4 Expectations Relating to Attendance Research shows that children who attend school regularly achieve better results in their tests and exams. Consequently, they have better chances to be successful in life. Our aim is to work with parents to ensure that all of our pupils receive the most from their education and reach their full potential. A letter relating to attendance requirements and procedures is attached to this pack. Further information on attendance can be found in the CET Attendance Policy which is available on the school website. If you wish to discuss any attendance issues or concerns, please contact Mrs Elaine Blaby (Pupil Support Manager). Expectations Relating to Behaviour Three Peaks Primary Academy has high expectations in relation to pupil behaviour. The school has three school rules: Be prepared to learn Let others learn Respect the rights and properties of others. The school takes a positive approach to behaviour management and uses a system called Good to Be Green to promote expected behaviours. Rewards for Positive Behaviour Praise from the class teacher / TA Sent to another teacher / Phase Leader Awarding of House Points Stickers Awards and mentions in Merit Assemblies Special responsibilities or jobs Playground rewards Star Table Lunchtime experience Stage 1 - Verbal Warning given Stage 2 - Yellow Card issued Sanctions for Negative Behaviour (Pupils may be moved to work elsewhere in Year Group teaching area) Verbal Warnings and Yellow Cards can be overturned if the pupil modifies their behaviour and meets the school s behaviour expectations. Stage 3 - Red Card issued resulting in loss of playtime privilege. Additional Red Cards issued in the same day will result in the pupil being sent to discuss behaviour with their Phase Leader. The parents of any child receiving three red cards in a week, will be asked to attend a behaviour meeting with a member of the school s Leadership Team. Stage 1 and 2 will be bypassed if a pupil is involved with violent behaviour (including the deliberate damage of the school s property or the property of others) or rudeness to an adult in school.

5 Early Work At the beginning of each school day teachers set children a range of learning activities called Early Work. These activities reinforce previous teaching and allow children to respond to the teacher s marking. Early Work starts as the doors open at 8:45am and runs until the registers are completed. We have found that this extra period of time has had a big impact on the attainment and progress of the children who regularly arrived at 8:45. Homework Homework is set each Friday and is to be completed by Wednesday the following week. We use homework to either reinforce the previous week s learning or to prepare the children for future learning. We provide the children with a homework book which matches the style of books used in school and expect our children to present their work to match the standards that we have in class. In order to encourage children to complete their homework, we will be establishing a homework reward system. Teachers are available to support any parents who have questions regarding the homework that has been set and Mrs Blaby runs a homework club on Tuesday lunchtimes which children can attend if they wish. We obviously encourage parents to take an active role in supporting their children with their homework and to engage in discussions with them about what they are learning. If children fail to complete their homework on a regular basis, parents will be asked to attend a meeting in school so that the issue can be addressed. Concerns If you have any concerns or worries about your child s education or life at school, please contact us. Staff who man the doors will pass any messages onto class teachers. Alternatively, messages can be left with the school office in person, by phone call or via . If necessary, teachers will then make contact as soon as they can. As you will have seen earlier in this pack, Early Work sessions start at 8:45am and prior to this teachers have a staff briefing each morning so it may be difficult for them to be able to talk before school. Our SENDCo, Mrs Shelton-Smith is available should you be concerned about your child s progress. Mrs Blaby, our Pupil Support Manager, is available to discuss any concerns about behaviour, wellbeing, attendance or health related issues.
