We are a co-educational primary school which opened in , is a very special year as we celebrate our centenary years of quality learning and teaching. Our current enrolment is 626 Prep - Year 6 students. Our school has four streams of Prep, Years 1, 2 and 4; three streams of Year 3; and two streams of Years 5 and 6. We have 23 classroom teachers, specialist teachers, numerous school officers (teacher aides) and support staff. Sts Peter & Paul's School has significantly changed over the years with new buildings and facilities being provided for the students. These projects are part of a long-term strategy to meet enrolment demand as we grow and upgrade to a four stream school of Prep - Year 4 and three streams of Year 5-6. Sts Peter & Paul's School has a strong partnership with the Parish community and is recognised for proudly offering a quality inclusive Catholic Education. As the school has grown and changed it has continued to build on the traditions established by the Sisters of the Good Samaritan. The Sisters spirit of compassion and justice flows through the total school community and is further strengthened by the traditions established by the parents, staff and children over the past one hundred years. The school motto is "Learning Together For Life" where each student is valued, respected and supported in the learning and teaching process. 2 Characteristics of the student body The students at Sts Peter & Paul's School are from families who live in and around the Bulimba area and represent a range of social and economic backgrounds. Students, with their families and teachers, are encouraged to look beyond their own cultural reality and to develop an understanding of the lives of people in other communities. Students with any significant ESL background is very low. Students with a disability represent less than 5% of the student population. Our students are very well supported and are given many opportunities to support their learning. They are actively involved in the local and wider community, participating in many extra curricular activities. We are a Catholic School with a student population of over 90% Catholics, with families actively engaged in the life of the Parish. Sts Peter & Paul's School is more than an educational facility, it is a place where community spirit is strong and a shared vision for giving our students a balanced education based on Gospel values is evident on a daily basis. Social climate The Parents and Friends; and School Board members work tirelessly to build a strong Catholic community which assists the staff to nurture the students in a faith community. Our very generous and loyal Parents and Friends Association support the school in a host of different ways, including: helping to run two school drop off and pick up zones; organising and running a very successful major fundraiser (Centenary Fete) in order to further resource the school; the Care and Concern Committee assists the local St Vincent de Paul Chapter and school families in need; the Health and Wellbeing Committee organises a variety of initiatives e.g. parent information evenings. Parents are welcomed into the school to join children's prayer celebrations and school assemblies. They spend time helping in the tuckshop, library and classrooms. They act as class co-ordinators and provide excursion; carnival and sport support. Opportunities are provided for parents to deepen their knowledge and understanding of current educational practices and policies. A Student Behaviour Support Plan has been developed. It ensures and supports a proactive rather than reactive approach to bullying. Curriculum - our distinctive offerings 2016 at Sts Peter & Paul's School sees the Australian Curriculum being implemented in all subject areas with the support of a Primary Learning Leader working closely with all classroom teachers. A Mathematics Support Teacher is employed for 2 days per week. A full time Teacher Librarian is also employed. We are proud of the holistic education being offered, which is inclusive of specialist teachers in the following areas: LOTE (Japanese for Years 3-6); Music; Instrumental Music (Piano, Strings, Woodwind, Brass, Guitar, Percussion); Senior and Junior Choirs; Speech and Drama; Physical Education and a Perceptual Motor Program for our Prep students. Information, Communication and Learning Technology is embedded in all subject areas. An IT Support Teacher is employed for 2 days per week as well as an IT School Officer. Enrichment programs under the guidance of our Enrichment Teacher are offered including classes for gifted students. Early Literacy Fundamentals; Support-a-Talker; Support-a- Reader; and Multi-Lit programs support the School's Literacy Plan. Year 5 students enjoy an annual 3 day outdoor education program and Year 6 students experience one week away exploring Canberra and Sydney. Our Year 6 students experience on-going leadership opportunities throughout the year. The Inclusion Program together with our Early Intervention Program provides for students with special needs. Modern air-conditioned classrooms enhance the learning opportunities for the students. A balanced curriculum is delivered by professional, enthusiastic teachers who are well supported by a very active parent body. ANNUAL SCHOOL REPORT

