JAMIE PAHL RESIDENCE: Oxford, NC POSITION: Rector, St. Stephen s, Oxford NOMINATORS: Sam Currin III, Meta Ellington, the Rev. Chantal McKinney Serving on other diocesan committees. Rector of St. Stephen s for over nine years. I would bring leadership experience from serving on other diocesan committees and a desire to serve the diocese. Diocesan Council Lay Order (Vote for 3) FRITZ FALKSON RESIDENCE: Winston-Salem, NC CHURCH: St. Mary s, High Point NOMINATORS: The Rev. David Umphlett, the Rev. Javier Almendarez Bautista, the Rev. Darby Everhard Past Member of the Vestry Convention Delegate Abbot of The Brotherhood of St. Andrew at St. Mary s Parish Christian Formation Committee Member Past Master of Acacia Lodge 674 (twice) In 1998, my wife, Cathy, and I joined St. Mary s in High Point. During my tenure, I have served in many ways including, but not limited to, being on the Vestry, serving as a member Youth Advisory Council and the Adult Formation Committee. Currently, I am the Abbot (President) of the St. Mary s Chapter of the Brotherhood of St. Andrew s. These are exciting times in our Diocese and I would be honored to serve under Bishop Rodman; to support his vision for our diocese in these times. My years of experience, both in church and our broader community, prepares me well for this kind of service. As a lifelong Episcopalian, baptized and confirmed at St. Anne s, Jacksonville, NC, I have witnessed the challenges many have faced over the years and seek to use that experience to serve as a member of Diocesan Council. 1

Mary Balfour Dunlap Eucharistic Minister Jr. Warden Convention Delegate Coordinate Men s Monthly Breakfast and various Committees (planning, outreach) I have been inspired and called to service from a recent Gospel, Matthew 25: Matthew warns us to be prepared and to strengthen our faith with the Holy Spirit and not be foolish. We are in the meantime in our Christian walk, waiting on our Lord to come, and it is our responsibility to use the Holy Spirit to light the way and use our talents and faith to be involved in God s work. I want to continue to service and broaden my focus for the greater church. I believe my experiences with my mission church can offer the Diocese a true perspective of the burning love such churches have for our neighbors and all communities like ours. I am willing and able to service my church for God s greater good and not be foolish. Standing Committee Clergy Order (Vote for 1) THE REV. JOSHUA BOWRON RESIDENCE: Charlotte, NC POSITION: Rector, St. Martin s, Charlotte NOMINATOR: The Rev. Robert Black, the Rev. Sally French, the Rev. B.J. Owens I ve been an active member of the clergy in this diocese for 6+ years I am a member of the Missional Leadership Cohort at Luther Seminary I serve on the sub-committee of the investment committee exploring ethical investment I have served as a trustee to the University of the South I am the rector of thriving urban parish I would like to further the missional voice on the Standing Committee. As our culture continues to evolve, I would like to be a resource for helping our diocese learning to listen to the movement of God already in the world through our neighbors so that we can continue to be a thriving, agile institution. 2

3 Standing Committee Lay Order (Vote for 2) WADE H. CHESTNUT III RESIDENCE: Raleigh, NC CHURCH: Good Shepherd, Raleigh NOMINATOR: The Rev. Jemonde Taylor, the Rev. Miriam Saxon, the Rev. Dr. N. Brooks Graebner As a cradle Episcopalian growing up in St. Mark s Church (Wilmington) in the Diocese of East Carolina, I have been blessed in developing many skills and competencies, through senior management experiences with international exposure in corporate, government and institutions for social justice, all while deepening my spiritual faith. Many of the beneficiaries of these experiences have been those on what I call the margins of society. Hands-on and in-depth knowledge relating to the Episcopal Church have resulted from attending the 2015 General Convention of the Episcopal Church and Diocesan Conventions; sering on Diocesan Council; the History and Archives Committee; the Bishop s Committee on Accessibility; the Board of Episcopal campus Ministry of Raleigh; the School of Ministry Advisory Council; three Vestries; and serving as Diocesan Disaster Coordinator, Subdeacon, Lector, Chalicist and 62 years as an Acolyte. It is these life acquired competencies, skills and experiences that I offer and bring, if elected, as a member to the Diocesan Standing Committee. JEREMY CLOS RESIDENCE: Raleigh, NC CHURCH: Church of the Nativity, Raleigh NOMINATOR: The Rev. Stephanie Allen, the Rev. Lorraine Ljunggren, the Rev. Nita Byrd Senior Warden, Nativity, 2017 Vestry, Nativity Convention Delegate Lay Eucharistic Minister, Sunday Schol teacher, I am a lifelong Christian raised as the son of a minister in Maysville, KY. I ve been actively involved in the life of our parish and diocese since my wife and I began attending Nativity in For many years, I ve been involved in Arts Management and served on the boards of various arts organizations in the Triangle. I m as excited as ever about grace and the message of Jesus Christ, and feel that the Standing Committee would be a place where I could continue to dedicate myself to service. 3

