3 ISC-Manama Newsletter Term 2 Issue Features Arabic Poetry Night Science Fair & Art Exhibition On March 8, 2018, ISC-Manama hosted its second Arabic Poetry Night. On March 3, 2018, the auditorium held our annual Sscience Fair & Art Exhibition. 6 Bahrain National Day On December 14, 2017, the whole school came together to celebrate the country which has given us so much. The event provided fun and educational activities that kept the children occupied and their parents engaged, such as Dawama and Carom. A large selection of customary food was offered, as well as a market that displayed time - honored pieces of Bahrain s history. Bahraini-inspired poetry and dances were also performed in tribute to our lovely country. On December 18, 2017, the school took part in the National Day celebration at Khalifa Park. page 6

7 ISC-Manama Newsletter Term 2 Issue Bahrain Awalan Nine students had the opportunity to attend the Bahrain Awalan event as a showcase of our school s appreciation towards our beloved king. They were amazed by the different dances and displays of af-fection towards the king, and they left having a greater sense of patriotism. page 7

8 Reteach Sessions In case one of our students is not able to pass an examination, our academic team of well-trained prefects organizes reteach sessions to make sure that all of these concepts are understood. These reteach lessons prepare students for their retake exams, in which they are re-examined on failed concepts. Orphan s Movie Night We had the pleasure of meeting 50 wonderful orphans in a fun-filled afternoon, where we got to know each other and share good memories. Entertainment in the forms of fun and games filled every corner, ranging all the way from musical chairs to three-legged race and watching the famous Rata-touille movie. The place echoed with joyous laughter by the orphans and prefects alike. To wrap things up, each prefect handed an orphan a present that they handpicked themselves as a display of appreciation that they enlightened our school with their presence. page 8

9 ISC-Manama Newsletter Term 2 Issue Dress Up Like a Character On February 8, 2018, Grade 2-4 students had the chance to come to school dressed up as their favorite characters from the stories they had read throughout the year. It was quite a magical sight to behold and an unforgettable day for the students. page 9

10 Seniors and Juniors Game Night On January 25, the second annual seniors and juniors game night took place. The game night is an event in which seniors and juniors, along with their teachers, get to participate in fun-filled challenging activities and games to create memorable moments with one another. This year, the seniors prepared a series of challenges that allowed the seniors, juniors, and teachers to strengthen their bond and have great memories together. After the games took place, it was time for the karaoke to begin and for the excitement to begin with it. It was truly an unforgettable night page 10

11 ISC-Manama Newsletter Term 2 Issue Arabic Poetry Night On March 8, 2018, ISC-Manama hosted its second Arabic Poetry Night. Our students practiced for many hours to perfectly and confidently recite poems by many Arabic poetry giants like Nizar Qabbani, Elia Abu Madi, and many other poets. More than 50 students were able to steal the hearts of the audience by their emotional reciting. At the end of the night, we had one auditorium full of proud parents and teachers, and a new batch of potential future poets. page 11

13 ISC-Manama Newsletter Term 2 Issue Science Fair & Art Exhibition On March 3, 2018, the auditorium held our annual Sscience Fair & Art Exhibition. KG-Grade 4 students prepared live presentations related to different projects and experiments. Boom! went the chemistry stations, and electricity flowed across the physics ones. The biology stations raised awareness for heart pressure and diabetes and addressed many interesting topics like strawberry DNA. In addition to that, our Robotics family impressed all the visitors with their projects designed to help all the needs of people such as a watering system and a blind stick... etc. Our Art department also decorated the auditorium with the amazing paintings of students that were prepared throughout the year. In addition, they presented their handmade crafts. People got the opportunity to learn some drawing skills from our talented prefects. page 13