3 Curriculum - our extra curricula activities We have an excellent PE and Sport program at Sts Peter & Paul's School including: Swimming, Cross Country, Athletics, European Handball, Netball, Basketball, Tennis, Volleyball, Soccer, Aussie Rules, Rugby League and Touch Football. Years 4-6 students participate in inter-school sport. Fit Club is a popular and highly organised before school activity promoting fitness levels for students preparing for Cross Country and Athletics events. A whole school Buddy Program is a highlight for students as they engage in activities which foster learning, friendship and enjoyment. We offer Science Club, Chess Club, Instrumental Music, Go Sports, Auskick, Tennis and Basketball which are all co-curricular activities happening outside of the school day but on the school premises. Parent, student and teacher satisfaction Responses regarding this area are often gained formally from surveys forwarded to parents as part of our internal review processes; and informally from a personal approach to parents and those within the wider community. Sts Peter and Paul's School has an extremely active and involved parent body. This is particularly evident during the course of any given day with the involvement of parents across a range of activities throughout the school day. Preparation of our annual fundraising event is always a priority providing much needed ongoing funds to continue to improve resources and ultimately learning and teaching. There are strong links between the Parish and School community; little turnover of our highly regarded staff; a designated leadership program for our Year 6 students; very active Parents and Friends Association; committed School Board; extensive Care and Concern Committee activities (Parent and Year 6 Committee); Health and Wellbeing Committee activities; and particularly large numbers of enrolment applications. Therefore, it is reasonable to assert that student, staff and parent/caregiver satisfaction with Sts Peter & Paul's School is of a very high standard. Parent engagement At the beginning of the school year all parents are invited to an information evening with their child's teacher. Parent Teacher interviews are on-going throughout the year at the request of either the teacher or parent. Class co-ordinators assist teachers with classroom initiatives, welcoming new families, social interactions, environmental audits and other activities connected with the curriculum. Staff organise meetings and/or information sessions for parents regarding camps, excursions and other activities that support the curriculum. The parents generously help throughout the year with a variety of programs including: Prep Fine and Gross Motor Skills Program; Sport and Physical Education; Visual Art; Reading; various Subject Rotations; Library Support; Tuckshop; undertaking joint home/school projects and assignments; and organising activities for students to participate in e.g. the Centenary Justice in Motion Project which raised funds to assist build a classroom at the SGS Early Childhood Centre in Kiribati. This was a combined project with the Parish. As a school we value open dialogue with our families and we strive to develop and maintain healthy relationships among and between staff, students and their families. ANNUAL SCHOOL REPORT

4 SCHOOL ACHIEVEMENTS Achievements - progress towards goals RELIGIOUS IDENTITY AND CULTURE - Embedded our cohesive and integrated approach to nurturing and promoting the prayer life of the school, the faith formation of students and continued participation with the Parish community. PEDAGOGICAL PRACTICE - Enhanced pedagogical practice that is evidence-based and data-informed. Continued progress in literacy and numeracy standards. WORK CULTURE - A strong culture is evident of positive, respectful relationships and collaboration amongst staff, parents, caregivers and students. FINANCE AND FACILITIES - Stewardship directed the allocation of school resources. Contemporary learning approaches informed the planning, design and use of facilities including the commencement of a major building program to cater for the enrolment demand. Future outlook STRONG CATHOLIC IDENTITY - Strengthen capacity to lead, engage and teach with a re-contextualised Catholic world-view. EXCELLENT LEARNING AND TEACHING - Grow engagement, progress, achievement and wellbeing for each student. By the end of 2017, through a school wide consistent approach to planning and teaching using the expected and effective practices, the use of data analysis, review and response cycles, and learning walks and talks, 75% of our students in Prep to Year 2 will have reached and exceeded BCE target benchmarks in PM reading and all of our students in Years 3 6 will score a 2 or above in the writing criteria of sentence structure and punctuation. An explanatory /note is required when a student is absent from school for a lengthy period of time e.g. a family or overseas holiday. The /note should be sent before the absence. Students arriving late to school must be signed in at the school office and a late notice given to their teacher. A student leaving early is required to be signed out at the school office. An /note is also required if a student is arriving late/leaving early on a regular basis e.g. allied health appointment. Parents/caregivers are contacted if we have not had notification of their absence. Teachers mark the role at the beginning and end of each school day.
