IGNOU Steaming ahead IGNOU is the name of an effort, an endeavour to bring quality higher education to the doorsteps of a learner, wherever he or she resides. The convenience of distance mode in place of the formal full time scholarship, the facility to study at one s own pace and the flexibility of choosing ones time for test has made IGNOU into the largest university of the World, in terms of enrolment and geographical spread. We at S.P College study centre are doing our bit to fit into the scheme of this ever expanding effort of bridging the gap left by the formal education. And we have not failed. From 1850 candidates registered at the centre during 2012 session. Our enrolment has touched 3400 in Jan 2013, an increase of staggering 86%.Not only this, the programmes offered at the centre have risen from 12(2012) to 18 (2013 Jan),a clean jump of 50%. Catering to the needs of learners of 18 different programmes is a challenge which our centre has faced successfully. From instructing the learners about the assignments sending them to expert evaluators consolidating the award rolls in a proper way for onward transmission to regional centre and above all arranging the most competent counsellor and conducting the counselling sessions on Sundays to the satisfaction of learners, has been done in a smooth, hassle free manner at the centre. We consider this to be a huge achievement. A special challenge was posed by P.G programme of Psychology for which the Lab sessions had to be conducted along with the now routine counselling sessions. This was possible because of the untiring effort of the parttime staff (which increased from 9 to 19 on account of the enhanced enrolment). A special feature of the centre has been the conduct of all types of Exams.
