MATRICULATION HIGHER SECONDARY SCHOOL 30, Ramachandra Road, Nehru Nagar, Chromepet, Chennai ANNUAL REPORT Distinguished Chief Guest of this evening, Members of the Academic Council, Well Wishers, Special Invitees, Parents, Staff members and my beloved Students, We extend a very warm welcome to one and all on the occasion of our Bidecennial Annual Day celebrations. It gives me great pleasure to present the Annual Report for the academic year With the blessings of the Great Saint, Shree Chandrasekharendra Saraswathi Swamigal, our Institution saw the limelight on 28 th June, 1985 in G.S.T. Road, Chromepet. Started in a rented building with about 20 students, 5 teachers and with classes till 5 th, Our School began on a modest note, has progressed year after year, and has reached the present status of a Higher Secondary School. Today, our own school building stands tall and high with a good infrastructure of over 30 well equipped classrooms, an extensive and informative library, a highly modernized Computer lab with internet connection and a self sufficient science laboratory. With a student strength of over 700, and with an experienced, well qualified and dedicated team of 40 teaching staff and 10 non teaching staff, our school is fast developing into one of the prestigious schools in Chromepet. This has been made possible by the tireless, dedicated and stupendous teamwork of our teachers who are doing a wonderful job. The two characteristics of our school are: (i) Togetherness and (ii) Team Spirit. A Child s mind is the fertile soil, in which the seeds grow, but he/she will blossom and what he/she will be, depends on what we sow Our goal is to provide adequate opportunities and suitable environment for the physical growth and mental development of the children of our SCS family.

2 We give priority to inculcate in our students such qualities like punctuality, uniformity, honesty, truthfulness which go into successful man making. SALIENT FEATURES Assembly sessions inclusive of general knowledge questions, display of historical characters, one minute topics, newspaper reading and exhibiting students creativity in art. Club activities are conducted every Saturday to promote students extra curricular talents and improve their imaginary skills. 1- Bhagavad Gita classes, Sanskrit classes, Bala Vihar classes, Dance classes, Yoga, Bhajans etc. are conducted weekly to create an interest in learning about our varied and rich Hindu Vedic religion. - Reference works relating to current topics and events are highlighted on the notice board. Prizes and motivation cards are given to students to encourage their creativity. Bhajans are held on every Tuesdays. NIE programmes are conducted by THE HINDU for classes VII to IX. Personality development programmes are conducted regularly by the Ripe Institute, Nanganallur for Classes I to XII. ABACUS classes are conducted every week to improve students skill in understanding and implementing mathematics easily for classes 1 st to 5 th at an economical cost. ACADEMIC SPECIALTIES An Academic Council, consisting of eminent educationalists, guide us in the academic progress. The various activities are: Quarterly review of teachers performances. Conducting of class tests to monitor the students performance. Personality development card along with progress has been designed.

3 Conducting regular faculty wise workshops and in service training for staff. Extensive use of Computer Media for better visualization. Organizing exhibitions once in a year. Setting targets for teachers and conducting regular staff meetings for getting feedback on the progress of the students. Orientation programmes, guest lectures by experts in various fields are arranged periodically. OUTSTANDING ACHIEVEMENTS K.Krithiga and Priya were the top scorers in the X Std. Board examinations held in March/April In the higher secondary examinations, V. Srividhya (Science) and Prasanna Vengatesh (Commerce) secured the highest marks. -2- In the XI Std. examinations, D. Pradeep (Science) and Santhosh Bharatwaj (Commerce) scored the highest marks. SPORTS ACTIVITIES ALL WORK AND NO PLAY MAKES JACK A DULL BOY Sports play an important role in a student s life to keep him physically fit. Under the efficient and inspiring guidance of our P.T. sir, Mr. Elangovan, our school sports team participated in many events and has won prizes. 1/7/05 - N.S.N. In G- zones, Athletics 4 x 100m. (Relay) our students entered the finals. 6/8/05 - Devanathan Hr. Sec. School Tournament Throw ball Girls Semi finals Volley ball Boys finals. SCOUTS, GUIDES AND J.R.C. Our Scouts, Guides and JRC volunteers have rendered excellent service. The activities of JRC include took part in a rally to spread awareness about Environment Cleanliness. -3- served as volunteers in our Annual exhibition - Life Skills. participated in Inter School competitions held in our school and won many prizes. visited many flood hit areas around Chromepet and rendered assistance to flood victims. participated in blood donations camp organized by Sathya Sai Seva Samajam and volunteered social service. We are happy to announce that our student K. Prakash has won the 1 st Prize for best social service awarded by the Karuna Club. The Scouts and Guides started their yearly activities with a camp at Zion Mat. Hr. Sec. School for applying for Rasthriya Puraskar awards

