On the final Friday of the half term a girls football team from Years 3/4 took part in the final of a competition organised by Albion in the Community and managed to win! They have brought home a fantastic cup which is just being engraved before going on display in our very full trophy cabinet! Year 4 have visited Fishbourne as part of their Roman Topic and Year 3 have enjoyed a Stone Age WOW day. Our choir have been out to sing at the local Methodist church and three sports teams have represented us in locality competitions: 3/4 Football, 5/6 Tag Rugby and 5/6 Cricket. Year 6 have started to attend various transition sessions at Shoreham Academy or the secondary school they will be joining in September. We have also met the parents of the children who will be entering our Reception classes in September. They joined us for a meeting where we were able to talk about the curriculum in EYFS and have a good look at the incredible learning environments they will be working in. As we think about next year we will have a few staffing changes to announce. The first one which we would like to share with you is that Kristen Fawcett, our Deputy Head, will be leaving at the end of the Summer Term. He has not been in school as much as normal this year as he has been supporting another REAch2 school, several days a week, to help improve their Year 6 results. He has in fact already relocated to Buckinghamshire but enjoys working in our school so much that he has been travelling back to work each week, a round trip of over 150 miles! Unfortunately this arrangement cannot last forever so he has successfully applied for a new role, as Deputy Head, in a school nearer home. We will all miss him as he has contributed so much during his time at Eastbrook. I am sure you will join me in wishing him well. We will definitely be keeping in touch with him, especially as he is due to become a father later in the year. We have not had to look far for a replacement as there is so much talent and experience in our school; I am delighted to inform you that our new Deputy Head will be Natalie Lay. Many of you will already know her as she has been a teacher for many years at our school and is currently working in early years. If you don t know her you will have plenty of opportunities to meet her over the course of next year. We hope to see lots of you at the Summer Fair tomorrow. Julia Sherlock (Headteacher) Summer Fair and Fun Run Don t forget our Summer Fair and Fun Run will take place on Saturday 16th June (tomorrow). The running starts at 11 am with the fair running until 2.30pm. More details are available later in this Newsletter, including a sponsor form for the run.

3 Ice Cream Friday Returns! A range of ice creams will be for sale after school every Friday (when the weather is suitable). All profits go to the PTA to support various initiatives across the school. This Friday only there will also be a second hand book sale organised by Mrs Green s Maths Set. School Uniform We would like to take this opportunity to remind parents that we expect children to dress appropriately for school. This includes sensible black shoes (trainers or flip flop style sandals are not suitable for everyday use). We also ask that pupils do not wear jewellery, apart from simple stud-earrings (which must be removed for all sporting activities) and/or a watch. Finally we strongly discourage hairstyles with shaved patterns, high spikes and dyed hair. Thank you for your support in maintaining standards at our school. Collecting Pupils from School As parents/carers are aware, the school day finishes at 3pm for pupils in YR to Y2 and at 3.05pm for pupils in Years 3 to 6. We appreciate that occasionally parents can be delayed and we will take messages and ensure your child is kept safe. However staff have a range of roles to complete at the end of the day and if you are regularly late collecting your child or your child is not collected by 3.25pm, then we may ask them to join the Skoolz Out club until you can arrive at school. If this happens regularly we will consider making a charge. We would encourage that all pupils are collected promptly at the end of the day. Thank you for your co-operation. Solving Crime with Science Many of our Year 5 children have been given the chance to attend different activities at Christ s Hospital. This week a group went with Mrs Walker to act as forensic scientists and solve a range of clues using their scientific knowledge. We were very proud of the way they all worked. Their behaviour was also perfect. More trips will follow to this very impressive local school.

4 Class Attendance School attendance is incredibly important as it can have an impact on your child with both their learning and their friendship groups. Our school target is to be in line with national figures: 96% Each week classes have the opportunity to win attendance prizes for the best attendance and least number of recorded lates. Well done to the following classes : w/ending 25th May 2018 KS1 1st place 1EB with 98.67%, KS2 1st place 5SJ with 97.74% Whole School Attendance w/ending 25th May = 93.88% w/ending 8th June 2018 KS1 1st place 2NO with 97.33%, KS2 1st place 6VW with 99.63% Whole School Attendance w/ending 8th June = 95.05% Intergenerational Projects There have been several opportunities recently for our pupils to work with, or perform to, people of an older generation. The first was a project organised as part of Shoreham Wordfest: Generation Gap? What Generation Gap? We Two is a new initiative committed to bringing the generations together to create great art. This summer, We Two launches with workshops at Eastbrook, North Lancing, Our Lady of Sion and St Nicholas and St Mary schools. Published novelist Richard Bingham and professional artist Angela Edwards will lead the sessions. These proved very popular, with some great art work and creative writing being produced. Eastbrook Choir Our choir also had the opportunity to entertain a group of elders, who meet regularly at our local Methodist Church. It was a pleasure to see the different generations talking to each other. One lady, who was celebrating her 96th birthday, said the children singing to her was the best present she could ever have had!
