Message from the Headteacher: It has been a great week for sport at St John s. Thank you Mrs Griffin and Mrs Toulson who organised an excellent Sports Day, and to all the staff and governor volunteers who helped keep the children hydrated and shaded on a very hot day. We were very proud of the pupils who represented us at the county finals at the University of Bath on Wednesday. We finished a very respectable 4 th place in gymnastics and tennis, and Indiana and Ella had the honour of reading the athletes pledge at the start of the day. As there has been so much excitement this week and with the fayre being this evening, we have decided to issue the End of Year reports on Monday. If you have any questions for teachers, they will be happy to meet with you after school on Monday or make an appointment for a convenient time for you. Parents of Year 6 should please note that results of SAT tests will not be released until the 10 th of July; you will receive these in a separate document in due course. We are extremely proud of the high levels of attainment of the Early Years, Year 1 and Year 2 in their statutory tests this year, and indeed of all of the children s achievements across the curriculum. We really appreciate the support you show of the school. To that end, there are a few requests and reminders for parents in this newsletter which help us to maintain our focus on providing the best that we can for all pupils, and to ensure that pupils are safe and attend regularly. The PTA will be resending you a copy of Y6 leavers messages now that 6D have had the opportunity to complete these with Miss David. There were also some minor amendments and additions needed to Miss Gundry s class. You will receive this by the end of term I look forward to working with our new Parent Governor, Mr Steve Smith, who was recently elected unopposed, as the Governing Body continues to focus on supporting the school with pupil progress, curriculum enhancement and the school potentially joining the Midsomer Norton Schools Partnership. Please join us for our Learning Celebration next Friday morning. The children love to take this opportunity to display and share their learning with you. Ruby H for excellent effort in our production preparation Attendance: Term time holidays will not be authorised by the school unless the circumstances are exceptional. These absences come to the attention of the education welfare service, especially when compounded by other absences, which may have been unavoidable. The school will continue to issue penalty notices as it is our duty to ensure pupils do not miss school without good reason. Social Media Please can we remind parents that when attending school events, that we permit the use of cameras and mobile phones to take pictures but ask parents not to post pictures of other people s children on social media. Please respect this policy. Traffic We have had some concerns from the local community regarding inconsiderate parking by parents. Please could we again ask everyone to be aware of those who live and work near us and ensure that any cars parked provide access to those who need it. ParentPay As we are nearing then end of the school year, we would be grateful if you could all check your ParentPay accounts and ensure that all outstanding balances are cleared. Should you have any queries, please come and speak to the School Office as soon as possible. Thank you. Year 4, 5 and 6 Swimming Due to changes in the national curriculum, this term is a refresher term. Next week s swimming will be for some children from Years 4 and 5 and the whole of 6D. Children must have shorts and a t-shirt in addition to their normal costume to complete the self rescue. If your child is one of those who will be swimming this term you will be informed by ParentMail. Maypole A reminder, that there will be no Maypole dancing club next week.

Over the past 6 months, benches have been painted, stage is now usable all year, we have a wonderful range of dressing up costumes and accessories. Each Tuesday and Thursday, children enjoy music played behind a DJ booth. Chalkboard, den making resources, a bubble machine, soft toys and cars are all part of this wonderful area for Play. Many thanks to 2G who celebrated the opening and once again thank you for all your support in collecting those tokens for St John's! 4 SPORTS WEEK

5 Rugby Club Due to cancellation of both key stage 1 and key stage 2 rugby club this week, children will be able to attend two sessions next week. Both key stages are invited to attend the club on Tuesday and Thursday to make up for the lost sessions. Gymnastics & Tennis On Wednesday our year 5/6 gymnastics team and our year 3/4 tennis players attended the county finals held at the university of Bath training village. Not only did we have a fantastic day, Indie and Ella read the oath for the games during the opening ceremony in front of over 1000 people! Both teams were excellent in their sport and came fourth overall. The standard was extremely high but I m so proud of everyone who competed. Well done guys! We were also lucky enough to meet with an international netball champion. We have also raised over 400 so far for the charity inspired through sport and sponsor money is still coming in! What an amazing total so far and thank you to everyone that has supported us! The cut off date for any sponsorship money is next Friday. We have had an exciting week focussing on the theme of leading a healthy lifestyle. We have met a silver medalist in wrestling and participated in circuit training workshops with him. We have attended a dance workshop, took part in orienteering around our school field and cycled on the smoothie bike that visited us in 5K Muddy Run Well done to Josh U, Oliver R, Imogen R and Adelaide R Joshua has so far have raised 500 and counting. They showed great courage, determination, teamwork and friendship as well as raising lots of money for this important cause, helping to find a cure for cancer.
