At a special morning tea today, on behalf of the Beaumaris PS community, we thanked them for all that they do for our students, parents and teachers. Whole School Planning for 2018 If you have a child commencing in Prep in 2018 and the child is not yet enrolled please collect an enrolment form from the office and return it as soon as possible and before the end of August at the latest. As in all school communities, some families relocate at the end of the year. It is very helpful for our planning and much appreciated at this early stage, if you could please advise the office if you will not be returning to BPS in Parent Opinion Survey Invitations were sent to randomly selected families via Compass on 7 August. Survey closes 27 August On Monday 7 August randomly selected families were sent an via Compass, inviting them to complete the Parent Opinion Survey online. Each family is to complete the survey once. Instructions have been forwarded via Compass. If parents have any questions or require further assistance please call the office. Junior School Council Presentation at BPS School Council on Tuesday evening Thank you to the members of Junior School Council for their attendance at our meeting on Tuesday evening. The students explained their purpose and some events and fundraisers that they are organising this year. Their projects endeavour to support a range of community charities. The efforts of Junior School Council empower our students to contribute to those less fortunate and strengthen the students understanding of the value of gratitude and empathy, key factors responsible for enhancing personal wellbeing. Fundraiser for Mr Joe Lilburne and Family Last year Mr Joe Lilburne s wife suffered a stroke and is currently undergoing rehabilitation. Mr Lilburne shared this with the school community, via Compass, prior to taking leave earlier this term to support his wife with her recovery and treatment at home. Two Year 5 students, Grace and Georgia, prepared a proposal to organise a fundraiser as a gesture of support from our school community to the Lilburne Family. On Tuesday night School Council approved the proposal and the funds raised on Footy Day will be forwarded to the family. A copy of the students proposal can be found at the end of this week s newsletter. Thank you to Georgia and Grace for their thoughtfulness and thank you in advance to our students and families for their donation on Footy Day. 2 BPS Garden Club Update Thank you to our student helpers this week for completing the planting for the 'Mindfulness' Fern Area. This area was created through support from school, Bunnings Mentone and a Victorian School Garden Awards Grant. The area is now filled with low maintenance Native Ferns that will continue to grow. A big thank you must also go to the volunteers during previous working bees who helped prepare this area. And lastly - The results are in! The design of the 'Mindfulness Mosaic' that will be installed in this area was decided by a vote in Year 5V. Congratulations to the 'winning' design and team. The Mosaic will now be completed by the students and installed in this area to reinforce and remind students of the values aligning with The Resilience Project and mindfulness. 3 Kids Teaching Kids Week Festival During Kids Teaching Kids Week, September, some of our students will be running workshops at the School Sustainability Festival in St Kilda and we need lots of pre-loved t-shirts which we will be repurposing to make bags. If you have t-shirts which are past their use by date we would love to have them for this activity. Please drop them to the office at your earliest convenience. Scholastic Book Fair A reminder to everyone that the 2017 Book Fair starts Monday 21 August Thursday 24 August. Come along to see the great selection of wonderful books on display in the Susan Arnts Learning Centre. URGENT Dear Families. As part of the school Fete, the Art Show BACE (Beaumaris Art and Craft Exhibition) team are creating a large Art Installation. We require another 310 POM POMS by August 24. We would love you to make as many as you can: any size, any colours with strings attached please. OR please donate wool to the office. Thank you Jenny Dumont Co-ordinator: Beaumaris Art & Craft Exhibition THE SNACK SHACK This coming Monday (21 August), the Snack Shack will be open as usual, however no lunch orders will be prepared as it is Sushi Special Lunch Day. Sushi can only be ordered on Qkr! and orders must be completed by 3pm today. Late orders will not be accepted. Also, just a reminder to families that an emergency lunch consists of a vegemite sandwich (with margarine) and an apple. Emergency lunches must be approved by the teacher and an invoice will be sent home with the student for $3.00. Just a quick update on the survey responses are still being collated and any changes to the menu will be communicated to all families as soon as possible. Thank you, Ellie. NEWS FROM OUR SCHOOL COUNCIL Quotes are being sought for a shade cloth to go over the Chess Board. A shed was constructed at the last whole school working bee to house the giant chess pieces in the vicinity also. The Principal presented an update on the Annual Implementation Plan to Council - results are tracking along well. The School Strategic Plan can be viewed on the School website The Junior School Council gave an excellent presentation on their roles within the School and outlined some of the changes they had made (e.g. line up music), gave an insight into their roles and responsibilities and shared some of their ideas for further future changes. They all spoke eloquently about what it meant to them to be a member of the Junior School Council; how much they were enjoying their roles and the benefits that they felt they were gaining. When asked what they liked best about being at BPS the overwhelming response was all the other students and the teachers! FETE 2017 Art Sale This is the time of year when we are all thinking about our upcoming fete in October. Every Fete year the art room traditionally holds an art sale featuring the students art work. This year we are conducting an art sale but with a twist. The art room is working in conjunction with Crazy Camel Fundraising- Australia s leading supplier of children s art based fundraising products. Crazy Camel is an Australian owned family business offering a range of superbly presented calendars, family planners, pillowcases, greeting cards, notebooks, diaries, sketch pads, iphone cases and tea towels. Every child in the school is currently working on an art piece which can be transformed into a professionally made product. These make popular and affordable gifts for family and friends whilst providing the opportunity of creating a lasting keepsake. The money we raise this year is contributing to fete funds. Money raised will be used for many projects and activities that occur at the school. Every dollar we raise is important and will go to benefit the students at BPS! We are conducting the sale of these attractive products on-line by accessing the Mastercard app Qkr!. This application is designed for the purchase of school products. The official start date is Monday 21 st August and the official closing date is Monday 11 th September This will allow for the printing of the art work on the desired product/s so that the students might collect their order from the Students Art Stall on fete day, the 22 nd of October. If the children are unable to attend on fete day, the goods can be collected from DALGETTY ROAD, PO Box 6140, CROMER 3193 school. With Christmas just around the corner, this is a wonderful opportunity to purchase personalized items featuring your children s individual artwork.
