2 Newsletter and School Communicator This week we have made hard copies of the newsletter for all families. However, from next week we will only be sending hard copies to parents who do not have access to a computer or smart phone and are unable to receive the newsletter via the Communicator or download from the website, The newsletter will also be downloaded on the children s tablets. Please note: Should you wish to receive a hard copy of the newsletter, please forward a note to your child s register teacher. Hard copies will only be made for parents who have requested them. Please make use of the School Communicator This software programme App will ensure reliable and up to date communication with you, the parent/guardian. This is a very simple and easy to use programme and can be installed on your home and/or work computer/s. This will allow us to keep up to date on a daily basis as to what is happening at school. This will include the newsletter, photos, sporting fixtures, contact details, etc. The Communicator updates itself via your internet connection. To download, you can make use of one of the following options: 1. Download the software directly from the Website using the following URL OR 2. Download the App D6 Communicator and follow the instructions. 3. If we do not receive this levy, we will not be able to load the software onto your child s tablet and they will continue working from hard copy text books.. In addition a further Resolution was passed that an annual levy of R200,00 per child for learners Grade 1 3 will be paid before end January This will cover the cost of the trolley solution with tablets we have purchased for our Foundation Phase learners. IMPORTANT NOTICE: IF YOU PAY THE R350,00 (INTERSEN PHASE) OR R200,00 (FOUNDATION PHASE) VIA EFT, REFERENCE TO BE USED IS YOUR CHILD S NAME AND E-LEVY. DO NOT PAY THIS AMOUNT WITH YOUR SCHOOL FEES. IT MUST BE A SEPARATE PAYMENT. IF YOU PUT THE PAYMENT THROUGH WITH SCHOOL FEES IT WILL NOT BE TRANSFERRED TO E-LEVY.
3 Interactive Whiteboard Levy As we now have interactive whiteboards in all classrooms, a Resolution was passed at the Annual General Meeting in October where a whiteboard levy of R100,00 per child per year will be charged for the maintenance of interactive whiteboards during the course of Please send the money as soon as possible in a clearly marked envelope WHITEBOARD LEVY and your child s name and hand it in to your child s register teacher. PLEASE DO NOT DO AN EFT FOR THE WHITEBOARD LEVY. Academic Detailed information regarding Assessment Activities for this term will be issued within the next couple of weeks. PE Uniform - prices: Golf Shirt: R 140,00 Shorts: R 120,00 Tracksuit: R 360,00 (Dependent on size) Caps: R 50,00 Beanies: R 60,00 Round Hats: R 60,00 ***we have limited stock of Tracksuits at 2016 prices. Once sold out orders will be taken. PLEASE NOTE: This year due to many short terms and congestion of sports, we will be having trials straight away at the beginning of the season for all sporting codes. We will have 2 sets/days of trials per age group. If your child misses the trials a doctor s note will be required or they will not be permitted to participate in that sport. Brackenhurst Primary offers MANY MANY sporting and cultural activities. Feel free to try out for any of these, and if you are not selected for one, there are many others to try. There will be many development clinics on offer throughout the year for all who want to increase their skills in certain sporting disciplines. CHESS: Tryouts will be done in January as follows: Junior Team (Grade 1 & 2) : Monday, 23 January 13:45 14:15 Intermediate Team (Grade 3 & 4): Wednesday, 25 January 14:15 14:45 Senior Team (Grade 5 to 7): Monday, 30 January 14:15 14:45 All those who missed the above dates will have a chance on Wednesday, 1 February from 14:15 14:45 All these tryouts will be held in Ms Tamsen s class, G29. The squads will consist of : Junior players limited to 8 Intermediatae players limited to 10 Senior Squad limited to 14 From this group the final teams will be chosen for the league. Practices will commence on 6 February as follows: Monday: Gr 3-7: (14:15-15:15) Mrs