5 on scouts were selected in a training camp conducted at Govt. Boys Hr. Sec. School on 9 th & 10 th July. Our scout master participated in the one night camp. The scouts and guides were given training in first aid. An In School camp was also conducted on 30 th and 31 st July Our scouts and guides participated in scouts and guides test camp at state training centre at Alathur on 5 th and 6 th August Our school also participated in the camp held at govt. boys Hr. Sec. School, Thirukazhukundram.The following scouts and guides participated in a thinking rally on at Govt. high school at Chengalpat : C. Sriram, S. Sabarish, N. Arivazhagan, S. Vignesh, R. Sudershan, L. Kanagaraj, A.P. Bhadri Narayanan of V Std., S. Sankaran, Saravanaprakash of VII Std. & Aswanth ganesh of IX Std. CELEBRATIONS All functions and religious festivals are celebrated to instigate national integrity. Guru Pooja, Vinayagar Chathurthi, Navarathri, Christmas, etc., were celebrated with great joy. Teachers day, Founders day and Sports day are enthusiastically observed. TEACHERS PROGRAMMES As part of Teachers Day Celebrations, Lions Club of Pallavapuram and our school jointly organized a symposium under the topic EDUCATIONyesterday, today & tomorrow. Lion Governor Mr. K. Bhaskar was the chief guest and Mrs. Lakshmi, Principal of Meenakshi College for Women, was the Guest of Honour. As many as 12 schools in and around Chromepet participated and expressed their views on this subject. Prince Babu Rajendran, correspondent of St. Marks School was awarded the first prize for his excellent paper presentation. -4- A workshop for teachers was conducted by Mr. Babu, (Retd.) Rane group, about 5 S Japanese Technologies for Organized living. INDEPENDENCE DAY CELEBRATIONS An exhibition on LIFE SKILLS was organized to mark the Independence day celebrations.

6 CHILDREN S DAY CELEBRATIONS On Children s day, our tiny tots from Pre K.G. to II std. had a whale of time participating and winning prizes in many competitions like fancy dress, elocutions, family bizz, drawing competitions, etc. The Lions Club of Hastinapuram and our school jointly organized an inter-school Health Quiz programme. The quiz master was Lion Dr. S. Muthu Kumar, Parvathy Ortho Hospital, Chromepet. Vivekananda Vidyalaya, Chromepet, were announced as the winners of the day. A Counseling session for higher secondary students was held by Sri. K. Sampath, Retd. Scientist of Defense Research & Development Organization to encourage students to pursue research career. COMPETITIONS Taking part in competitions provide a breather and refreshes the student s mind who is overburdened with his studies curriculum. It brings out their versatility and skill in various other fields also. Hence, we encourage students to participate in competitions as it acts as a refresher to his mind and energizes his activities. This Academic year has been another successful year for our students. Our students have had the opportunity to sharpen their intellect and creativity. We have had a wonderful exposure through various district level and interschool competitions and have many prestigious prizes. With pride, we state that our school has won I & II prizes in the Kancheepuram District Level Science & Maths exhibition held at Jaigopal Garodia School, Tambaram. N. Devi Jagadha of XII Std. Won the I Prize in elocution competition organized by Ramana Kendra Trust. In the Inter school competitions at Srimathi Sundaravalli Memorial School V. Veena of XII Std. won the I prize for English Elocution while Varalakshmi of X Std. was awarded the I Prize in Drawing. Our School Quiz team led by Hariprasad received prizes in Science Quiz in N.S.N. Kala Mela Sangamithrai of VI B got the 1 st Prize, Sai Niranjan of V B got the 2 nd Prize and R. Anmitha, V Std, got the 3 rd prize in the National Craft Contest conducted by Fevicol. Our school students bagged the first prize in the senior level in Oratorical competition

