1 Quarterly Progress Report (April-June 2012) Voluntary Association for Rural Upliftment and Networking (VARUN) Naugarh-Chandauli VARUN is working in 6 villages of (5 primary 1 secondary) with help from Asha-SV in Naugargh block, Chandauli dist. There are 124 boys and 111 girls attending school. 199 are from backward class, 33 OBC and 3 are from general class. Naugarh is around 12-13kms away from each of the centres. Sn. In Dobahi 2 students passed class 5 who have been enrolled in Naugarh. 4. In Hathini kendra 5 th class passed students admission was done in higher classes in Khaliyari, Sonbhadra th class passed students of Sukhdeopur have been given admission in Saraigarh High school, Nagvah block, Sonbhadra by guardians. - Enrollment rate is steadily progressing. - There was a workshop held at village level where overall financial support was discussed and ideas were proposed. This could be used to support children and villages and for other major functioning of the school. - 3 meeting held for teachers. - There was a meeting session held at every center between teachers an parents/guardians.

2 - Monthly tests were held at every center. - This season, Ram-navami festival was held with much show and pomp. - Under Health camp programmes, Family planning, malaria, DOTS, Janani Suraksha national pulse polio campaign, etc were held. School Related Programs On April 30 th and May 1 st, 2012 there was a 2 day Leadership Training program held in which all the volunteers and workers participated. Aim was to develop leadership qualities and was carried out under the guidance of Block incharge Shatrudan Yadav. On 16 th and 17 th May, 2012 one volunteer took part in Gems Organization s held leadership training program at its headquarters in Dihari Aanson, Bihar. Table-II - Details of School Related S.N. Awareness program There was a education awareness program held in which villagers participated with much enthusiasm and support. Through film projector, film was projected in which people were made aware of the education and its importance in growth and progress. In this program, Gems had given support all along. All were encouraged to send children to school and were themselves asked to give importance to education and literacy since this is the only way to progress. Women Organization and Farmer s club related programs Through VARUN there are workshops an programs continuously conducted to spread awareness so that people are benefited. This quarter organization has conducted 8 programs at various places. 1. This quarter there have been 5 sittings in 8 villages in which 161 women and 39 men totaling 200 attendees. In this meeting financial and general problems faced by the community are discussed as to how to avoid difficult situations. 2. There have been 3 meetings held in 3 farmer s clubs in which farming related topics were discussed. There were 10 women and 34 men totaling 44 participants. 2 representatives from BHU, Varanasi visited on farming related work and empowered farmers. Paddy farming is being done in 4 villages with 11 farmers in land of 20acres. About 90kg of seeds from BHU, Varanasi have been distributed to the villagers for helping them in farming.

4 2. 40kg maize was distributed to 33 farmers. 23 farmers of 7 villages of Naugarh block and 10 villagers from 3 villages are farming in 5 acres of land villagers from 7 villages of Naugarh block are doing pumpkin farming in 1.75 acres of land. 4. Slogans were mostly based on education, MNREGA, RTI, panchayat, health, farming and various other social topics. has been given primary importance and it has been the main topic of discussion. 5 In Parsia, world environmental day was held in which people were made aware how important environment is and its related topics were discussed and was stressed on the fact that everyone needs to make an effort and only then the environment will be preserved. Participate in Training 2 day leadership training program has been held with the help of Gems organization at Sikiriya, Dehari Aanson, Bihar in which 1 member took part. There was a workshop done on leadership development. Methods of working and carrying out projects at rural level has been explained at micro level to the participants.