Downs Tuesday: Gr 1-2: (13:45-14:30 Ms Tamsen Gr 3-7: (14:15-15:15) Mr Bailie Wednesday: Gr1-2 (14:15-15:00_ Mrs Jawahar Thursday: Gr3-7 (14:30-15:30) Mrs Robinson/Mrs Park Friday: Matches: Home matches: Mrs Downs/Mrs Robinson/Mrs Park Away matches: Ms Tamsen/Mrs Jawahar Saturdays: Tournaments: Mr Bailie East Rand League: The league will commence on 5 May and will run during the 2 nd and 3 rd Terms, ie. 5 May 9 June. Then from 4 August to 22 September. Tournaments: We have the following dates for tournaments: Martin Primary: 25 March (Confirmed) Kenton Primary: 22 April (To be confirmed) Dinwiddie Primary: 13 May (To be confirmed) Brackenhurst Primary: 26 August (Confirmed) GOLF: Golf will begin early February. It is an own cost sport and will run every Monday until the end of the year. More information to follow. TENNIS: Tennis will begin at the end of January there will be a demonstration for Grade 1,2 and 3 and info will be issued regarding private coaching. We do however offer Free Tennis to all interested. FREE TENNIS will begin at the end of January. Free Tennis is on Mondays. If you are interested to play please sign up at the tennis courts with
5 Coach Rudolph on Monday before your practice time: Grade 1&2: 13:40 14:05 Grade 3&4: 14:30 15:00 Grade 5-7: 14:30-15:00 Please contact Rudolph on ZUMBA: Brackenhurst offers an outside extra mural for all girls and boys alike. ZUMBA is a fun and energetic session. It is for your own cost. ZUMBA will be running throughout the year. More info to follow. TOUCH RUGBY: League this term will be primary school league and girls and boys from Grade 3-7 are invited to participate in this league. Touch will be starting soon for our Grade 3-7 boys and girls. We are looking forward to this new adventure. With skilled coaches teaching our little players, skills co-ordination and basics of the game. There is no need to fear, Touch is a NON-CONTACT sport. Registration letters will be issued on Monday 16 January for upcoming clinics. Touch Rugby Clinic R25 (this includes light refreshments) u/12 u/14: 25 January : 14:30 16:00 u/9 u/11: 26 January: 14:30 16:30 Touch Rugby Trials: u/12 u/14: 31 January: 14:30 16:00 u/9 u/11: 1 February: 14:30 16:30 A letter will be issued a trials to all those who have been selected as part of the touch rugby team. There will only be one boys team and one girls team per age group. SO DON T MISS OUT. GOOD LUCK to all t hose who want to try out. Athletics: The athletics season is beginning: We are very proud of our athletes who complete at the highest level every practice scheduled for them. Letters will be issued to all who are participating in the Brackenhurst Athletics Team. Practise times: Every morning during long register at school, we will train long distance, sprints and relay. You may come to school in your PE uniform. Afternoon Practise Times: Monday, Wednesday and Friday: Specialised training (by invitation only): 14:30 15:30 Tuesday and Thursday: ALL athletes 14:30 15:30 Monday, Tuesday and Thursday: Long distance 14:30 15:30 Please note learners may wear their PE uniform to train in at school or their athletics kit. ATHLETICS KIT WILL ONLY BE AVAILABLE THROUGH ORDER AT BRACKENHURST PRIMARY. Final Team Selection: This will take place the week of 2 February at the FRIENDLY event, and a letter will be issued to all those who qualify to participate at the Interschools. Grade One Run Offs: These will take place during school on Thursday 26 January. Please note that this is during school time and parents are unfortunately not allowed to attend. Our annual Interhouse athletics event will take place in the third term where all parents are allowed to attend. All grade ones may wear their PE uniform on 26 January. Letters will be issued to all runners who are selected for the athletics team. Names will also be placed on the Communicator. Interschools 9 February 2017: Our annual Interschools event will take place on Thursday, 9 February. Further details to follow. Parents are more than welcome to attend this event. Training will commence on Monday, 16 January The athletics season is a very short season and so all who are selected MUST attend