7 held in Science Fest at Sri Sankara Vidyalaya Hr.Sec. School, Pammal Our students won the I prize in Tamil and English Elocution and II prize in english & tamil essay writing in the Inter school competitions held in SRDF Vivekananda Vidyalaya. In the Krishna Jayanthi celebrations 2005 held at National school, Tambaram, our school students received the I Prize in tamil elocution. Our school model was awarded the 1 st prize at the model display at Poly Vision 2005 held at Crescent Engineering College. We were announced as winners in the Vel s College of Science at Intelexia 2005 model and quiz competitions. Our school students won I prize in Elocution and flower arrangement in Sri Ramakrishna Vidyalaya Mat. Hr. Sec. School Gnana Jyothi Inter School competitions. Shri Shankara Vidyalaya, Pammal & Karuna Club - conducted a seminar on Scientific facts about vegetarianism paper presentation. Our students emerged as winners by receiving the I and II prizes, in the Science exhibition held at Pammal, Aswin of IX Std. won the I prize. In the Inter School competitions held at SRDF Vivekananda Vidyalaya & Karuna Club, our students won the I Prize in English essay writing, English & Tamil, Group Song, Drawing & Painting. Our students enthusiastically participated in the mass Geetha chanting competitions in Oct 2005 & in Mahakavi Bharathi drawing /essay / fancy dress Competitions. In the Childrens Day competitions, organized by CAMLIN, the following students won prizes in various competitions: 1. Tamil Elocution K. Venkatesan, IX B 2. Tamil Essay - R. Anirudhan, IX B 3. English Essay J. Manoj, IX B 4. English Elocution S. Aswin, IX B 5. Drawing - H. Sivasubramanian, IX B In the Vivekananda Jayanthi youth day celebrations held in

8 SRDF Vivekananda Vidyalaya in 9 th January 2006, our students won 3 first prizes in English elocution - recitation competitions, First prize in Tamil elocution recitation competition and I & II prizes in all levels in drawing competitions. In the Teachers day celebrations of Lakshmi Hayagreeva Cultural & Educational Trust, and the Lioness Club of Shree Darshan Dist. 324 A-1, our staff, Mrs. V. Padma (Biology) was awarded the best teacher award for her excellent service SOCIAL SERVICE ACTIVITIES Our school management, staff and students have a caring attitude towards the society and are doing their might for the benefit of the society. Pidi Arisi Thittam the main principle of our holy Guru- was implemented and has now gained momentum. Students are enthusiastically donating rice every week without fail. The collected rice is donated to orphanages and to the temple.this charitable programme was greatly appreciated by the media and was given an extensive coverage in Jaya TV, Sun TV and in DINAMALAR. Montessori Training Courses ( affiliated to the American Society) are conducted at a nominal fees to help housewives and widows. Quiz competitions were conducted by our Karuna Club. SETTING UP OF A CORPUS FUND On this Bidecennial year, the school management, taking into consideration the future prospects of their staff, has decided to set up a Corpus Fund. On this occasion, it gives me great pleasure in releasing this Souvenir. We are overwhelmed by the tremendous response of our well wishers and we thank you very much for your whole hearted cooperation and patronage. We express our heartiest thanks to all the donors for their liberal contributions:- 1. Mr. Kumar has donated Rs.2,00,000/- for Endowment fund. The interest received from the deposit will be given to the first rank holder in the XII Std. examination in chemistry. 2. Mrs. Kokila Kumar - Activity material for K.G. Section Mrs. Kokila Kumar has a special interest in our school s development

9 and is trying earnestly to secure scholarships for deserving students from abroad. 3. Six computers donated by Infosys Sholinganallur :- (i) Mr. M.Arul Nambi - Network Engineer (ii) Mrs. S. Krithiga Venkatesh Secretary Administration Department. This donation was recommended by Mr. Bhaskaran, husband of our teaching staff, Mrs. Priya. 4. Lion Dr. S. Muthu Kumar,President, Lions Club of Hastinapuram and director of Parvathy Ortho Hospital, Chromepet was very much impressed by the reading interest shown by our students and has donated Rs.25,000/- for adding more books to our school library. 5. We wish to commend the IX and XI students for their assistance to our kindergarten children to reach their classes daily morning. With your continued support and valued assistance and with the blessings of the Almighty, we are sure that we can achieve our goal. Perseverance and hard work surely has its rewards we can be successful if we are strong in our relentless pursuit of excellence. Under the able guidance and support of our district educational authorities, our academic council, trust members, donors, Lions Club members, parents, well wishers and teachers, we have been successfully striding towards our goal in giant leaps and bounds.
