th of December, 2014, all sections of Grade-5 went for an Educational Field Trip, to Heritage Park, Ashulia. Seven respected faculty members accompanied the students where they enjoyed Monuments and Rides. NURSERY TRIP TO NATIONAL ZOO On 15 th December 2014, Pre Primary class, Nursery (Morning shift and Dayshift), went for an Educational Field Trip, to National Zoo, Dhaka. The Purpose of the Field trip was to enable the children to practically examine the animals and learn about them. At the Mirpur zoo, children saw different types of animals and observed their behavior while developing empathy towards these magnificent creatures. They got the chance to observe their surroundings and learn new things which reflected in the drawings they did the day after the field trip. PRE-KG TRIP TO PARLIAMENT HOUSE In lieu of Victory Day, on the 17th of December, all sections of Pre-KG went for an Educational Field Trip to the Parliament House. The young ones were delighted as it was their very first bus ride. They learnt about the significance of the Parliament House and also got to play in an open field in the Armed Officers mess. KUAKATA TRIP On the 22 nd, students of Grades 11 & 12 of DPS STS School, while accompanied by Senior Teachers, took an educational trip to Kuakata, educational experience of Rural Bangladesh. Barisal. The trip was organized by the Asmat Ali Khan Foundation & Ministry of Shipping. Students boarded one of the finest ships in the country called Banglai and had a fun filled yet 5

6 Meetings & Workshops in December 2014 Mr. Harsh Wal, Principal of DPS STS School, had a meeting with Ms. Samara from MONASH on 3rd December, 2014 (Wednesday) at a.m. regarding student workshop. Ms. Afrin (Board Exam Assistant Coordinator & Coordinator Grades 11 & 12) also joined the meeting. Mr. Harsh Wal (Principal) attended a corporate dinner on 4th December, Thursday 2014 on the Roof top of ROYAL PARK RESIDENCE HOTEL at 7.00 p.m. Mr. Mridha (IT Manager & Board Exam Coordinator) attended a meeting on 4th December, 2014 (Thursday). The meeting was held at STS office at 10:3 0a.m. The agenda of the meeting was the design of our new website. Mr. Faisal Kader COO, Mr.M. Giashuddin CFO, Mr. M. Khan Bahar GM (P&L), of STS group and COO of DCASTALIA, and Mr. Kairul Hasan also attended the meeting. Mr. Moyeen, Director of STS Group, and Mr. Richard Tangye, CEO of STS Educational Group, and Md. Shakawat Hossain, Chief Engineer of STS Group, had a meeting with Principal & Vice Principal at DPS STS School on Monday 8th December, Mr. Richard Tangye, CEO of STS Educational Group had a meeting with Principal & Vice Principal at DPS STS School on Wednesday 10th December, 2014 at 8.15 a.m. Mr. Mridha (IT Manager & Board Exam Coordinator) went to Daily Star Office on 11th December, 2014, Thursday at 12:30 to attend a meeting for the Daily Star Awards Mr. Faisal Kader, COO of STS Group had a meeting with Principal & Vice Principal at DPS STS School on 17th December, 2014, Wednesday at a.m. A meeting was held in the Conference room of DPS STS SCHOOL on exam policies and responsibilities of Grades 10, 11, 12 with HOD S and the respective subject teachers on 17th December, 2014, Wednesday. Presentations, Seminars & Workshops in December 2014 CAMBRIDGE SCHOOLS CONFERENCE, COLOMBO Mrs. Madhu Wal, Vice Principal of DPS STS SCHOOL DHAKA, attended the Cambridge Schools Conference 2014 at Northshore College of Business and Technology, in Colombo, Sri Lanka from Wednesday 3 rd to Friday 5th December, This program was intended to support professional learning through the consideration of key questions and themes which pose challenges to teachers 6

