Through cashless catering and ParentPay no-one knows who is on free school meals or not, so any stigma has disappeared. Also we get additional funding for FSM students which we use specifically for them, thus they will get various activities and resources for free. If you wish to apply please contact klacey@shsg.org. Ms Lacey will treat all applications in the strictest confidence. Last year we started a new tradition of carol singing in the local area. This year we will be near Thorpe Bay station (on the north side) on December 16 th around 4pm for an hour or so raising money for charity. Thank you to Ms Ryan for organising this on top of two concerts, a carol service and our end of term assembly music. Ms Brierley, Head Teacher

2 School Christmas Dinner The School Christmas dinner is on Thursday 15 th December. Please note that Monday 5 th December is the deadline to purchase a ticket from the school bank. It costs 4.50 and payment is by cash or cheque, it s not an option on Parentpay. There will be no other food options or spare food on the day. Christmas Concert Tickets Tickets are priced at 6 adults/ 4 concessions Each concert starts in the school hall at 7.30pm The following ensembles will perform on each night: Tuesday 13 th December SHSG Choir Sax Ensemble Highly Strung A Capella Clarinet Ensemble Brass Band 7A 7B 7C Wednesday 14 th December Chamber Choir Novem Consort Rock Band Training Strings Training Wind Guitar Ensemble 7D 7E 7F *Orchestra, Wind Band and Big Band will perform on both evenings. Christmas Concert tickets are on sale from the School Bank. All Year 7s perform their class Christmas song in the concert and we cannot guarantee that tickets will be available on the door buy yours now to avoid disappointment! 3 SHSG Chamber Choir The SHSG Chamber Choir will be in concert with 'Cantare' at 7:30pm tomorrow (Saturday 3 rd December) at Holy Trinity Church, Rayleigh. Year 10 GCSE History - Berlin Trip June 2017 Please be reminded, that consent forms and deposits for the GCSE History trip to Berlin in June 2017 must be received by Friday, 9 December Maths Angels and Maths online tuition sessions Maths Angels and Maths teacher led on line tuition sessions will be running on Tuesday and Thursday evenings The sessions for the coming week are: Tuesday 6 th December 6:50 Maths Angels 7:15 Year 9 revision for test (number and algebra). Year 10 can join in for optional revision Thursday 8 th December 6:50 Maths Angels 7:15 Year 7 Problem solving with area and circumference of circles Well done Talia Talia L in Year 11 competed successfully against thousands of other singers from around the country last month, gaining a place in the prestigious National Youth Choir of Great Britain. Many congratulations! Congratulations Joanna, Year 11 Very well done to Joanna R who was one of the Barclays Ball Kids at the Barclays ATP World Tour recently when Andy Murray became champion! Many of the ballkids described it as the best week of their lives! Stamps We are still collecting used postage stamps for the RNIB charity. Please donate all the used stamps from your Christmas cards this festive season.

4 Ho, ho, ho! Christmas has come early! Parents Association If you are still looking for that perfect Christmas present why not buy some raffle prize tickets at our upcoming Shakespeare evenings Comedy of Errors on Thursday December 8th and Friday December 9th, 2016 or at our Christmas Concerts on Tuesday December 13th and Wednesday December 14th, 2016 (tickets for both events are on sale via the school bank). We have a fabulous selection of prizes for each event which you might even want to keep to yourself! Comedy of Errors - prizes: Voucher from Rich Spa "Fitness 4 less -voucher Keymed Camera Tickets for Southend United Christmas Concert-prizes: Afternoon tea at Hotel Claridges Clements Hall gym voucher Signed Jamie Oliver cook book Mountain biking coaching session The tickets will be sold on both nights prior to the event and during the intervals of each event while you are enjoying some seasonal refreshments provided to you at a small charge by the school s PA (proceeds of which will go towards the drama and music departments). The raffle prize tickets cost 2 each or 10 per strip (which consists of 5 tickets) or 2 strips for 15. The draw of all the raffle tickets will be done on the final night of the performances (on Friday 9 th December for the Shakespeare play prizes and on Wednesday 14 th December for the Christmas Concert prizes). Should you not be attending those particular evenings, you will be notified and the prize will be held for you by the school for your collection. HELPERS NEEDED The PA is providing refreshments at the Shakespeare Play (8 th and 9 th December) and the Christmas Concerts (13 th and 14 th December).6 people are needed on each evening to help set up, serve the refreshments and clear away from 7-9pm.
