We wish everyone the best of luck and thank Mr Beard/Mrs Blogg for attending and organising the before school training sessions with our team over the past few weeks. We hope that as many parents as possible are able to come down and spectate on the day. ANZAC Service: This year as ANZAC Day falls during the school holidays, the school will be holding a very small service on the first day of Term 2 (Wednesday 26 April). We are hoping that as many students as possible join our school group and march with us at the City of Albany ANZAC Day march and ceremony on 25 April Please read the ANZAC Parade notice in the body of this newsletter if your children are interested in joining us. Annual Report: The LGPS 2016 Annual Report is now available on our website. This report highlights the achievements, progress and student results achieved in It provides a detailed summary of our great school in terms of our special programs and focus areas. This report has been discussed in great detail at our recent School Board meeting and is a great way to celebrate our student s success in Have a cuppa, and enjoy reading what we achieved in 2016 and our future directions in Brant Garvey Talk. Don t miss an inspiring talk by Brant Garvey (Paralympian) on Tuesday 28 March Our school is subsidising this visit and inspirational talk, but we would appreciate a $2 donation at the door. This special event is open to all parents, students PP-Yr 6 and community members. Please read the flyer in this newsletter and come along. Lets inspire our community to have resilience and adopt the noxcuses philosophy. LGPS P&C needs your help. 2 TOO EARLY!!! It is great to see that students are keen to come to school - although we have a huge amount of students who are arriving at school way too early. Students who have a valid reason to arrive before 8.30am must sit in the senior wet area for safety reasons. They may then make their way to classrooms etc. at 8.30am. Fees and Charges Thank you to the families who have already paid this years contributions to the school. Statements have been sent home with students today advising parents of any payments due. Please feel free to come and set up a payment plan at the office as some families find it easier to budget this way this can include payments for future excursions, swimming lessons, camp or contribution payments. Payments can be made at the office anytime between 8am-3pm via cash or EFTPOS. Direct Bank payment can be paid using the following bank details: Account name: Little Grove Primary School BSB: Account number: Reference: Student Surname, Initial and Fees eg: Brown.M. 3 Chaplain s Chat HONOUR CERTIFICATES Congratulations to these students who were awarded with an Honour Certificate at the assembly held on 10 March 2017 Centre 2 Chayse Milla Room 2 Amber Chad Room 3 Gracie Thomas Room 6 Jarrah Lily Room 7 Jazmin Jarvi Room 8 Luke Mackenzie Room 10 Jasmine Joshua I recently found a brilliant article from titled, Raising Boys The most brilliant advice for mums, from a dad! Here are two of my favourite points; THINK CAVEMAN!! Whilst us ladies and our girls have thousands of emotional states, boys tend to feel one of three; MAD, SAD or HAPPY!! I know it s so hard to understand, but when our boys have had a really bad day, they really aren t interested in having a lengthy discussion about the meaning of life It really is all about POO!! Yes, for boys, going to the loo for number twos really is the highlight of their day. So when your six year old sits down for dinner, then frantically needs the loo, don t be surprised, it s probably the first time all day he s sat still long enough to realise HE HAS TO GO!! Stay tuned I ll share a couple more points in the next newsletter. Regards Belle Grant Chaplain This Fortnights Groovy Grover News! WEEK 8 FOCUS: Report unacceptable behaviour - This falls under the heading of Be Responsible on our Behavioural Expectations matrix. WEEK 9 FOCUS: Deal with disagreement calmly and positively - This falls under the heading of Build Resilience on our Behavioural Expectations matrix.
4 Scitech Incursion
5 Bird Watching Incursion Clean up Australia Day! Last week classes were treated to a very informative talk about local bird species from volunteers from Bird Life WA. Then, in small groups they were taught how to use binoculars to spot and identify Australian birds. The students had a great time walking around school grounds using their binoculars to try and locate and identify birds. Although the birds on this day were few and far between, the students did enjoy themselves and appreciated the experience. We are very happy to report that the amount of rubbish collected around our school and community was very minimal. Which is a great reflection on our community spirit and pride. Well done everyone.
6 Keep Safe! SCHOOL DRESSES HAVE ARRIVED You may have seen some very excited girls around the school wearing the new school dress. Two presenters from Kids Safe came and gave an informative talk to our Year 1 to 3 students on Safety this week. The students watched a short presentation on safety issues for children on the roads, at home and at school. The children were told how many kids have to visit hospital every year for injuries caused by unsafe practices and how important it is to help keep themselves safe by following instructions and rules. This great session was received well by all students and staff who attended. This is a non compulsory addition to the Uniform Shop. Costs are size 4,6,8 $55 and size 10, 12,14 $60. For those parents/ carers who completed the expression of interest form last year your dresses are being held ready for collection & payment from the Uniform Shop. Last day we can hold these dresses for you is Friday 31 March After this date dresses will become Uniform Shop Stock and will be sold on. If you wish to place an order for a dress please see the uniform shop. To order uniform pieces at anytime: Please complete an order form from the office or see us on Monday morning in the Uniform Shop. Little Grove P&C NEEDS volunteers to join the committee or take on an office bearer position at the AGM on 4 April The P&C operate within the school to provide The Canteen Uniform Shop Fundraising to support the school with additional resources that benefit all students. With NO P&C Committee or Quorum at Meetings, all benefits the P&C provide for your children at our school will disappear. PLEASE JOIN US!
