2 Thank you for supporting Poppy Day in the last week of term. Our school was a part of the ANZAC Day commemoration at the Morrinsville Cenotaph. Thanks to Monique Ball and Rylan Lalich-Tunnicliffe for representing our school. Many of our students were also there representing other local organisations. Lest We Forget Winter Uniform Term 2 and Term 2 starting Monday, April 30th sees us change in to our winter uniform. Please Note: Girls pale blue long sleeve winter blouse is no longer to be worn and is officially replaced with the regulation white long sleeve blouse. ALL pupils must be in correct winter uniform, including PE uniform. All official uniform requirements are able to be purchased through Harry s Menswear and a selection of second hand uniform (mainly boys) is available at school for $2.00 per item. Please note that a scarf, in school colours only, can be worn on cold days. Scarves are not a part of the school uniform and can not be worn on official occasions regardless of school colour. This privilege will be withdrawn if flouted. Black shoes are also a requirement of our school uniform. Please ensure that these are sturdy and waterproof. Training shoes are for PE use only and are not to be worn as part of the correct uniform. Everybody must have an official school jersey and/or school jacket. Regulation ONLY navy blue track pants are optional and can be worn as part of the daily PE uniform over black PE shorts not to be worn to and from school. Black leggings are not to be worn under school uniform tunic or PE shorts. 3 Tuesday, May 1st 2018 Nau mai haere Mai, Welcome to Term 2 Our children and staff looked refreshed and ready for another exciting and action packed term. Term 2 is our dance term. We have the Footsteps Dance Programme taking place each Monday where all students learn dance moves by trained professionals. This is part of our Arts Curriculum. Later on in the term there is a dance disco to showcase what we have learnt. Cross country training starts today. Our year 1-6 students will be practicing long distance running to improve general fitness. This will take place 2-3 times per week. Please make sure that PE uniforms are coming to school every day. Sneakers can be worn for running if preferred. Whole School Mass This Sunday, May 6th we are hosting a Whole School Mass at 9.00am at St Joseph s Church. Our candidates for the First Holy Communion Programme will be presented We would like our students and families to attend. It is a great way to show our support to the parish. We would love to see you there. School uniform to be worn please. Big Fundraiser Our PFC are currently organising our school fundraiser Scrap Metal Drive. This will take place on Sunday 20 May. We need your help! We require helpers for picking up scrap metal, utes, trailers, support crews as well as donations of food to feed the working party. We will post a food list next week via facebook so just reply to that post if you are able to help with catering. Thanks so much. Many hands make light work! Just a reminder...that our school grounds open at 8.15 am. Students should not be on site before this time (unless they are at SKIDS) as supervision is not available. Please help us by making sure that you arrive from 8.15 am onwards. Uniforms There is a uniform committee who have read feedback from the uniform survey held last year. They are currently reviewing and investigating options. There will be no changes to the school uniform this year. If a new uniform has been decided on then there will be a transitional period of two years before it becomes compulsory. God Bless Our Term 2 planner is enclosed this week. Andrea Colebourn, Principal Instead of practicing a skill all at once, revise or practice in shorter bursts over time. This is known as 'spaced practice' and leads to more effective recall of information. So instead of using one 30 minute session to revise something, you will have better recall if you spend 10 minutes over each of three days. Reflection From Pope Francis on Why it is important to attend Mass. We will never thank the Lord enough for the gift he gave us with the Eucharist, the pope said. It s such a great gift and that s why it s so important to go to Mass on Sundays, he said. Mass is a time not just to pray, but to receive Communion this bread that is the body of Christ that saves us, forgives us, reunites us to the father. It s beautiful to do this. Mass on Sundays is particularly important, he said, because it is the day of the resurrection of the Lord, and with the Eucharist we feel our own belonging to the church, to the people of God, to the body of God, to Jesus Christ.