Since retiring, I have committed myself to giving to the non-profit community the knowledge I gained in 37 years in the business community, and now I would like to serve the diocese on the Standing Committee. 4

5 ANNETTE MONTGOMERY RESIDENCE: Durham, NC CHURCH: St. Philip s, Durham NOMINATOR: The Rev. Stephanie Yancey, the Rev. Katherine Bradley Johnson, the Rev. Dan Laird 18 years active commitment at St. Philips in a variety of capacities (see partial below) Four years as Lay Delegate to Diocesan Convention plus the Special Convention 30 years serving on appointed civic boards focused on environment, trails and greenways, land use and transportation - advising governing boards Professional life (below) - designer and CRE broker History of a number of years serving as volunteer/paid event planner Through experience of four years as Lay Delegate to Diocesan Convention plus the Special Convention, I ve come to learn more about the organization and rhythm of the diocese and would welcome additional ways to serve. Additionally, I feel that my professional experience as contract interior designer (13 years) and commercial real estate broker (20+ years) equip me with useful skills. With more than 30 years actively serving on appointed civic boards, I have a lot of experience in creating initiatives to address a variety of issues and advising governing boards. While my participation with choir and flower guild serves to enhance the worship service, being the Wedding Coordinator creates a special hostess opportunity to welcome the stranger(s). Serving on the Dinner Team for The Episcopal Center at Duke University allows me to observe youth with continued interest in church and a faith journey. Commitment of service is valuable. MEARS PITT RESIDENCE: Tarboro, NC CHURCH: Calvary, Tarboro NOMINATOR: The Rev. Janey Wilson, Alice B. Freeman, Kristine S. Daynes Diocesan Transition Committee 2017 Multiple Vestry Terms at Calvary Parish Co-Owner and President of Ace Hardware in Tarboro, NC Member of Rotary International Member of Renewal Works Team at Calvary Mears is a life long member of Calvary Episcopal Church in Tarboro, NC and has served on the vestry three times, serving as the Senior Warden twice and the Junior Warden twice. He was also a member of the Transition Committee during the election process which elected Bishop Rodman, and will be serving on the Faith and Morals Committee at this Convention. He is married to Courtney Pitt and they have two children, Ben 11 and Caroline 8. Being active in the Diocese has been a wonderful experience, and Mears would consider it an honor to serve in this capacity if elected. 5

6 Board of Trustees, University of the South (Sewanee) Clergy Order (Vote for 1) THE REV. JOSHUA BOWRON RESIDENCE: Charlotte, NC POSITION: Rector, St. Martin s, Charlotte NOMINATOR: The Rev. Brad Smith, the Rev. Milton C. Williams, Thomas Schlitt Student Body President of the School of Theology while a student, graduated 2011 Currently enrolled at the School of Theology at the University of the South in the Advanced Degrees Program Three years as a trustee of the associated alumni Current chaplain at Palisades Episcopal School, dedication to Episcopal Education Member of the National Association of Episcopal Schools I have a deep and abiding love for the ethos of the University of the South. I am currently enrolled in the Advanced Degrees program at the School of Theology, consequently I visit frequently and as a result of my time as a trustee, I am familiar with the master plan of the university. I would like to be a voice on the board of trustees that continues to strengthen the particular Episcopal ethos that sets Sewanee apart as an institution that nurtures that spirit as well as the mind. Additionally, I would like to advocate for Sewanee in the diocese of NC. Sewanee is an institution that touches the Episcopal Church like few others, through the seminary, but also through the EfM program. 6
