Mathew 28:19-20 Contents Stage 2 New School update Important Dates Classroom news Information in brief Community News On Tuesday 4th April we celebrated the opening of the Early Learning Centre Koorlangka Waarbiny at our Casserley Avenue campus. The short ceremony included a traditional welcome to country speech from Mrs Ollie Rundle, a dance, performed by Kaylee Winchester, accompanied on didgeridoo by her grandfather Mr Michael Rundle. Mr Eric Farmer (Former School Board Chair) read Psalm 8, followed by a prayer by Rev Rex Gabrielson. The audience were presented with an item by the Senior Choir, followed by an address from Senator Dean Smith and Mr Tony Stopher. Kindergarten, Pre-Primary, Year 1 and Year 2 Students presented a moving performance of I am Australian followed by the unveiling of the plaque and cutting of the ribbon. Guests were then invited to tour the new facility, guided by the young students. Morning tea and coffee were provided by the EPG. Thank you to everyone who came to celebrate this special event in the life of our School. Page 1

2 Stage 2 Administration Block Construction is well underway on stage 2 of the new Primary School. The new Administration block will be comprised of offices for Principal, Deputy Principal, Bursar, Reception area, Uniform Shop, Canteen facilities and Library. The building is due to be completed in October this year, and will be in use for Stage 3 is planned to commence in 2018 and will involve the construction of Classrooms 3 6 Page 2

4 Year 6 Masquerade Following the huge success of 2016 s Masquerade Easter Lunch, the 2017 experience was just as amazing, colourful and full of surprises, perhaps more. The guests were welcomed to a lavish 5 course lunch as nobility would be served. This was thanks to head chef, Tien Sutanto, who took time away from her Balga Heights restaurant to cook for the Year 6 s. The Masquerade experience took place in a beautifully decorated venue. As the guests entered there was an air of mystery and surprise, something the Year 6 s had never experienced at McDonald s, HJ s or even Sizzler. This 5-star event was something else. Who best to greet every guest, than the exquisite Mrs G who warmly welcomed everyone to her establishment, which she humbly suggested was a feast for the eyes' and not just for any riff-raff from the streets. Entering through the glamorous double doors of Masquerade, the year 6 attendees were escorted to their tables by carefully selected and trained waitresses to enjoy the candlelit Easter setting and a sumptuous lunch. After the etiquette rules and eating guidelines/laws were outlined, it was then time to eat. Special awards were bestowed for the Best Dressed, for Social Etiquette and for Conversation. Image was everything! Many photos were taken, allowing children to pull out their best poses. Madame Gabrielson was more than happy with the dress code, manners, food quality and general decorum but then proceedings took a turn for the wild! The guest speaker, Dr Dougalian Stevanovich cranked up some loud beats, got the diners to remove their masks and it pretty much turned into a free-for-all dance-fest! This expert in Charade addiction then went on to explain that masks are for those who are hiding, which is not in the spirit of Easter. He encouraged the guests to remove their masks so they could be free from sin and free to be who God made them to be through his son, Jesus. By the time everyone left Masquerade, they were full of food, full of compliments, full of information about the delicacies they d just consumed and full of ideas about masks. They can hide what s beneath but they cannot change what s beneath. Page 4

6 Medieval Display Year 8 have been learning about the Medieval age in Europe. We learnt about their lifestyle including what they ate, where they lived and how they worked. We had a choice to either build a medieval model or research and create a powerpoint for our assignment. Most students chose to build a medieval model. Last Wednesday, we had students from other classes and family come to the HASS room to see our models. They asked questions and learnt about our models. We really enjoyed this topic and building the models, this really helped us learn about the medieval ages but in a fun way. By Victoria and Moo Page 6

7 School Fees are now due. Fees can be paid at the Main Office, over the phone, or direct debit. Ask at the office for Bank details. Mothers Day The EPG are organising a stall for students to buy gifts for Mum next week. Thank you to the parents who have volunteered to help make this happen! Money needs to be returned by THIS Friday. Bunnings Sausage Sizzle Next Saturday, 13th May. Fill out a volunteer form if you can help on the day, or just come along and buy some breakfast/lunch/ morning tea! Faction Shirts Forms have been given to all students PP-Yr6 regarding faction shirts for Terms 3 & 4. Please return these promptly. Forms must be completed for all students whether they require a new shirt or not. Choir Days have changed this term. The GOSPEL Choir (Y3-6) now meets on Wednesday afternoons 3:20 4:10. Same time, same place just a different day. The Senior Choir is staying the same. Uniform Shop is open every Monday morning (8:30-9:30am) and Thursday afternoon (3:00-3:30pm). Subway Lunches Forms to be returned by morning. Lunch delivered every Friday. School Banking Every Thursday morning from 8am to 8:30am at BOTH campuses. Come and visit for more information. Homework club Every Thursday afternoon from 3:20-4:15pm. Collect a form from the office for the new term and complete with Parents signature. Parents Prayer group Fortnightly on Friday mornings 8:45-9:15 in the Church hall. Next prayer meeting is Friday 12th May. Social Media Please ensure that you DO NOT post photos of students (other than your own) on facebook, Instagram, twitter etc. without the permission of their parents. Change of details have you moved?? Got a new phone?? Call the school to update your details on or mreyes@eccs.wa.edu.au Emergency contacts these are very important in the case that your child becomes sick or injured, and we are unable to reach you. Check with us in the office if you are unsure what details we have on file. Second Hand Uniforms There is a list of 2nd hand, great condition uniforms for sale. These are mainly girls uniforms, varying sizes For a copy of the list, please ask in the office. Page 7