16 ISC-Manama 7 th Local Sports Tournament On March 9, 2018, ISC-Manama hosted its seventh annual local sports tournament, in which six other schools participated in a day full of competitiveness and excitement. Athletes competed across many events including: Football, Basketball, Swimming, and Athletics. The day also began with a spectacular opening ceremony headlined by a magnificent display of gymnastics and then athletes started their competitions. These athletes have trained for years preparing for this tournament, to show their skills on the field of play. Each athlete performed incredibly well, and made their schools and peers extremely proud to be a part of the experience. At the end of a very action packed event, the winners rejoiced in our closing ceremony to receive their medals and celebrate their arduous work. We are incredibly honored and grateful to be able to say that this year s local tournament was a success. We would also like to thank all the participating schools for the level of sportsmanship and for allowing us to make this the most successful local tournament to date. page 16

18 School Concerts School concerts are held annually from KG 2 - Grade 4. This year, the theme was Our Beautiful World and usual parents were invited to come and watch their children joyfully sing and enjoy themselves. Around 1,000 students performed in 6 concerts songs in 3 different languages, and it really was remarkable. KG1 KG2 page 18

22 International Day On Thursday, February 15, 2018, the International School of Choueifat Manama held its International Day celebration. This event took place on the school s premises and it was an opportunity for students, teachers, and parents to celebrate and explore the culture of 22 countries around the world. The International Day event is a much-anticipated event in the school calendar. It allows students, parents, and staff the opportunity to celebrate different cultures. On display were several student-led stalls depicting the culture of the various countries, highlighting their food, custom and tradition. Aside cultural displays, there were traditional dances of some countries that also took place. International Day is one of numerous events that are held by the SABIS Student Life Organization. It is an occasion to have fun while strengthening the academic connections to students knowledge, background experiences, and ways of viewing the world. page 22

23 ISC-Manama Newsletter Term 2 Issue International Arabic Day Continuing the yearly celebration, December 20, 2017, marked International Arabic day. Parents, teachers, and students were invited to join us in witnessing students present a combination of poetry and other events that allowed all to journey through the splendor of our language. After weeks of preparation, students in grades 5-12 proudly presented individually and as a group their own pieces of assigned Arabic poetry, writings, and group presentations, all of which were exquisitely sensational. It was sincerely an incredible day that truly captured the enriched Arabic language and allowed everyone to experience the grand voyage of our Arabic culture and heritage. page 23

25 ISC-Manama Newsletter Term 2 Issue Bahrain National Sports Day On February 14, 2018, ISC-Manama joined the nation in celebrating Bahrain Sports Day. The Sports Department worked hard to prepare a lot of fun activities that introduced the students to the importance of sports and its benefits to human health. All students and teachers participated in a series of sports games including: tug of war, three legged race, and football. These games were chosen to illustrate how exercise can maintain good health and still be fun. page 25

26 Prefects Class Prefects Every class has an appointed prefect, which oversee many aspects of their class. Class prefects maintain high standards, discipline, neatness, and assist teachers. They are considered as co-teachers in the classroom for their teachers. The responsibilities that rest on the shoulders of these students help them gain experience and teach them problemsolving skills. They are able to encourage and motivate fellow students. They are cooperative, helpful, well-mannered, trustworthy, and responsible. They are respectful toward teachers, their peers, and the school environment. They display leadership qualities: confidence, initiative, and problem-solving skills. These students uphold the highest standards at all times including uniform adherence to school rules, effort, attendance, punctuality, respect, manners, motivation, and most importantly a positive attitude. Without these overachieving individuals classes would be completely divergent. Newsletter Prefects Our newsletter is carefully prepared by our newsletter prefects. Selections of dedicated students write an account of the event at hand, marking its date, participants, and the major highlights. The articles are accompanied by photos, also taken and sorted by our prefects, to illustrate the components of the article. All this careful hard-work resulted in a perfect newsletter by the students, for the students. page 26

27 ISC-Manama Newsletter Term 2 Issue University Visits Choosing a university is a crucial part of graduating high school. Many elite universities set up stands at our school s auditorium to inform the students what they had to offer. This was an exclusive event as only the students in grades 11 and 12 were present. The students came prepared with their own questions and a general idea of what they are looking for, yet they still kept an open mind and visited each stand. One of the most asked questions was about the treatment given to international students not just in the school, but also in the city. The prospectuses mainly focused on the advantages the students attending their university would have in the real world after graduating. The representatives made sure that they didn t burden the students with too much information that would leave them confused. page 27
