1 JANNALI PUBLIC SCHOOL 107 Sutherland Rd, Jannali NSW 2226 P: F: Year 5-6 Boys Only State Dance Workshops Nominations are now being accepted from boys in Years 5 to 6 interested in attending the 2016 Boys only State Dance Workshops. The Workshops will be held on 1-2 March at the Sydney Dance Company Studios at The Wharf, Pier 4, 15 Hickson Road, Walsh Bay. The Workshops are designed to encourage and foster boys in Dance. All tutors are great male role models and across the two days the boys will explore a variety of dance styles including: Hip Hop, B-Boy breakdancing, Jazz, Contemporary and Musical Theatre. Don t miss out on this fantastic opportunity to encourage more boys into the world of Dance. 2 Term 1 Week 4 PRINCIPAL S MESSAGE Welcome BBQ & Disco It was lovely to see so many families turn up to the Welcome BBQ and Disco. The weather was perfect and the food delicious. Thank you to the P&C and staff for organising such a great event. A special thanks to Mr Beattie for once again being on BBQ duty. Some photos have been put up on our Official Facebook Page. Reclassification The Department of Education has made some changes on how they classify schools. It used to be that schools were classified by the number of students. Now schools are being classified by the complexity of the school, taking into account students on Funding Support and how much money the school receives from the Government to run the school. Under the new classification system Jannali Public School has been reclassified as a P1 which means that we no longer have a Teaching Principal. Notes and Return Dates All notes that require payment and/or require definite numbers of students attending have to be signed and returned to the office by the due date on the note. Once this date has passed we can no longer accept payments or additional numbers for attendance and unfortunately your child will miss out on the excursion/ activity. The reason we have a due date is that there are a number of administration procedures that need to be completed by Kay or Julie prior to the excursion/activity. These require quite a bit of time and the office also needs time to process payments and requests from bus companies and the venues where the students will be going. Please note that legally we cannot take your child on an excursion without a signed permission form. If you send your child s note back unsigned but pay your child will not be able to attend the excursion. To avoid disappointment please check you have signed all notes and they are returned to school with any payments before the cut off date. Meet the Teacher On Wednesday we had our Meet the Teacher sessions where you got to meet your child s teacher and learnt what they hope to achieve over the year. They would have discussed their expectations for behaviour, homework and discussed things like their timetable and/or routines. If you still have some unanswered questions or have any concerns about your child please make sure you see your child s class teacher. They are almost always available straight after the school bell or you can make an appointment at the office to organise a convenient time for you both, We will be having formal parent/teacher interviews in week 9 of this term. The Jannali High School Open Night Wednesday the 24 February, TJHS is having their Open Night for students and their families who may be interested in attending TJHS in Year 7. There is a BBQ, run as a fundraiser by the Year 12 students, from 5:00-5:45pm, and the presentation begins in the hall at 6:00pm. This will be a fantastic opportunity to see TJHS and what it has to offer your child in regards to their high school education. 3 Message from Miss Taylor Term 1 Week 4 I would like to remind you all of some of our expectations in the playground. Toys: We encourage students to keep their toys at home. This ensures that they do not go missing or get broken. If your child has a special toy for news they can give it to the teacher to mind. Safety: No students should be at school before 8:40am, unless circumstances are exceptional and unavoidable. If this is the case, students must be seated on the silver seats until the 8:40am bell and a teacher is on duty. Footballs and Soccer balls: These items are to be used only at lunch time when students can use the grass area. Hats: Please encourage your child to be responsible for their school hat each day. We have a small number of school hats if your child has forgotten theirs that day, however, these are not to be used on a day to day basis. Behaviour: I held a school discussion last week to remind all students of the behaviour expectations we have while they are at school. Just a reminder that each day, class teachers will award 2 students who have been working well and following our 3Bs with a 3B award. On another note, all students have received a Mathletics and Reading Eggs password. These programs compliment class activities and studies extremely well. Teachers are able to set particular tasks to consolidate what students are learning and create differentiated activities for our diverse learners. Reading Eggs is a great tool for students to practise reading, fluency, comprehension, and other reading related tasks. Have a great fortnight! Michelle Taylor Ethics Year 1-2 have been fortunate enough to start Philosophical ethics classes this term, as an option for students not attending SRE, with Kindergarten and year 5-6 yet to start. The Kindergarten Ethics teacher is on track to start later in the term but we still need a volunteer for year 5-6 Ethics. You don t have to be qualified and all training is provided. Clean Up Australia Day started as Clean Up Sydney Harbour Day in 1989 and since then volunteers on Clean Up Australia Day have collected over 210,000 tonnes of rubbish that s 5 million household wheelie bins! On Friday 4th March we will be participating in the Clean Up Australia s Schools Clean Up Day for Students and staff will work together to clean up our beautiful school, inspiring students to learn about their environment and contribute to their local community.