7 worldwide. The activities of both days were related to the conference theme, with one day focused on inspiring teaching and the other on inspiring learning. The program included keynote speakers, workshops, seminar sessions and panel discussions. DHAMUN WORKSHOP AT ISD BASUNDHARA Twenty students attended the DHAMUN WORKSHOP on 5 th, 12 th and 13 th December 2014 from DPS STS School Dhaka. The venue was ISD, Bashundhara, Dhaka. Students were treated as Delegates representing countries of the United Nations and issues regarding Third World Hunger, Womens Rights and Humanitarian Agendas etc. were discussed and debated. Students enjoyed the event thoroughly and are looking forward to the next meet. Meetings & Workshops in January 2015 Mr. Harsh Wal (Principal) & Mrs. Madhu Wal attended a Corporate dinner on Tuesday, 20 th January, 2015 with the Board of Directors of STS Group at 8:00 pm. The venue was IZUMI RESTAURANT (Japanese Restaurant) 24/C Road 113, Gulshan -2. Co curricular Activities in December 2014 Socially Useful Productive Work (SUPW) On 1 st December, students from Grades 5-9 enjoyed themselves while Gardening at the Pre Primary Playground. Students completed their given tasks with the aim to contribute meaningfully to the society. 7

The Exhibition ended on 7th December, Sunday, Pre Primary Pitha Uthsav The Pre Primary Section of DPS STS School held the winter fest on the 8 th of December at the green field. Fruits and vegetables of winter season were put up for display along with winter outfits and accessories, the ingredients to make pitha, and a model of husking paddle (manual rice grinder). The main attraction of the day was the pitha makers! They came along with their necessary utensils, stove and ingredients to make three kinds of pithas (namely, bhapa, chitoi and nakshi pitha) for all. Mr. Moyeen, Director of STS Group and Mr. Richard Tangye, CEO of STS Educational Group, also visited the fete. 10

11 Winter Pitha Uthsav Grade 4 welcomed the School to a wonderful Pitha Uthsav on the 11 th of December, where the students brought in a variety of traditional pithas to share with everyone. English Quiz Competition Grade 9 On the 10 th of December, DPS STS School hosted an English Quiz Competition for Grade 9. There were 7 rounds with multifarious topics ranging from expressions, idioms, misspelled words, spellings, word meanings and literature. Class 9 students participated as they represented their designated houses. After the competition ended, winners were announced and the results were: Ruby House 170 points Emerald House 165 points Topaz House 120 points Sapphire House 115 points Participants of the contest according to Houses were: 1) Ruby House Samihat Rahman, Nafis Forkan, Shabab Inteshar and Nusaiba Tushra 2) Emerald House Aima Meer, Yousra Hossain, Urbana Shaukat and Zaki Tahmid 3) Topaz House Tahiat Goni, Md. Ahnaf Rahman, Sakeeb Anjum and Tasnim Tabassum 4) Sapphire House Raisa Jamaly, Tahsin Alamgir, Samia Nazmin and Ibrahim Wais. Pre Primary Winter Cultural Program 11

12 Selected children of Pre KG and KG performed both Bengali and English songs, dancing to two popular Bengali songs, and reciting the "Old McDonald had a farm" poem with action and props. Last but not least, the Pre KG students took part in the drama The Magic Porridge. The Second session included performances by children of play group and nursery. All the children of the four Sections of Play Group took part in four different action songs wearing beautiful props. The little ones participated in a dance to a Bengali Song, while some others participated in the action song "The Wheels of the Bus" with props. The Show Stopper was the fashion parade performed by certain students of Nursery, where the children dressed up in different traditional outfits to represent the children of the world. Special Assembly of Victory Day for Grades:6-12 On the occasion of Victory Day to pay respect to the National Flag, our Honorable Principal hoisted the National Flag and the Vice Principal hoisted the School Flag in the Basketball Court at 8.50 a.m. Christmas Day Celebration for Grades: 1 to 7 Christmas day celebrations were held on the 18 th of December in order to commemorate the upcoming Christmas Break. Students performed few solo numbers focusing on the Christmas Theme while the younger ones dressed in costumes keeping tune with the theme of Christmas. It was hosted at the School Auditorium and students enjoyed the event a lot. 12
